  • sweet...:) check us out on a new parrot board..

  • This is what a good bird owner looks like!

  • Sounds a lot like my Quacker. I actually have 4 birds.

  • This is a hans macaw? He's so tiny compared to my 2 blue and golds :-) What a pretty little fella :-)

  • My "baby" Hahn's just turned one. And while I've shared with her "Beakers" video star moments on YouTube in the past, she never took much notice. Yet tonight she was ALL about Beaker, watching eagerly and responding boldly, mimicking practically everything he did! It was sooooo cute. And it appears she's finally figured out who SHE is. Thanks Beaker!

  • Beaker always looks great! We haven't heard from you two in a while! Mr Bill's wife, Mrs Bill! Martha our Hahns

  • Lol i though you meant Beaker from the Muppets.

  • I love his voice! Such a cute bird!

  • Beaker is so cute. I love to watch this guy. Looks so healthy. I do have to get Marths's wings clipped before the summer. She is flying around in the house

  • whow! you can really understand the "what's up". He speaks it very clear. Lovely bird :)

  • How come he doesn't fly away like budgies and cockatiels would?? is it relating to how intelligent they are???

  • At the time he was clipped. He was not able to fly upwards; only glide down.

He is now fully flighted and he does not go outside. I don't know if this is characteristic of Hahn's or not but he rarely ever flies. The only time is after I put him on a perch to eat... when he's done he flies right back to my shoulder. Other than that he pretty much stays on/with me at all times even though he could fly elsewhere.

  • @NerdBirdBeaker That's been my experience too, with Conrad.

Except for the time he leaped out of his carrier at the park and flew circles for a minute before realizing he didn't know how to fly down. Silly, silly bird.

  • @dandon81 Ive got a cockatiel and his wings arnt clipped and i take him outside for walks on my shoulder all the time and hes never flew away :o

  • I agree with "crazyanimal" a few weeks ago. You have a fabulous bird, yet entertaining with her outside, without a harness there are signficant risks. Take it from me, one who has lost her beautiful bird to just such a moment of fun and apparent safety.

    Never again!

    Lisa

  • I concur. :)

  • I bought an escape proof harness cause I don't clip wings, just doesn't seem right to take that away from a bird. Training taks a long time, I haven't got there yet.

  • Beaker looks beautifully cared for.. great bird

  • GO BEAKER GO BEAKER..........!!!

  • Please be careful on having your bird outside with no harness and not being clipped. Even if clipped, a gust of wind can pick your bird up and they can fly. You might not think he'd leave you but anything can spook them and they are gone. He is too darn adorable for you to lose him.... please be careful and teach him to wear a harness.

  • Thanks for the concern. I am well aware of the dangers and possibilities.

Mahana (the conure) has flown away twice on me and she was clipped and not outside. She slipped out the door and took off. Luckily I was able to somehow track her down. I have been extra cautious since.

  • hi, i have a question. i got a 8 week old hahn macaw and noticed his bottom beak is squished on one side and more developed on the other. Hence where the top and bottom beak are slightly different from the left and right side. Is this an abonormailty?

  • To be honest I'm not sure. Every animal is different so it could be normal. It could also be something that requires immediate attention. I would recommend locating the nearest avian vet for a check up. Like us, animals should also get annual exams.

Beaker has gone through times where his beak is not perfectly symmetrical. That can be normal. They are like fingernails so they change shape and size.

  • Great bird....My wife and I just picked a Hahns Macaw, she is a rescue bird. Does some talking.....a lot of talking, some clear some not. Your bird so healthy, what do you feed him. Bill and Val

  • Inside the cage they get Roudybush and ZuPreem AvianMaintenance FruitBlend.

Outside the cage they get dried fruit treats.

Once in a great while they get seed treats; usually inside foraging boxes.

Oh, I also sprinkle some vitamin/mineral powder on their food about once a week as well as mineral/calcium drops in their water every few days. I don't recall the brand right now.

  • what specific kind of parrot is that? he's really pretty

  • Hahn's Mini Macaw. He's the best. :)

  • "whatcha doing, whatcha doing, whazuuup" rofl Funny bird

  • haha i actually have a bird named squeaker-beaker :D

  • cool name :P

  • Beaker's beautiful! My little Hahn's, Olive, really got excited watching this video, and starting talking back to him...!

  • that is too cute

  • He's a beauty!

  • my hahns seems to be facinated at watching this lol , your bird is adorable

  • I posted a video response...Rocky really enjoys watching Beaker's videos!

  • 0:59 SUWOOP!

  • beautiful bird lovely color.

  • 1:24 he sounds like he is saying retrut RETRUT!

  • that is so freakin cute!!

i love the way he growled at you. that was awesome :D

  • Gorgeous Hahn's Macaw!! Your birds seem to be well loved and well taken care of :)

    Sav

  • Your Beaker is very beautiful and cute.

  • This is adorable I love Beakers weee voice so happy and cheerful .. Love it ! I have a timneh on utube .. birds rock !

  • Heee.. the first time you start saying 'kisses', he sounds like he's saying "whatever" ^__^ what a cute bird!

  • he sounds like squeeky shoes in an empty hallway LOLx

  • your Hahn's Beaker, is in beautiful feather condition. It looks like you are a fantastic parront!

