  • lol squeaker at 1:30

  • Whoever is saying they are playing this in middle school should realize that there are several vs, which is why, yes IT IS HARD

  • Ahg, playing this on trumpet is insane. But I was pretty siked about getting the solo! :D It's so pretty.

  • my middle school is playing this for our uil this year.. it's really not that hard

  • @erniegurl07 you must play the triangle then, cause if you actually know how to play this songs right and fast it is hard.

  • @MLGxElement i play alto saxophone

  • just got sheet music for this today i play snare looking ford to the snare solo at 5:00 and 5:50(play with confidence no matter what just make it sound reasonable) love this piece

  • @clarence569

dude this is the sight reading piece for this honor orchestra T.T im going to fail

  • were playing this in middle school

  • good tone at the trumpet solo but it need to flow and not be choppy

  • We are playing this in band. I don't know what 7th grade ia but I am from the uk. I am 13?

  • Clarinets are the best

  • Good

  • beast ass trumpets

  • I played this in high school senior year and had the kick ass trumpet solo.

  • haha I play this and im a 7th grader in a 8th grade band :D!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW Bassoon players ROCK!!!

  • @slickplaya323 dj is that you

  • @knight10666 no????

  • @slickplaya323 in an 8th grade band? crap, we play this in highschool...that means ur band is good?

  • @marchingeaglesfreak im in high school and im playing it sooo eather both our hs schools are a little behind or that middle school is beast

  • @TheMusicman200 i doubt it because our band director said its usually played by my school's top band (im in the 2nd top band) and it is a really difficult piece to play...i think that middle school is probably really good

  • @slickplaya323 I am in high school band and I am in 7th :D

  • haha I play this and im a 7th grader in a 8th grade band :D!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Performing this song at Carnegie Hall next week. I'm so freaking stoked.

  • Come on flutes! INTONATION !

  • Ha Flute to early at 4:22 :p

  • playing this song with only 2 other percussionists lmao

  • Anyone have any tips for someone who can barely play the snare and is assigned the snare part. I am honestly afraid of the snare, i barely played it in middle school or high school and now i have to play. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I play Trumpet on the Vivace...Jesus Christ

  • Ii remember playing this song in 7th grade

  • omg the snare drum in the end is sooooo off not even right

  • I wish my band director didn't suck at conducting my freshman year. We were severely out of tune (cuz he didn't know how to tune us properly) and it just ended badly. We would've rocked at that song if we had a decent conductor who knew what he was doing, but now we do, and I wish we could do this song one more time.

  • Overall pretty good..

but I'm disappointed in the woodblock player at the Con Islancio :O

  • @xMissMichael Just at Con Islancio? The woodblock was off almost the whole time.

  • Playing this on xylophone/vibes =w=

  • @irkenzimxoxo

    Me too, it sucks D:

  • @irkenzimxoxo me too

  • 2:05 is Kim Jong-il's entrance.

  • im playing this. im a bass clarinet!! oh and im a freshman

  • @CartoonMan789 yey good job! I hope you have fun.

  • @franklinilan yea it was hard at first cause i never really played high notes on the bass clarinet. but my teacher said that i could play it an octave lower and it made it a whole lot easier!

  • I'm playing this as an eigth grader....

  • @7731Matthew

    7th grader

  • i am playing this on the first/second flute part very high!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @oceangal5 Yeah, i feel you. Im playing the on first clarinet and maybe even oboe.

  • @IskoFTW scary there are notes in it that i have never seen before

  • Lol our music teacher is in this. Hehehehehe.

  • We're playing this in my band class.

I had to play the oboe solo for the first time today :P.

  • im playing this my freshman year right now :)

  • @ichigo01010 hehehe strawberry...

  • I played this piece in 1991 in highschool my sophmore year and it was hard.

  • I like this song so much it relaxes me thumbs up if you agree with me:)

  • I have to play flute and oboe for this piece.

The half notes and tied notes on flute are so hard to count.

