im proud to say i grew up in this town, its small and we dont have much here, but its a great town to grow up in... i wouldnt trade it for anything in the world, the bank has always been part of mine and my family's life, and i hope that it is goin to be here for many years to come..
That's pretty quaint and kind of cool. If the computer banking systems go down in America because of a terrorist attack or a EMP surge, these guys will be able to serve their customers. But sadly, this will probably die out after the owner dies and the two ladies retire.
It's nice to see that Mr. Wiley is still around. Oakwood is actually my home town! My grandfather was the pastor of one of the few churches in Oakwood, just two blocks away from Oakwood State Bank. Mr. Wiley still puts up his Christmas display every year. If you have time, search for Oakwood Texas on YouTube and you'll likely find the video of it.
What happens when their customer base is dead? I bet their average is customer is 55+ years old. Gen X/Yers aren't going to open up an account at a place like this.
If this old man was smart, he'd sell the bank to some hot shot finance whiz kid from Texas A&M who is willing to expand it and bring it into the 21st century.
Its a grate story and I respect them staying the the way. i bet alot of people was trying to make them elvove. The end was real sad I tierd up. will there kids keep it the same or sale it. If i may ask can you do a 2ed film
about what will happen to the bank and the lives that run it.Maybe a musum can help persurve it for years to come?
I heard on the news this bank recently got robbed by four men wearing dusty cowboy outfits and carrying six shooters. That were last seen escaping down main street on horses.
It's nice to know that there are still places like Oakwood Bank, and people like Roddy. It's also nice to know that people aren't just numbers, too. "We just kind of like it that way." Me too. Nice job reporting, Bob.
WOw. 600 accounts?? Thats more than I thought they would have... I guess its nice in a way but you have to consider human error and ultimately computers are necessary!
Roddy Wiley died on 6 August 2010 , aged 86 .

Thanks for the wonderful hometown story. I grew up in a small town too. The poor old guy has nothing else to live for. I admire people like that.
Simply said.