  • oh ahaha you made a clever pun

  • My Hahns name is Beaker too! I named him that cause of the noise he made when he was a baby. My Beaker is almost 8, he says hello, hi, What, Stop that, he goes 'waka, waka' like fozzy bear & sort of growls? He has a lower voice though. He knows how to fly in a house but he'd freak & fly away if I took him outside. He's just too spastic for that! But he's a total luv bug & likes to dance. He really likes the song from Ciara 'Goodies'! Its so funny to watch him dance to it. He's actualy got rythm!

  • I have the same kind of bird !

how come he doesnt fly away? we wont take ours outside cuz we are afraid he will fly away

  • During that time he was clipped. He could not fly but had enough flight feathers to glide down. During the winter I let the wings grow out. Also, he really isn't one to just fly off. I still take precautions but he's (so far) been a good boy.

  • my hahns has a very sharp beak and even when she is testing(the little niblles they give) it breaks the skin and i need some ideas

  • Hahn's are nippy. They love to nip then run. It's like a game for them. Find a local avian vet and get a beak trim. That's the best thing to do. I've tried all kinds of chewing toys and things to keep his beak down but so far only the vet trip does the job.

  • thank you very much

  • No problem. One other thing I failed to mention is that you might be reinforcing negative behavior. I know it's difficult but if you react to the bite they will continue to do it because they get a reaction. All birds will bite, but mine have learned that I won't scream or yell or pull away so they lose interest. Now when they nip it's for fun and rarely hurts. If it does hurt it's because *I* did something wrong or didn't understand their body language.

  • thanks, aurora (my hahns) is learning fast for a new bird so theps help so these tips really help. I also have a caique. Aurora really gets agressive when you try to get her out of her cage or away from loki(caique) How do i get her to be less agressive during tose times?

  • Before I got Beaker I searched for and read everything I could online about Hahn's Macaws. There's a mountain of information out there that will help. However some of it simply comes with time as you both learn each other. You will begin to understand Aurora's body language and visa versa. It may sound strange but try to get into their head to view the world as they see it. Aurora may simply not want to come out at that time or it is defending its domain. Move slowly and quietly and confidently.

  • thanks

  • my hahns says whats up as well and come here instead of come on lol

  • seriously your beard is awesome

  • so cute- his voice sounds like when you rub on a balloon...

  • i love birds ^^

but not more than emily :D

  • You two are just adorable together. I had never heard of a hahn's Macaw before, lovely birds!

  • Higher voices (womans) teach parrots faster...and better pronunciation. This guys doing pretty good :)

  • my hahn's macaw wants to meet Beaker! He is trying to climb into the computer to get to him! LOL Great bird.

  • Wanted you to know that for fun, my Hahns and I watch youtube videos of other Hahns Macaw and she had a total REACTION to Beaker!! (and not other Hahns..only Beaker's video) Like she was into him...I dont know if Beaker is a a boy or girl but KITO really liked him! He looks like a baby...is he? So sweet!

  • I'll give that a try and see how he (yes, a male) responds. We often watch TV shows and play Wii games together among many other activities. Beaker will be about 5 years old this summer.

  • He is lovely and so cute. Be careful though I almost lost my Dudley hahns (see him on youtube) when he flew on a gust of wind while clipped - he landed in traffic! Thankfully I was able to scoop him up in time, that was the last time he went outside not in his travel cage. They can fly better than you realize.

  • Yes, tell me about it. My Conure had flown away on me twice! And she was clipped. She no longer goes outside; she's an indoor bird. I still love taking Beaker out and fortunately I live in a quiet non-busy area. I need to get a flight suit with leash.

  • My bird would have NO part of the leash and I understand that they could be dangerous (their bones are so fragile) so instead I just bought a small canary cage and take off the top and put him in when we go out, it's no trouble and he gets a great view.

  • So cute:D At 0:10 she's looking to the ground and it sounds like she's saying "What is that?"!!:D

  • Hes a lovely one^^

I've never seen such a parrot...what kind is he?

    He's so cute =)

  • Hahn's Macaw. A lot of the same personality of a regular sized Macaw but in a miniature body.

  • so beautiful bird

  • Is Beaker recall trained? Beaker looks to be fully flighted! If he/she is, please be extra careful that he/she doesn't get spooked and flies away. Beautiful Hahns, btw. And what a wonderful little talker! Our little girl is flighted, but not recall trained, so we don't let her out without being in her harness or travel carrier, but I just love these little jewels. Sarah has learned to "tickle" us.. hehe

  • No, he is not flighted. However he is due for a trim as he's able to almost fly horizontally. I also have a harness (which is more for Mahana since she is flighted).

  • Aww, I was worried, as only a birdy momma can be sometimes. LOL. Beaker is a beautiful little fella and I saved the barking video. It's my fave!

    Thank you!!!

  • I just love the hahns, my Bud is 15 now he has changed all the words he learned when he was a baby to his own vocabulary. lol they are so funny!

  • excellant talker, very clear too, how delightful :) how old is Beaker? my hahns macaw is only 16 weeks old now and is already starting to talk :)

  • True age is currently unknown. Believed to be 3 at time of purchase (2006.07.24) so he is around 4-ish.
