  • Simply wonderful to be able to hear Joni Mitchell talk about love this way. She's a treasure.

  • ~ I love hearing Joni using references from scripture.

  • oh man...why did i have to see this clip...i'd rather remember hr the way she way..young, gorgous, talented

man sh looks like an old leather shoe...uggh

  • @ChiroQuacker I just wonder, how do you plan to prevent yourself from getting old ?

  • "Love is all we need!" I believe The Beatles agreed!

  • linda

  • Joni, like so many songwriters of the past 50 yrs, expresses the complexities of human life in just 3 or 4 mins.

That you choose not to see the reality in her songs, questioning her motives, is understandable but it is also potentially a reflection of your own inability to accept writing as a simple need to express a simple emotion.

Such writing allows people to respond to music of all sorts emotionally, seeing a little of themselves in the subject matter.

    Music is emotional.

    Thank you please.

  • LOL This coming from a woman who abandoned her

daughter so that she could pursue her singing career?

What it is about this 60's generation that thinks this kind

of behavior forgivable. Joni justifies abandoning her kid

in the same way she justifies SMOKING CIGARETTES!

My god, she has the look and the wisdom of a homeless

woman! Joni's fans are more NOSTALGIC than they are

musically astute. What they would never tolerate in a friend

they tolerate in a celebrity! Ugh! The 60s!

  • @thegrinchl7 what an ignorant reply...judge if you want to...nobody is perfect...her music has helped me like no other...maybe she has made mistakes in your eyes, but those are your eyes...thank god she had a music career or I wouldn't have had her music in my life...it's a waste to judge how things turn out...maybe this is how it was to be perfectly...you can be negative if you want...but you never walked in her shoes...with this comment, what do you really know about love?

  • @MATTshortMUSIC-Well, your complete allegiance to a celebrity

is not unlike most Americans. This idea that because she "helped"

you now excuses her from all responsibility. Little wonder many

celebrities indulge this privilege. It's also interesting that this really

seems to be all about YOU. You identify with Joni? So it's under-

standable that if I were to say something "negative" about Joni,

YOU would suddenly find yourself offended. Strange. Let me guess:

    you're on meds?

  • @thegrinchl7

Lol...no...never been on any medications...but maybe you are since you brought it up. I am not taking up for her because she is a celebrity...and it has nothing to do with my being American. She did what she thought was best at the time...and if she wants to smoke, that's her business, not yours. Sounds like you are a very critical person and not very forgiving, I guess you have issues too...we all do...And yes...it is ALL about me...it is my life:)

  • @MATTshortMUSIC - No, actually "smoking" is everybody's business. She argued that 2nd hand smoke is a "myth". That people imagine their illness. I find that there's a certain class of people in the USA who wish to be loved unconditionally regardless of their anti-social behavior (smoking is an act of hostility, to yourself and others). They are a burden to everyone in their community and to their estranged family. The Grinch grew a heart. Now you must grow some responsibility.

  • @thegrinchl7 I can only be responsible for what I do, not for what she chooses to do. I don't smoke, but it's not up to me to dictate what others should do. I don't like second hand smoke either, but I don't think smokers are trying to hurt me with their extra smoke...lol...we are all free to choose for ourselves and that's the way it should be...and when you get to the point that you aren't bothered by whatever someone chooses, whatever it is, then you will be truly free...

  • @MATTshortMUSIC - I think smoking is an act of self-loathing.

That it negatively affects the health of those around you makes

it an act of violence. This lethargic, ill defined social boundaries

you have is a leftover from the 60s. It doesn't work. You see, if I

take my Pit Bull off its leash and it attacks you, or I take my gun

and target practice in my apartment...It makes my head spin to

think how fast you'd call for my arrest. Why is cigarette smoking

    any different?

  • @thegrinchl7 Oh, it's the grinch. He's full of shit, and hates everything. That pretty much explains it all.

  • aNd throughout her career had written several songs that referenced this child always with a sense of sadness and loss. Her popular success was steady but

I wouldn't think the first few albums gave her security. Plus she had to tour and find time to write. @thegrinchi7 HALLELUJAH, TAKE IT TO CHURCH. Misosogny is

if he even had any knowledge of the stigma or these woman's actual realities.

  • kyentsezangmo: gee were you there? do you know someone who was? and then

the obvious question what happened that on top of there judgements you harbor such anger to woman in your. And what's up with that sweeping statement that generation was given everything. You sound old and bitter. Joni had very good reason and if she cannot support this baby adoption make sense.

  • it's pretty amazing to hear her speak about things

  • The courage is in her work It is reflected in her process and her devotion to her craft .

  • Joni is the real thing. There are made 10 people over the last 20 years in popular music with her courage to be herself.

