Racism... it just won't die. And to top it off basically no one (outside of Neo Nazis) will ever admit to having racist motivations for even the most blatantly racists viewpoints. 50 years ago people would have just said "yeah I'm racist, so what?" But now that's unacceptable you get clowns like Blair pretending this isn't about race and taking offense if someone states the obvious.
4:04 the caller states that when you give one race of people over another then you are starting problems. *not exact quote*
it is about diversity, not one single race. since when is diversity a race? i can understand that, if you are minority, if you feel out of place because you want to be excepted and not looked upon any differently; because, lets face it, not everyone is accepting, but dint bring up repeatability how you have assimilated to they "white culture"
I can't wait to move out of here. You can try and say this isn't racism but we all know it is.There was a white person (0:21) in that mural by showing a hispanic kid, and a black kid , if the location was an issue the race shouldn't have been brought up by this guy at all. I'm not considered a minority because of my predominant italian features but I am hispanic and have noticed in all venues that when my last name comes up people change. It is so sad to see racism still exists in America.
I am also Hispanic and very dark and this was not racist!!
But all of you morons bitching about this is why DEMOCRATS can never win in Arizona anymore!! Look at the latest polls liberal/democrats are losing in every major race not only in Yavapi County but state wide!! Gosar is leading Kirkpatrick by 20%! Brewer is leading Goddard by 25%! It is racism from the Left that is chasing voters away from voting for democrats!!
@795re how in the hell is it not racist that a guy was made to make the kid in the painting 'lighter' are you serious?? i doubt you are hispanic at all, you are probably just a redneck troll... and if you really are hispanic then you are a token, a sell-out and should be ashamed for defending this scum and voting GOP.. a Latino that votes GOP might as well be a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders
Blair is a right-wing dork, like just about everybody else in Prescott. His logic is faulty and his reasoning is weak. Conditions when he grew up are irrelevant, and there is no evidence that the color of the president had anything to do with anything. I'm sure he honestly doesn't believe his sentiments were racist -- and if the intent isn't racist, is the comment? Anyway, what Blair is mostly, is slow-witted and conservative. Pardon the redundancy.
You need to purchase a dictionary and a history book. The term "liberal fascism" is utterly meaningless. When you flaunt the fact that your main sources of "information" are Rush Limbaugh and Faux News, it's like holding up a sign that says, "Ignorant And Proud Of It!"
Wow. Really? Steve Blair is a racist idiot. Hey, Steve, I'm darker than you and smarter than you and therefore better than you. It's great that you're old b/c you'll die sooner than me and I'll get to live in a world without you.
The artist was commissioned, and it was his vision that was being payed for, if it was his decision to make one kid the center of his mural, then that's his decision and they should respect his artistic vision. The subtitles and text slides in this video were not helpful, and added a definite slant to this video. I think it's ridiculous that people reacted the way that they did to the mural. However, I think the whole celebrate diversity theme is ridiculous. People need to just ignore (cont)
@182below0 Race and see each other as people. When you "celebrate diversity" you are drawing attention to differences that don't matter. This is why affirmative action is also so ridiculous. Why should minorities be accepted or denied because of quotas. Why not just hire the person who is most qualified. This clearly makes the most sense. And it is the least racist way to handle the situation. Hold everyone to the same standards, regardless of race, religion, or gender.
The radio host is not a "FOX NEWS RADIO HOST"- he is a city councilman on a dinky station in BFE Arizona~ The station airs Chris Wallace on Sunday mornings, and brief top hour newscasts from Fox, but they do not carry any Fox News Radio shows like John Gibson, Brian Kilmeade, Alan Colmes, Andrew Napolitano, etc. But the urge to paint Fox with the racist brush was too tempting, wasn't it?
"It was recommended that we have the diversity of the children"
OK great! Accurately represent the diversity of the children of the town. For Christs sake this town is 92.93% White and 0.50% Black. Is it really unreasonable to suggest that the most dominate kid on the mural better racially represent the town?
@Yereviltwin2 By representing the 92.93% of white kids in appropriate proportion, that wouldn't BE recognizing the diversity, rather the tyranny of the majority. If there were only 1 Asian in the school district, and they wanted to represent DIVERSITY, then that 1 Asian should be front and center.
Sorry, I forgot “diversity” is a liberal code word for minorities, and when libs mention diversity of people they really mean racial diversity. Do you think that if you want to paint a mural at a school that all towns’ people can see, it should best represent the people of the town and not be divisive? I live in a diverse (black) part of my city. The murals on the schools are all black, is that the same “tyranny of the majority?” or is that fine because they are “diverse” people.
@Yereviltwin2 - If all those murals are only showing black people and their intent is to celebrate diversity, then those murals aren't doing a very good job. But without being able to see those murals or really knowing what the murals were painted for in the first place, it's tough to really comment on them.
