WOW! I've never seen anything that close before! If that train would have hit that SUV, at the speed it was going AND considering how long it was, it would have taken a LONG time to stop, even with the emergency brake. If I knew who that person in the SUV was, I would be reporting them to the police if they do this at other railroad crossings.

This train was about a mile long (about 75 cars) but would not really be considered to be a long train in the US. I have a number of videos here of trains that a twice as long as this one. As for stopping you might be surprised at how quickly they can stop. Not like an auto but in less time than you think.

I've been in the engineers' seat and had my fair share of close calls. Plus, I've had a collision with a car while running a train, and the Police Officer didn't issue any citations to the motorist. My train could have killed her, but the woman put on that "sob" story about never having been involved in any accidents or getting any tickets. However, she did admit to not seeing or hearing the train I was operating.
