she was the topmost mezzo-soprano coloratura after Pauline Viardot and Maria Malibran. And one needs not compare her with Bartoli to see that Cecilia is over trying to sing like a coloratura.
One of the greatest Rossini interpreters, if not the greatest. Such a lovely, flexible, fresh voice, such joie de vivre... and the vibrato may not be to everyone's taste but it fits here somehow. I love her.
Charm, fantasy, taste, and a strong technique to support all that artistry....And, an artist creating/re-creating a character, a believable one.... I don't get the feeling that she is pleasing herself with this interpretation, but the music, and the character.
The vibrato which affects people here, stupidly, I must say, is given to this period, and doesn't bother the artistry with which the aria is delivered.
*PERFECTION*!!!!!! Her voice and her technique encapsulate the word *BEAUTY* and epitomise the word *FLAWLESS*!!!!!!!!! A humanoid nightingale. I cannot even begin to do her artistry justice in words!!!!
One of the Top Three renditions of this Aria - and arguably RIGHT AT THE TOP, in terms of authenticity and fidelity to the composer's intentions. Listening to most 20th and 21st century "divas" sing this after hearing Supervia is like smelling manure after smelling the last rose of summer.
"This aria is not for her"? What?! She was the greatest Cenerentola of her generation, packed houses all over Europe. she was a true Rossini singer - big range, warm tone, even throughout. Very rare. She makes Bartoli sound like a chicken about to lay an egg. Thank you for posting this!

The lower half of her range is the same size as the top.
She sings with an authentic sound in her lower voice unlike anyone else in the 20th Century.
It is this equal weight throughout the range that makes her so authentically 19th Century.

Mezzo or soprano, Callas or Supervia, please advise.
They are both extraordinary. Did they transpose?

No one knows how to sing today, because the vocal tone is hooty, throaty
and totally without resonance since everything is being performed on the HARMONICS rather than the Fundamental Tone

Explain it properly, fucker.

There is no need to resort to profanity when discussing Classical Music which reflects the finest contributions by mankind to the Arts.

why she's died so young??? it's absolutely unique!
petrof4056 3 years ago 3
She was in Paris where she gave birth to a stillborn baby and she died few hours later.
What a sad story. Today the big stars just schedule a cesarian and there you go.

Why do I think that some of the 19th century divas sang with this much character instead of the boring perfection we often hear on modern recordings?

Because it's true, that's why! :)
