i was wondering if i should get a sugar glider as a baby or an adult i would say a baby because they would bond with you better but if you get an adult its home is all new to him because they have been in a pet store for a long time or a breaders house but other people say to get them as an adult someone please help me
How often do you handle Joeys when they are first oop? How long is it safe to hold them for and what ways should you hold them? I am a new glider owner and my pair just had their first joey (i plan on neutering the male very soon)
What are the downsides of owning a sugar glider? I find that they are adorable, and online information, I know from experience, isn't very dependable. How many is recommended, in your opinion, to own?
@msheppard91 If you decide to get gliders, you should own them in pairs. I would start with 2, and if you like them, get another pair. As far as the downsides, they are extremely needy and time consuming, which is the reason I no longer have them. You have to specially make their food every day, and spend a certain amount of time with them every day. If you ever went on vacation, they would likely have to come with you because there aren't many other options. It's definitely a commitment...
Do you think that about dogs and cats as well? The thing you clearly don't understand is that these animals live longer and better lives in captivity. They don't have to worry about predators, lack of food or water, harsh environments, etc. So please, explain why it's "really cute" to leave them in their natural habitats.
haha i have 6 of them one just had babys mine look just like that cuz they were just born mommys name =minnie daddy name= mickey and babys r = ducky, chreey, jojo, and pluto
Thats just awsome! I'm looking for some sugergliders right now, the next animal I will but would be a sugerglider, i just need to get some money first. Your baby looks very nice and healthy! And I agree with u, you should start hold them right when they get out of the pouch, that makes a nice and social animal!
lol valentine just ignore them they don't deal with sugar gliders enough to know how to respond to your video. i think it is sweet though definitely a healthy little baby. i've never held one that young! so cute.
ohhh i hade no clue im srry about that how old is you r sugar glider now. i have a sugar glider name shoogie. i love him so much but he is not to freindly.he is about 6 months old. and how old do sugar gliders live to.
I fail to see how holding it is being cruel. The mother was 2 feet away. You are SUPPOSED to handle young gliders to tame them and make them used to humans.
Aw, she sounds unhappy. She prolly wants her mama. I just got a boy glider. He made a lot of noise the first week or so, but now he just sleeps in my pocket.
How did your grandmother lose YOUR glider in a divorce? And there is no such thing as a free glider, unless you consider getting babies through breeding your own gliders free.
i'm in australia and we're not allowed to keep them as pets here because they're a local native species and they're endangered. very sad. would totally get one from america and bring it up here. are yours australian native or american?
All I have to say is the PA Game Commision needs to get their heads out of their asses so I can own one of these...They claim they are a danger to the local wildlife haha...stupid ass rednecks, if I move to Florida I'll buy my gliders from you
It's because she is new. You are going to have to try to just grin and bare it while she bonds with you. Try taking her in a small bathroom or a closet where you can sit, and let her just roam around. Eventually she will start climbing on you and playing with you. It may take a while, but she will bond eventually. Try to carry her around a bonding pouch (buy one online if you don't have one already) for a few hours everyday, which will really help the bonding process.
do you know any good sugar glider sellers cause at pet shops whenever i see a sugar glider it looks really unhealthy if you know any please reply to my comment
mine are a little over 70 days old and they've started to wander away from their mom. can they find each other by themselves or should i be worried? this s the first time my glider's had babies...
i have 6 i started out w 2 but then she had 2 sets of twins. the first set was 2 girls razzal and dazzal the second was a boy and a girl named kiwi and bobby. the momma is a cinimon color the rest are more white. but when she was like HUGE like she had two walnuts in her pouch. the tails and legs would sometimes stick out and she would grab it and play with it unil they pull it back in it was so funny. but she would leave them in the pouch and i would stick m hand in and they would climb on it.
Usually between $100 and $150, depending on where you get them. If you want a different colour than the normal black and grey, it will cost a bit more.
hey, i live in north carolina, do you think they would have any in wilmington? if so how much would they cost for black and white or any color and how much online
It depends on if they're legal in North Carolina or not. You'll have to do some research and find out. If they are, then they'll be between $100 and $150, more than likely.
we just bought 2 sugar gliders and we live in north carolina tooo. we live in greensboro....and we got them at a craft fair..although they dont hand them out too anybody..you have to take a test and pass it, so they know it is going to a good home and all but they are legal. they were about $350 each and they are going to be great pets :) if you ever need any advice about them me and my sister can help you just email us back :)

wat the noise meaning? crying??? wat should i do if my girl got pregnant?? need to change the cage?? becuz afraid the baby glider will drop from tall... =/
The noise is her calling for her mother. If you didn't want your glider to get pregnant, you should definitely look into getting your male neutered. You need to put a nesting box in her cage full of soft pieces of fleece. She will keep the baby in there, and it won't fall. And even if it did, you would be surprised how strong the babies are. They are capable of keeping themselves up on the bars.
i am not for or against handling gliders so soon of them being OOP (i have two myself) however, i do reccomend waiting about a week to start handling them. and yes, you are correct in saying that you should only handle them for about 5 min at a time, gradually increasing as time goes by. as for all you idiots that not only do not own sugar gliders, but have no idea what they are, get informed and get a life!

Obviously you're just as retarded as you sound. You must know nothing about gliders or you wouldn't be making a FOOL of yourself. You can handle newborn joeys for 5 minutes at a time from the day they come out of the pouch. And no, he did not come out of the "womb", he came out of a POUCH.
I agree. On websites if you search, they actually reccomend to often take them out of the pouch daily, so the mom gets used to the human touch. And then she won't mind the scent. :):)
yeh jinx I bread sugar gliders, and I can tell you there's no harm in handeling the little guys when they just come out, GRANTED the parents are bonded to you.
The little guy in this vid is not right of the womb, Marsupials don't gestate in that way. He's been out of the womb probably about 2 months now, and has been growing inside the mothers pouch.
Not 'spose to be out of it's mother's pouch 'til it's several weeks old, you could have killed it. Also, you should get your gliders fixed. Breeding sugar gliders is highly illegal inless you have a permit.
It is several weeks old. It has already spent 8 weeks in the pouch. It is in it's second stage of development, which is out of the pouch. Also, I do have a permit. If you're going to leave snarky comments, please do your research first.