  • @savedfaves - Um...Joni was paid for her work. Where is the "courage"?

  • @thegrinchl7 she certainly wasn't paid very much for Mingus, olololol.

  • What's her definition of romantic love, that she is so dismissive of it? It is the start of real love - or can be.

  • @zephyrquartz I think she is saying that when people fixate on romantic love and on getting romantic love it can make them very selfish, like the parent who is more concerned about their love interest than their child or the person who has an affair not caring that they are destroying a family because all they care about it getting their needs met. Romantic love, sexual love isn't the only kind of love and often sexual love isn't love at all but lust.

  • Everyone, has the ability to cast stones. When they throw, it matters not, where the stone lands, as long as it causes pain. Then, one day, they recieve a knock on the head. Is it their God? Or some glancing blow from a stranger?

"judge, Lest you be judged". No truism, has ever been written. xxxxx

  • Why do we age? It takes away so much of our sense of mysticism.

awe Joni, I could talk with you for days on end.

  • Well, I love you Joni.

  • I have always identified with her song 'Little Green'. I was a child who was given up too and I always had the hope of finding the one who gave me away. I have only love, like is talked about in the Bible, for her for I did not want to be angry and bitter and judgmental. I found my mother and look very like her in the way that Joni and her daughter look alike. I pray that Joni and her new found family grow in real love with each other. I accept that it has not done so for me and my mother.

  • Dear lady better she abounded her daughter than she be mother who her daughter never seen only other women who carry her, Joni is a very very powerfull woman everything she created she did alone no video markets no gay clubs noone write for her music or make scenography for concert becouse of all this facts she has more powerfull than another modern star. joni is an art and nothing alse.

  • @Stefan92bgdorcol agreed:)

  • @thegrinchl7 Are you a Christian?

  • @theatlantisrise - Am I a "Christian"? Well...I do not believe in talking snakes, burning bushes, virgin birth or molesting altar boys...so, I guess I am not a Christian.

  • @thegrinchl7

placing your child for adoption is not abandonment or abuse.

Had you ever studied music or a single instrument for even one day you would eat those words. Joni is among the greatest female Jazz musicians and singers of all time.

    Troll elsewhere please.

  • @calicopark Love your comment...Joni is my favorite:)

  • @thegrinchl7 You are profoundly ignorant - & vile with it. Most women who relinquished babies in the '50s, '60s & '70s (you have much to learn about punctuation, too) did so primarily because prevailing misogyny & conservatism made keeping them nigh on impossible. I should know - I'm an adoptee; my mother relinquished me under extreme coercion & duress & spent several decades agonising over it before we met. Grow up, & grow some humanity & compassion (however, I suspect taste is beyond you).

  • @kyentsezangmo -Oh lord, here comes the self-pity! The "Life is hard" routine! The primal scream of your generation, as if none of us knew this! This coming from the generation who was literally given EVERYTHING. Your mother could have done worse, she might have actually STAYED WITH YOU, then you'd be even more fucked up! Joni likely did what most people do when confronted with guilt: she turned her act of crude selfishness into a noble SACRIFICE. Then cried all the way to the bank! Pfft! Women!

  • @thegrinchl7 You don't know this person's life yet you talk like you're an expert on thegrinch17. And that was a low blow to you to write, "Your mother could have done worse, she might have actually STAYED WITH YOU". You sound just as intolerant.

  • @kyentsezangmo You are an adoptee and are not in contact with your mother. Joni is now in contact with her daughter. You grow some humanity. You're the one on the soap box.

  • @Pippisongbird correction: are now in contact with your mom.

  • @thegrinchl7 She gave her child up for adoption. And you sound really spiritual.

  • We would have a great conversation at that lunch. Just a lunch, a little talk and I'll be okay.

  • I drove a school bus for 15 years. Yhere is a small percentage of real trouble makers (about 10%) on each bus load. I learned to love the unlovable thoughall the turmoil. My mother read the famous love passage in 1 corinthians13 while tucking me in and sunk into my soul but I never lived it until I drove the bus for the public school. I know it better now. I don't think kids under stand this kind of love

you have to grow up. This is my experience.

  • such a wonderful, powerful lady

  • Joni's the soundtrack of my life and continues to be ... love her so much, words can not describe

  • Here's the "Deal" with Joni Mitchell

-Her Music and Lyrics are Intensely Personal--

Thus Intensely Personal People Can Gyrate To Her Beat and Weep Over Her Incredible Ourpourings that are -- intensely persional and autobiographical...

Extremely well crafted poetry and imagry hellp her depict, thus they serve her greatly---it flows...

    A Great Talent with Words.

    So Be IT!

  • she is, she is amazing.

  • Love you Joni!!!!!!!!!!!! Forever <3

  • Joni is a sage.
