  • That duke! 'Oh be still my beating heart!'

  • oh my god its UMBRIDGE!!!!!

  • @TheUkedude90 omg it is!!!!

  • I have been obsessed with this film since I got the part of Viola in a show of Twelfth Night, I can't stop watching it! Can't wait to play Viola, although no one will ever beat Imogen Stubbs!!!

  • Toby Stephens looks very much like Ethan Hawke.

  • Must...work...must...not....get...distrac....

    ♥Toby♥

    *sigh* ^_^

To whatever English professor who put that gorgeous Toby Twelth Night poster up, this is all your fault ;)

  • Socking your boss in the jaw is not the best way to keep your job.......

  • oh my god, was that Umbridge!?

  • @ParanoidPopsticle Yes it is...you are not just being paranoid.

  • Love Toby Stephens. He was fantastic in Jane Eyre as Rochester and he's brilliant in this. Had no idea he was the great Maggie Smith's son until I looked it up though.

  • Toby Stephen was great in Jane Eyre 2006

  • Toby makes for a pretty awful wingman doesn't he?

  • the actor that plays duke orsino does does anybody know what other movies he has been in

  • @charmed22001us His name is Toby Stephens. Look him up on imdb. I would provide a link, but youtube's weird like that and won't let me.

  • @charmed22001us He was in the BBC adap of Jane Eyre. :)

  • Is it just me or are there some parts/angles where Viola/Cesario looks a lot like a short haired Avril Lavigne...?

  • Toby was around 25 when this was filmed. He did a remarkable Coriolanus on stage before this when he was 24 and received the Olivier and Ian Charleson awards for it. So he is the right age for the part, and in fact the women are a little old for their roles. Anyway, it's difficult for very young actors to understand and perform Shakespeare well. Saying your lines as earnestly as possible is the usual default for novices (see Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love, the guy doing Juliet was better.)

  • Oh spirit of love, how quick and fresh art thou that, notwithstanding thy capacity, recieveth as the sea, naught enters there. Of what validity and pitch so'er but falls into abatement and low price, even in a minute. So full of shapes is fancy that it is alone high fantastical!

  • Ahh, I did this play in my Drama class. I was Feste. We made it like it was the 1950's but the same language. It was so much fun. Feste is honestly my favourite character. <3

  • English class brought me here..:)

  • 0:12 UUUGGGGGGGHRHHRRRHOASDADFAWGIFAIFGUAWIUFWA

  • does anyone know the name of this piano piece at 1:17?

  • why is Orsino's arm in a sling?

  • Orsino is just like, "No biggie, just ~wrestling with my male friends. Heterosexual as fuck."

  • Interesting that he has all of these men being forced to listen to his pinning, juust because he's the Count. Poor guys. / Did you all notice the Count looking at Cesario's breasts when he comes looking for, "him?" He puts his arm around, "him" and looks down. I wonder if that was planned or if Orsino accidently did that? Whatever, they left it in. / At first I liked Toby. The black sheep of the family and the only fun one but when he states to use Sir Andrew . . .no. The kid respects him.

  • @Songsmirth

Of topics, but I can afford it :D

I have never before memorized their names. I even believe they are different in the Swedish translations I have seen. Therefore my first thought when reading your comment was:

Has Toby Stephens offended someone Sir Andrew? Which one? And is that one in any way involved in this adaption?

  • OMG. It's Sir Humphrey meets Prof Umbridge uttering some of the most remarkable works ever written in the English language.

  • Who else is reminded of Tamaki?

  • @LadyLuria What is that? Will have to look it up. :) Strain my brain for the day. lol Songs

  • @Songsmirth

It's an anime thing. Tamaki Suoh is a character in the anime Ouran High School Host Club. He and Orsino are very similiar, as are Viola and Haruhi, now I think on it.

  • i had to watch this story for my class so far it is a good story. Its has twist & turns in it and you never knew what would happen next*

  • she still looks like a woman though

  • Orsino's so dramatic! hehe :)

  • My school is doing a play on 12th Night! Im Orsino lol, im watching this to get an idea for what im supposed to act like! This is going to be fun!!!

  • Orsino looks so old...like in his late thirtieth.... he should be a youth, according to the original story

  • @dawncoming I think Toby Stephens was about 27 when they filmed this. Not that old, but by Shakespeare's standards, probably so, given that Juliet was about 13 or something in R&J!