The murals around my city have a racial and cultural overtones. In the western addition most murals are centered around blacks. Down in the mission the murals are Hispanic centered. I don't have a problem with them cause they represent the community they are in and they bring the community together. for the most part the murals are racially glorified stories in nature and no complains cause they logically make scene. (cont)
this piece of shit y'all are calling art has nothing to do with transportation- or going green- oh yeah it has a bike and the kid is wearing a green shirt...
(cont) Now in an area that is 92% White, it only seem logical that you would want a mural that represents the community just as they do here in the Western Addition and the Mission. The mural in question failed because it did not bring the community together and was divisive. The towns people felt brow beaten with racial a message. I think that a mural in Harlem that showed a dominate white guy over shadowing a multiracial group of kids wouldn't fit the community. (Cont)
Public art is supposed to be enjoyed by the public at large. The folks in the Mission and Western addition enjoy their murals cause they racially represent the people. But when white people want the same kind of mural they are called bigots and racists? Why the double standard? Why are white people held to a higher standard of racial tolerance then minorities? Can white communities not have murals made based on their race and culture and same as minority communities?
@Yereviltwin2 I think you missed the point. It's not about "white people want the same kind of mural". It's the fact that people were driving by the mural screaming racial obscenities from their windows. Those same people were the ones crying in outrage and demanding that the mural be changed.
You may actually wanna do a little research on what's been going on in Arizona lately.
Your point is honestly pretty irrelevant. You're attempting to draw parallels when the situation is quite a bit different from the examples you're making out of your own area. If the issue was people saying, "Hey, this city is 92% white, we want a white child on the mural," that would be one thing. The murals in your area aren't about expressing diversity, and whether or not you disagree with the artist's purpose in his expression is your own opinion.
@Yereviltwin2 - I understand what you're saying. You feel the mural was about representing the community. We feel, however, and the school said that the mural was about green transportation and green ideas and celebrating the diversity that is within the school. The community is not diverse but the school is when you look at the numbers. You're right, the % of black students is still 0.5% but look at the number of Hispanic students vs white students. (cont.)
(Cont) race is important to groups of people, whether we like to admit it or not. Race is an important factor in my black neighborhood and it shows in their murals, and I think that’s OK because it works for the neighborhood. It brings them together even though they are excluding people like me. Now there is a very good logical argument to not use race or all black faces in the murals, but it brings the neighborhood comfort and identity. The same goes for Prescott.
@Yereviltwin2 - I understand what you are saying but you have to remember that the mural is not about the community, it is about the school. And the school is diverse. Also, the mural is meant to demonstrate diversity it is not meant to be a representation of the population of the student body, therefore it wouldn't make sense to have most of the images be of white people. That wouldn't show the diversity of the school. (cont.)
(Cont) Bring the community together with a mural, don’t divided them and beat them with a message that may be logical but is divisive. Think of it like this, if you were to paint a mural that showed the landscape of AZ you would have the Grand Canyon, sunsets, desert, cactus, and coyotes. It would be seem strange and out of place to pronominally feature an apple orchard. There are apple orchards in AZ but does that mean they should be the pronominally featured?
@Yereviltwin2 - To use an analogy, let's say you're an artist with a number of paint bottles at your disposal. The bottle with the most paint available was white. The other bottles have very little paint but there is enough to paint with. Now someone commissions you to paint them something with a diverse selection of colors. What are you going to do? (cont.)
@Yereviltwin2 - You're going to use whatever paint is in those non-white paint bottles as much as you can PLUS some paint from the white bottle because you were asked for a DIVERSE selection of colors.
What you are saying is that you have a logical and reasonable argument for making the mural the way it is, and if that logical reasoning behind the public mural pisses people off, then so be it, the reasoning is logical. I say the fundamental purpose of a public mural for everyone to enjoy and that is not be divisive for the community. The mural failed because it was divisive even though the mural would logical work perfectly fine somewhere else. (Cont)
@Yereviltwin2 - And when you're celebrating something like diversity, I don't think it's important to reflect percentages of the races in the mural. It's art not math. They are trying take a sampling of the different ethnic and cultural groups that make up the school. And those images were of the kids in the school. (cont)
@Yereviltwin2 - And to say that the mural divided the community, I think, is unfair. I think Blair divided the community intentionally or not. Remember people said MLK was dividing the US back in the 60s.
Remember too that this mural was about the school not the community. So it should reflect the school the way the school wants to be reflected.
@Laramas - Don't be too quick to shut down someone like Yereviltwin2. He/She seems to actually want to discuss and we appreciate that. If you get confrontational they're just gonna get confrontational with you and where does that leave us?
