  • I was 1RGJ 89-93 Osnabruck, Armagh, I love the regiment and its history and it has a big history.

  • 3rd BN Royal Green Jackets from 1986-1992 RIP

  • my father was a RGJ and i been looking around the internet to find out any history about them, but there is nothing really in detail, anyone know someone i can get in contact with?

  • can anybone help I am looking for MICK TRACY ex R.G.J pre-1983 after which he became a mess maanger in york bks Munster

    Eyes front

  • I dont like the idea of amalagamation.

  • well sadly we have to get used to it as its been 3 years now since the amalgamation. But once a Jacket always a Jacket.

  • i was brought up in RGJ minden , warminster, dover ,omagh they were my life x

  • rifles rock... my hubby is out with 5 th rifles in iraq at the moment..x

  • Its a big shame they messed with the Reg. As for the old ways gone??? not sure about that, from what I see a lot of the Jackets are hanging on to the old ways. Many wearing RGJ pin's somewhere on their uniform in defiance of the change and as the saying goes..... once a Jacket always a Jacket. Hang on to the old ways & show the rest of them how its done I reckon, Jackets are known for not letting the shit get em down & keep the old ways alive . Swift & Bold

  • true just a shame the government fucked us off the jacket ways are dead now unfortuneatly.

  • im an ex green jacket and it is good to see the young lads keeping the regimental pride going

  • My Dad was 1RGJ 22 yrs, My lad is 1RGJ now 2 Rifles who are based in Ballykinler. The home of RGJ is Winchester and I believe 1 Rifles are made up from RGBW and D&D, though there may be a few Jackets but not sure on that bit.

4 Rifles are based in Bulford and were 2nd Bat RGJ, unsure of the rest at the mo. Sorry.

All the best with your training.

  • Meh, the sign must be old, and they're too lazy to remove it, whether or not its still there, it was about 5months ago i went there.

And thanks :) - i cant really say im looking forward to 6months in catterick, it's nice and cold up there :(

  • MOST ACTIVE FIGHTING INFANTRY ANYWHERE!

    Hope thats still the case?

  • "In terms of the capability of the Battalion, the operational experience is just phenomenal," the vast experience and confidence they have gained having been on operations every year since 1999.

Copied from the MOD News. :-)

  • Celsojac! how old r u? probably about 18? and you have no idea about life experiences, this is the 21st century, and sadly my loved one, and many others r out there fighting for your freedom! get a grip and understand! I wish it wasn't happening, but it is, and the public need to know they r doing it for them! so you can live in a free world!!

  • hello celsojac! this is what life is like for our lads and lasses in the forces, they r there to do a job, for YOU, and all of Joe Public! not nice I know, but you need to get a grip and understand! question....how old r u?? sadly this is life in the 21st century! it shouldn't be happening, but it is! and the general public should be supporting the troops!

  • Hey celsojac! get a grip and understand what life is about in the 21st century! these lads and lasses r fighting and protecting us! sad I know, it shouldn't be happening, but they r there for us!! oh and BTW for you as well!

  • they are clapping to people who are ready to kill other human beings!!! Estan dispuestos a matar a otros seres humanos!!

Good luck mate. best regiment in the unimaverse.

  • Good luck with your your training and your right they are the best Reg(that is Royal Green jackets of course) just a damn shame they took away their identity and amalgamated them into the Rifles. But once a Jacket always a Jacket :-)

  • hehe ta, and true, when i went to the AFCO the guy asked "what regiment would u want to join" and i was like, ooh, ill join rgj, and hes like thers no such thing as the rgj anymore and i was like "yeh..thats what u think ;]" ...i said like too much then.

  • Where you going to start training? Catterick?

  • hopefully, went once for a day when i went on a look at life with 3Rifles, saw a passing out parade, was cool hehe.

  • wishing you all the best in your training. Our son is in the rifles and are very proud of him and not to mention his brother that is in the Artillery .

  • Our lads in the same reg I think. 2 Rifles prev 1RGJ.

All the best to you & your lads.xx

  • My family were in the Guards, so I don't know an awful lot about the other regiments sadly. I don't know all the facts in regard to the amalgamation of various regiments. Have the Royal Green jackets essentially been converted into a battalion within The Rifles and are still able to hold onto their identities as a regiment, with regard to ceremony and tradition and their place within the force?

  • so wish i was there, wud of been if i didnt get bullied. but the lads who bullied me got punished. i wud of been in this passing out parade. i am in the process of going back, the army is my life. loved every minute of it.

  • Where was this shot at , Weeton barracks ??

  • Yep sure was.

  • I was at this parade, proudly supporting my Nephew. It was an honour to see ALL the soldiers and their families

  • Nice to see you all...