  • did anyone else notice that they used the same actor for the girl once she "became" a boy as her brother?

  • @combatarmsman101

its supposed to be that way...

  • toby is an awesome actor!!!!

  • Hehe love how flirty the Duke/count/delectable Toby Stephens already is with Cesario/Viola

  • I can't take a Bond villain talking about love seriously

  • Anyone know where to find the music from this movie?

  • playing orsino in our school play! like a boss!

  • Comment removed

  • I adore the way Viola tries to make gruffy man-voice sounds after Orsino mentions how high-pitched her voice is XD

  • You know...I never recognized Toby...

Someone told me the actor playing Rochester was the same as the one playing Orsino.

If it weren't for the credits, I would have thought otherwise.

  • I spit up half my food when I saw "umbridge" lol... <3 Twelfth Night

  • AHHH ITS UMBRIDGE RUN

  • What is that piano piece?

  • Viola is SOOOOOOO much HOTTER as a boy!!!

AND YES SHE HAS LOVELY EYES

  • this saves my exam's life. tytytytyty!

  • I'm not quite sure about the setting, I just prefer having a film adaption of a play by Shakespeare to by set in the original period which is, how should I put it, an Elizabethan setting. Still, I think that this is interesting.

  • If you really look at Viola.. it's the eyes that give it away, and the way she holds herself. The eyes make her look like a girl.. theyre pretty eyes... not masculine but girlish and shy, :)

  • Wow that looks like a guy... she did a good job.. :)

  • Orsino looks a bit like Ethan Hawke.

  • In our production of this I am Sir Andrew Aguecheek (Who I think is an amazing part to have!) and our director thinks it would be good if I spoke with a lisp which I though was awful but it turns out to actulay suits the character so well! It gives him such that really thick sort of person which Sir Andrew is!

  • @Andrewslikeme That DOES fit well...break a leg!

  • she looks convincincing but soooooooooo ugly

  • oh look, it's delores umbridge!! hahaha

  • @dory423

My Gosh, you're right! I knew I'd seen her somewhere!

  • @dory423 hes a lazy ass... lolz no but i thought that too. :)

  • why is orsino always just lying around???

  • i am antonio in school

  • i am antonio in school

  • Gotta love Richard E. Grant. When I saw that he was going to be the Scarlet Pimpernel I thought WHAT?? But he's such a dunce!! He's Sir Andrew Aguecheek!! As IF he could play someone like that!

How wrong was I lol, he was charming and dashing and makes the perfect Sir Percy =D

    Such versitility with his acting.

  • what is the piano piece called at 1:35?

  • Oh lawd now he's dancing!

  • A blonde richard E grant! tis frightening!

  • If you love Shakespeare, you have to check out Sir Ian McKellan's Acting Shakespeare. It has been released in DVD!!! I <3 him.

  • Why did that child have a mustache? He looks ten!

  • she looks close enough to a guy, but could sure act more like one!!!! lol.

  • Oh what I would do to get Orsino alone somewhere. What a hottie....

  • awww sir andrew aguecheek is kind of naively cute

  • @paaranpi i think so too!!

  • Orsino is supposed to be old ... wtf he looks like 16 in this

  • I absoulutely love no adore how Olivia loves cesario who's actually Viola, and Viola loves Count Orsino and Orsino's in love with Oliva who won't return his affection's while Sir Toby's in love with Marie who's in love with Toby and it's all WHEW! exauhsting!~

  • SHAKESPEARE U ROK!!! XD

  • Haha, the poor guys in that court...they look so bored! Orsino's a bit of an idiot, in my opinion...does little but lounge around sighing. Not really sure why Viola falls for him.

    Viola doesn't look quite--manlike--from behind. :^)

  • @gertrudewhite Viola falls for him because of the way she gets to see him love Olivia! Obviously :)

  • @420yeehaw You're right, of course. He definitely gets more appealing as the movie goes on. :^)

  • @gertrudewhite Yeah.. I think she likes how passionate he is.. hehe.. i would too

  • does she really cut her hair? I am gonna play that part! Vilola i mean! YEAH!

  • ..whoa..she makes a pretty handsome dude..