@Yereviltwin2 - Who says they have draw or paint the children in mural in relation to the percentage of the population which they represent? That's ridiculous.
That would mean that a minority would never be the largest figure. This mural isn't about how many kids are white or black or Asian or Indian or Hispanic, it's about celebrating diversity and encouraging green transportation.
@Yereviltwin2 - Are you going to tell that kid whose image is in the mural, "Sorry, your image does not racially represent our town because only 0.5% of the town is like you and that's not enough to make to the most prominent position in this mural."
the second he said that there were 4 black people in this community, I knew he was racist. If you can count how many friends you have of a certain race......guess what.......you're racist.
My God, this man is horrifying! May he never have a job in the public sector every again. He doesn't deserve to serve the city or to be on public airwaves.
No, Arizona doesn't have a racial problem! Tells you all this anti-illegal immigrant bullshit is just a front for good old bigotry of insecure white folks.
It's about time white people spoke up on their behalf, regardless the reason.
As it stands, our nation, and all our nations, from Europe to Australia, to the U.S. and Canada, are being inundated by non-white peoples. A genocide is occurring, but that's fine and dandy for you, I suppose.
We all know that diversity is code for anti-white.
@CommonSenseBrigade Yawn, another racist teabagging nut. First, you need to consult a dictionary of the word "genocide" cuz Mexicans moving into America doesn't constitute genocide of white people. Second, those nations you just talked about were stolen from the original non-white inhabitants so there's nothing originally "white" about America. Finally, I take heart that your fears are coming true. Look the census. It's too late for your racist kind. Now, go suck David Duke's cock, idiot.
Genocide is killing an entire group of people. This is not happening. Just so you know, interracial marriages and the babies that may come from them are not genocide.
Just have to add: at the end of the radio show, Blair says 'Stay with us, we'll be right back!' ...WELL, he is NOT back, because shortly thereafter, he was FIRED.
Thank you for this information, I appreciate everyone's research and posting of videos and blogs to help us all understand what is taking place... WELL DONE.
Just painful to listen to. "I am not a racist, BUT..." The but part means, now "I'm going to prove what I just said was a lie." Did he use the "some of my best friends are..." too?
No white person should ever use that line, as they have nothing to feel shamed about.
The fact of the matter is that the mural is a direct mockery and form of disrespect toward the white majority, when the majority of the characters within the mural are non-white. That's a sign of disrespect, whether you want to believe it or not.
The painter is an obvious fruitloop, given his appearance and tone of speech.
When people say that they want more diversity, they're simply arguing that they hate seeing so many white faces, and that they wish for the destruction of a predominately white school, community, etc. It's so blatantly obvious and pathetic.
@CommonSenseBrigade Diversity does not mean anti-white. You should really change your screen name to nocommonsensebrigage. There's nothing anti-white about educating people of other cultures and races other than white.
He says people like him who grew up in Prescott were sooooo familiar with diversity they don't even see skin color. And big city people are unfamiliar with diverse communities. That alone makes him look like a doofis.
This guy just can't NOT put his foot in his mouth. He just keeps going.
The fact that he sees this part of this mural as a "black guy" and not a "guy"(a human being) makes him a racist. Old, ignorant, stupid assholes like these need to hurry up and die.
Actually, it makes him like all people, but unfortunately, you aren't able to see the reality that all people are tribal.
Do you honestly believe that most people don't notice the race of a person in an advertisment or mural? Get out of your fantasy land, because you notice them as well.
I doubt had one picture been of a non-white anything would have been said. Something was said due to the disrespect being shown, when a community is misrepresented.
This guy is ridiculous. The mural is just fine. the lady on the phone is also just plain unintelligent. Look up MURAL PROTEST and you might find videos of the demonstration that took place after this happened. Steve Blair is an idiot.
WOW what is the world coming to...This is America people..America..what the f**** does the color of someone skin has to do with anything..THIS SICKENS ME and not just because I'm blk..Its because I'm very disappointed....the color of the person skin on the wall should not matter..what is making this racist is everyone thats talkin about it like these guys right here ..Its fucking art dude get over it
Of course it doesn't bother you, as non-whites, such as yourself, are overrepresented on a mural.
Whites founded the U.S., and they governed it in such a way for nearly 200 years. Since, the nation has undergone rapid demographic changes that seeks to put the founding stock of the nation, the historical stock of the nation, as small minorities in the land that they founded. Now you ask, why do people get upset, even when it is shown down to the local level?
@CommonSenseBrigade Dude thats not the point at all...you wanna know what racist...when I saw the mural I saw people.. until it was brought to my attention it was minority...you guys look at it and see they arent white...Ive went to schools where whites were the minority and in the school theres a mural with whites on it did we complain? Open your eyes and realize we are going backwards into history ..everyone needs to move on with all this racist crap...especially blacks thats stuck on slavery!