And I just started playing oboe yesterday and I have to learn the solo.

    EEK. Wish me luck.

  • @ohyeahjessalicious wtf good luck LOL

  • My band is doing this song on our California spring tour. We have only played through it once. Its obviously our most challenging peice.

  • i had the oboe solo in my band, and i'm sure you'll do fine lin4200 =D

  • oh god i have the oboe solo and im never going to pull it off D:

  • i played this two days ago in concert

  • I absolutely love the oboe solo....probably my favorite part of the entire piece.

  • 2:13 PLAY THAT BASS CLARINET!!!

  • @karatekween33 yesss

  • were playing dis song in our orchestra this year

  • i played this is middel school! it was so hard for us ha we worked on it forever and it actually sounded pretty good

  • im playing this too! i suck thoo.. lol

  • tuning? ouch

  • Epic song...

  • We're playing this. And I get to play my first real solo :)

  • intonation kinda sucks

  • @pollin36 Among other things.

  • 1:32 :D

  • I played this in high school! We made 'all ones' that year!

  • is there a marching version of this on youtube? my high school band is playing it for our drum break this year and id like to see another band performing it

  • This song was a challenge for me! We had to learn it in a week for Band Camp. ((Lawls!))

After playing it over again I kinda got tired of it. :)

But it was awesome when we played it for the concert!

  • hehe, This song was so fun to play with my highschool band. :) we got first in the compitition we played this piece in. The beginning part on the clarinet is so fun, scratch that, all of it is fun on clarinet ^.^

  • Eugh.. Not the best I've heard with saxes and bass clarinets.. It's a difficult piece, granted...

  • we played the marching version of this song

  • The oboe needs to be a bit quieter.

  • My high school band played this song, and it is extremely difficult. I play the baritone saxophone, and even my band teacher admitted it is almost impossible to play the fast parts with a bari. I felt bad for the guy on tuba though. Even more impossible! But it was fun, and the song sounds awesome.

  • we played this song this year...awesome way to end my senior year!! :D

  • i love this song and my band is playing it but our oboes suck and the solo sounds awful. i really hope he switches it to some other instrument

  • @wilburmcflurry - Fortunately I was able to play this song as part of a Super Band at North Carolina School of the Arts as part of a summer program. My high school band sucked so bad there wasn't even a chance of getting close even if we did have an oboe player.

What was neat - The band director we had that week knew Barney Chance (yes I'm that old :))

  • @SeeliePan that sounds like it would be amazing. fortunately the rest of our high school band is really good so it sounded very good. also i am from south carolina

  • being a snare drummer i had to cringe at the solo (I'm playing it with the ruffs) and the con islancio section there is a quarter note (ruffed into) then another quarter note what this player played was in a different feeling meter and is not what Chance wrote (it might have been a different copy if so please disregard what i said) we have a fantastic oboist as well and i love me some of her solo! great job band!! (sorry for bashing the snare drummer it's all in good faith just because I am one

  • This music is so well written! It's a really great band piece :D

  • WOW! This piece is so amazing! Could have done better by a little but not much. The trumpet did go flat alot by the end of his/hers solo. But other then that I thought it was really good! You guys did an amazing job with this piece of music!

  • WOW1 This piece is so amazing! Could have done better by a little but not much. The trumpet did go flat alot by the end of his/hers solo. But other then that I thought it was really good! You guys did an amazing job with this piece of music!

  • pretty good id give it a 2 and a 2 means excellent. but the trumpet soloist was very out of tune and had a tendency to blast and near the beginning there was a rush but over all very good

  • I'm in grade 8 this year, and my band is playing this for our next concert in 11 weeks. It's really fun to play, and has a catchy tune. Good job to this band, it wasn't perfect, but, hey, nobody's perfect.

  • We're playing this at my school this year . . . I'm first flute and picc and I am owning that Vivace part!

  • Trumpets!