  • The British outdo themselves again in classic film!

  • Orsino's a tool

  • does anyone know what part you see the bicycle at ?

  • Two Potter actors? Really?

  • Comment removed

  • i am doing research on this play :)

  • LOL! 5:02-5:06 is so FUNNY!

  • all the moustache action = awesome

  • And Helena Bonham Carter (Olivia) is the wife and the muse of Tim Burton, she almost appears in all his movies. Ben Kingsley (Feste) is an Oscar winner, so english actors seem to be very talented isn't it?

  • Ok, Sebastian is Tanis from Underworld, and Sir Anddrew is Dracula from Van Helsing? There are only so many English actors or something?

  • He isnt dracula. Hes from... uh... Little Vampire as the father? Cant remember his name.

  • Richard E Grant :)

  • @lollipopfop Sir Andrew isnt Dracula, but he is The Scarlet Pimpernel. Dracula in Van Helsing (the Hugh Jackman version) is Richard Roxburgh, also an Aussie actor (he played the Duke in Moulin Rouge too btw)

  • Im doing this play and I play Olivia.

  • then why are you watching it?

  • gay ass comment

  • were just starting this play xD I get to play Antonio

  • ok at 1:37, did they run out of older actors and slap a mustache on a fourteen year old?

  • omg i noticed that when we watched it in class!! i was like does everyone need a mustache?!

  • Sure looks like it...

  • lol!!!!

  • Hah, we're doing 'Twelfth Night' right now and I'm playing Viola...and I'm very insistent on my personal space, so when I saw this for the first time, I smiled. (:

  • LOL the Duke is so pathetic and dramatic I love him!! "If music be the food of love, play on. Give me excess of it."

  • Sir Toby isnt Hagrid. Its Robbie something, but the rest are right.

  • Comment removed

  • @ACH95UK Sir Toby is Mel Smith. Creator of Space Balls and all round comedian

  • @Flipitiflop my bad, space balls was Mel Brooks ;-p

  • The maid Mary is Delores Umbrige in Harry Potter, Olivia is Bellatrix Lestrange, and I think sir Toby might have been Rubius Hagrid in HP as well... good actors!

  • you realize that every single Brithish actor or actress is in the Harry Potter series...Helena says it's a "retirement home for British actors" So you're bound to see these guys all working together several times in their careers...it's cool to see these guys and recongnize them 10 years younger

  • i was looking at the character's in this play the other day and i realised that 'she's the man' - (amanda bynes) is based on this...

  • does the guy that plays sir toby play hagrid in harry potter? he sounds like him.

  • Comment removed

  • Hagris? Hagis?

    I hope you're joking :L

Yes, if it's Robbie Coltrane, it's Hagrid.

  • why do i know orcino? wt has he been in??

  • if you mean the actor toby stephens he was in Die another day (Gustav Greves or sth)

if you mean the character, watch She's the man (movie based on this play)

  • Fantastic version! lus the shot of St.Michels mount in the credits is making me very proud to live right there all over again! really sorry though, i've accidently hit the mouse pad to rate it 2 stars, it's better than that and im sorry!

  • "and make them cry out OLLLIIIIVVVIIIIAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    LMAO!

  • shakespeare was a true genius

  • I love this video!Superb acting performances, and B. Kingsley sensational in the role of Feste.N.Hawthorne-Malvolio, invariably amuses me to tears:)

  • Oh my! Its Toby Stephens:-)

  • ok does anyone else think the guy at 0:58 looks like hodgens from Bones

  • I loooovvvee Toby Stephens!

  • Sir Andrew's dancing is made of fail XD.

  • 3:43

    lol, nice.

  • we are playing this this weekend and im playing sir andrew agucheek

  • so why is she dressing like a boy?

  • She wants to go and work for the duke, who will let no woman near him. She has no where else to go, and is alone in the world.

  • She really looks like a guy. Most of the time when the girl dresses up like this you can tell but she looks convinsing.

  • @DarkAngel7717 yeah. No wonder she's a Shakespearean Star on the theatrical stage.

  • I did this play for my fifth grade drama club and i was Duke Orsino

  • Toby Stephens is so cute in this movie.

  • Ah! This is the version I watched in my high school Shakespeare class! My class adored thsi play.