They are trying take a sampling of the different ethnic and cultural groups that make up the school. And those images were of the kids in the school. (cont)
StrippingTheMedia 1 year ago
@Yereviltwin2 - And to say that the mural divided the community, I think, is unfair. I think Blair divided the community intentionally or not. Remember people said MLK was dividing the US back in the 60s.
Remember too that this mural was about the school not the community. So it should reflect the school the way the school wants to be reflected.

@Yereviltwin2 - BTW. Thanks for sticking around and discussing with us even when we disagree.

@Laramas - Don't be too quick to shut down someone like Yereviltwin2. He/She seems to actually want to discuss and we appreciate that. If you get confrontational they're just gonna get confrontational with you and where does that leave us?
StrippingTheMedia 1 year ago
@Yereviltwin2 - Who says they have draw or paint the children in mural in relation to the percentage of the population which they represent? That's ridiculous.
That would mean that a minority would never be the largest figure. This mural isn't about how many kids are white or black or Asian or Indian or Hispanic, it's about celebrating diversity and encouraging green transportation.
StrippingTheMedia 1 year ago
@Yereviltwin2 - Are you going to tell that kid whose image is in the mural, "Sorry, your image does not racially represent our town because only 0.5% of the town is like you and that's not enough to make to the most prominent position in this mural."
StrippingTheMedia 1 year ago
the second he said that there were 4 black people in this community, I knew he was racist. If you can count how many friends you have of a certain race......guess what.......you're racist.

This is clearly an incitement of a "diversity" power struggle ! totally unacceptable !
It is much better to "whitewash" the education of the young mass, and quit drawing attention to everything

No, Arizona doesn't have a racial problem! Tells you all this anti-illegal immigrant bullshit is just a front for good old bigotry of insecure white folks.
Jujuman2003 1 year ago 4
@Jujuman2003
You're showing your bigotry for white people.
CommonSenseBrigade 1 year ago
@CommonSenseBrigade Yawn, another racist teabagging nut. First, you need to consult a dictionary of the word "genocide" cuz Mexicans moving into America doesn't constitute genocide of white people. Second, those nations you just talked about were stolen from the original non-white inhabitants so there's nothing originally "white" about America. Finally, I take heart that your fears are coming true. Look the census. It's too late for your racist kind. Now, go suck David Duke's cock, idiot.
Jujuman2003 1 year ago
@CommonSenseBrigade

Just painful to listen to. "I am not a racist, BUT..." The but part means, now "I'm going to prove what I just said was a lie." Did he use the "some of my best friends are..." too?

@phlashba Just replace the word "not" with the word "quite" in you head.
Applemask 1 year ago
@phlashba

Conservative talk show hosts hate diversity, and they feed the most ugly impulses of the masses.
oberlepa 1 year ago 4
@oberlepa
Diversity is code word for "anti-white".
When people say that they want more diversity, they're simply arguing that they hate seeing so many white faces, and that they wish for the destruction of a predominately white school, community, etc. It's so blatantly obvious and pathetic.
CommonSenseBrigade 1 year ago
@CommonSenseBrigade Diversity does not mean anti-white. You should really change your screen name to nocommonsensebrigage. There's nothing anti-white about educating people of other cultures and races other than white.

First clue someone is a racist: they start off a sentence with "Im not a racist, but..."
Second clue: They constantly accuse people of playing "the race card", especially when they are called on their racism.
SisterBigBone 1 year ago 5
@SisterBigBone
As stated, white people should never preface their thoughts, as there's nothing wrong with them.
That said, negroes do often use the race card. Just look at how anything and everything done to them is always blamed on racism.

He says people like him who grew up in Prescott were sooooo familiar with diversity they don't even see skin color. And big city people are unfamiliar with diverse communities. That alone makes him look like a doofis.
This guy just can't NOT put his foot in his mouth. He just keeps going.
ZambiziDiscoII 1 year ago 2
The fact that he sees this part of this mural as a "black guy" and not a "guy"(a human being) makes him a racist. Old, ignorant, stupid assholes like these need to hurry up and die.
donttrustany1 1 year ago
@donttrustany1
CommonSenseBrigade 1 year ago
This guy is ridiculous. The mural is just fine. the lady on the phone is also just plain unintelligent. Look up MURAL PROTEST and you might find videos of the demonstration that took place after this happened. Steve Blair is an idiot.

Because you're only blinded by the light.

@lpisces30