  • i really like this piece....i played this song on F horn 1st AND last chair...(the only horn player).....this band sound REALLY awsome....give this band a triple 1s

  • We played this my junior year in high school. I was second chair trumpet. The vivace section I can still play (and often do) during my warm-up and I graduated 31 years ago. I love this song so I forgave some obvious errors in tuning and precision. I would slow the second section down a bit and get it together.

  • Woahhh, my middle school played this when I was in 7th grade honor band lol. That snare drummer is a pansy, taking out the ruff before the sixteenth notes at the end hahahaha. Overall, some tuning problems throughout, but a good performance.

  • I'm playing 2nd Trumpet for this in school. It's a bitch to play but still a great song.

  • We played this my freshman year at the University of Mary Washington. I played the temple blocks. I love the 6/8 section :)

  • trumpet was late on last note.. that not a good way to end.

  • Aahhh the 6/8 section is soo much fun to play!!!

  • We're playing this in my 8th grade band. It's kind of hard, but not too bad. Good job- y'all sound really good.

  • oboe solo was amazing!

  • if anyone has tips for the vivace variation in general please message me, our band in general is struggling with it. i am too, i play trumpet.

  • I am a fellow trumpet player and I know that if one plays something slowley at first, then slowley faster and faster untill you are able to get it. That is the only way I know that you can do without slowing down the vivace part...

  • is this a high school band?

  • I played this song in my high school for our last concert. :) this peice is really good. Challenging, but good. I loove variation 3 in this song. One this about this band, is that you really have to work on tuning.

  • my band too. I can't wait to play this!

  • I'm so excited to play this at our school. I'm in the top band and I'm a year younger than everyone but it's going to be amazing

  • nice but you have really nasty flute pitches. playing the piccolo part for this was key to stay in tune. the clarinets in the begining arent that great

  • do you gave any tips/suggestions on how to really master the picc part for this? I have to play it...argh those nasty high notes!

  • if possible to write me a message on here, then do it i will give u my email so it doesnt become one long comment.

  • nice job guys! my band is playing this song this year.

but eeek the flutes were quite out of tune on some of the high notes (F# and Bb especially) haha....couldn't help but notice that being a flute player myself

  • @xofantasygirlxo its the same in our band! but i'mma drummer so....=D

  • Oboe solo at 3:00 was very good.

Trumpet solo at 4:00 wasn't bad either, the last note was kind of "blurty" as I would say.

Very strong low brass section 4:40 to 5:02

Temple block player needs work, the mistakes stand out as you replay this video over and over.

  • we played this in my band class way back when.

  • We played this as our Marching Band closing piece in 1989.

  • many times i had heard an, orphanage choir, sing that song, back at, " eden orphanage " in, py'ongtaek, south korea ( 1954 ) they would sing for us gi's after we did renovations to upgrade their modest buildings for, 65, children.. joe damery

  • wanna know something funny? my freshman year at canyon high, this was our marching band piece. haha it so isnt a march

  • I remember seeing that. XD

  • haha thats awesome. do you go to school over here?

  • Simi Valley

  • lol nice. i am the sax section leader at Canyon. i play tenor sax.

  • man, i miss this song. we played this last year..at the beggining we thought it was hard but after a while it sounded great...at least i thought it did.

  • I'm playing this in my schools wind ensemble on trumpet and it's amazing :)

  • variation 2 is very FUN TO play on trumpet i also had to learn this for marching band. In variations 1 trumpets only play like 6 notes!!

  • Those second and third variations are brutal on the woodwind

  • u mean the second and fourth variation right? coz variation 3 is very easy for the woodwinds

  • Yes, I do. whoops :p

  • When I was in 6th grade, my schools symphonic band played this. Keep in mind that these were middle schooll kids. They said it was really hard..

  • Yeah we played this my freshman year and it was pretty hard. But it was a very fun piece.

  • ha im playing this song in marching band. good song for my freshman year.

    second variation was intense haha

  • I played the bass trombone in this, too fun at the fast parts.

  • I played this in Highschool my freshman year, much love!!

  • We played this in high school 25 years ago. I think everyone did. I still love it.

  • Comment removed

  • at 4:20, all trombones need to stnd up, or at least 3rd trombone. lol they have the sweetest part. 1st to 6th position in beat

  • i think the beginning and the oboe/trumpet solo was too fast. should have been slower to express some more emotion. my middle school band is doin this for UIL. Competition

  • Your middle school must be really impressive. I just played this with my high school band and it is not an easy piece. I play the euphonium but i can tell the woodwinds(especially) have brutally hard sections.

  • The trumpets sound good but are difficult to hear... louder PLEASE!!!!

  • yay. our honors band is playing this!

  • i playedddd the oboee solo :] in 6th gradeee. it rockeddd all superiorss ha...this was an awesomeee peiccee

  • oh god, i just played this like a couple weeks ago for a competition!!! nad it does superiourly rock sox off!

  • i was lead percussionist when i preformed this song at a music festival and i thought you guess did a great job. The only thing i noticed was that the percussion leading part felt like they were trying to drag on faster they just needed to lean back a bit at a smigion of a slower tempo. your march part was very jolly and enjoyable

  • tempo...

  • Awesome job!! We're playing this too! At parts, the percussion was a little off, but the group performance was great. A few more comments of mine: the oboe and trumpet solos rocked, a 4:22 some flute randomly came in by accident (oopsies, lol), the tempo was a little different than we play it which isnt neccesarily a bad thing but it sounds a litle better a tad bit slower at the last 1/3 of the song especially when the percussion does their little thing, and also nice vibrato!

  • Cool. i am playing the oboe solos! yay 4 me!! i will be uploading this song on my profile when our band plays it

  • Sehr gut! viel Spass!

  • we're playin dis song in band!! XD

  • the sax and euph duo solo thingy is awesome at 1:00. THATS MY FAV PART becausei play the euphonium and its very enjoyable!

  • i've played that oboe solo. =)

years ago though...i miss that thing...

  • I love that oboe solo! :)

  • yup i love how he uses vibrato though! our obo soloist in this song doesnt use

  • we play this song last year when we where 8th graders

  • That Trumpet part at the Alegro Con Brio, which starts at 4:26 is very difficult to play but you get used to it

  • My band played this last year! It's such a fun and pretty piece :) We are apparently like first in the state and we got a superior in our adjudication :D It's one of my favorite songs

  • oh yeah, i totally play the tam-tam in this song, very fun part indeed.

    :D

  • i love this song im a senior of miami killian senior high and i play the 1st trumpet, we're going to give a concert next week and we're going to play this song

  • our band got 9th in state with this song and we are a middle school band 7th-8th <3

  • Very amazing song! We're playing it for our festival of bands! I can't wait!

  • we ALMOST sight read this in class

but people kept talking so we had to write

and it looked really cool :(

    i was so dissapointed

  • MY FRIEND PLAYED TEMPLE BLOCKS ON THIS but he is not from west chester our band is currently playing this piece its great

  • cool! i play 1st oboe on this song

  • Wow that trumpet solo was pretty amazing i play trumpet and this piece was a real challenge for me but i got through it and yikes whats with the clarinet squeaks its almost painful to hear and the woodblocks are a little fast

  • Yeah its definitely a hard song on trumpet. But no doubt a fun one. The part at 4:26 is amazing! The only truly hard part is getting the sixteenth notes up to speed, and the strangely metered part at 5:22 perfectly timed.

  • It's not strangely metered at all. It's 6/8 time with 3 beats instead of two.

  • The piece is in 3/4 time. I'm looking at the score right now,

  • Yes, but in the last variation, the trumpets play the melody in a duple beat while the rest of the band is in 3, which is why conductors choose to conduct it with one downbeat a measure.

  • Look at what the conductor does at 6:27

  • woodblock player needs some help...otherwise awesome. i'm leaving to go play this in an hour at honor band concert!!
