  • Social security is a giant forced ponzi scheme.

  • @oJKBo No, the wall street controlled GOP and democratic parties are a giant forced ponzi scheme.

We cannot let the tax cuts for the richest 1% expire, we cannot lower the $700 Billion defense budget, but SS, that will be 100% solvent until 2037, we can get rid of that easily?

They are ROBBING US BLIND. Are you so fucking stupid you can't see that?

  • @normalais Yeah the government is robbing us blind. They have been and able since fucking wilson created the income tax--which is simply theft. Our defense budget should be lowered, those who put into social security should be given all their money back and then we can end social security which is COMPLETELY unnecessary.

  • @normalais and hey you fucking retard there is a difference between liberal and neoliberal--true liberals (now called classical liberals or libertarians) founded this nation. It wasn't until the 19th and 20th centuries that the meaning of liberal changed. FDR is NOT liberal, TYT is NOT liberal, Barack Obama is NOT liberal--they are neoliberals who believe in large bureaucracies, big government, state welfare, high taxes, and high regulations

  • @oJKBo Go fuck yourself imbecile. FDR made US what it has been for the past 65 years: the #1 superpower in the world. Before FDR USA was a developing country with an economy that was going back to the stone age thanks to retarded conservatives like Herbert Hoover.

And now that retarded conservatives have been in charge for a while again, USA is going back to the stone age, again. Does not surprise me at all.

FDR made USA the #1 superpower by building up the world's strongest middle class

  • @normalais I'm the imbecile? half of FDR's new deal got shut down as unconstitutional. Congress doesn't even have the authority to regulate the economy. Commerce meant trade. Under FDR's Keynesian model prolonged the depression. Who says this? Lee Ohanian, Murray Rothbard, Walter Block, Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, Thomas Sowell, Walter E. Williams, etc. FDR was nothing but a price controlling central planner. He was a douchebag. Go suck a dick

  • @normalais and besides abolishing the gold standard which prevented runaway inflation Roosevelt instituted a fiat currency. and with EO 6102 he forced people to bring the government their gold

  • @oJKBo Are you conservatives born retarded or do you turn that way after you have your brain replaced with fox news?

Roosevelt? WTF does Roosevelt have to do with today? After Roosevelt USA became the #1 superpower in the world, with the strongest middle class the world has ever seen. And that's a fact. No matter how much your right wing brainwashing propaganda might try to spin it.

After 30 years of Reaganomics USA is collapsing. That's also a fact, not matter how you try to spin it

  • @normalais Haha yeah ive gotta be conservative. Not a chance i could be a TRUE liberal. First off what the fuck do i have to do with a man that cuts taxes and increases spending? Conservatives are as bad as you fake liberals who oppose true liberty. 'Reaganomics' isnt destroying this nation you fuck. Its goddamn 'liberals' like obama. You thought bush was bad think again. Now we got a retard whos spending MORE than bush. You don't represent one iota of true liberty.

  • @normalais you love taking and giving, keeping the welfare state, most of all you love force. True liberty can only come when the government separates itself from the economy. A true free market is the ONLY free and moral economic system. And we havent had that in a long goddamn time. Dont even try to deny the fact that you oppose force--you love it. You force people to pay their employees a certain amount, you force people to give a certain amount of their income to others--to be the means for

  • @oJKBo This country was destroyed loooong before Obama even decided to run for office. YOu're just so dumb you don't see that. And I love how you support the corporate dictatorship that is Reaganomics but claim not to be a conservative.

There is no freedom here anymore. This country is run by lobbyists and special interests. And they have brainwashed clowns like you to the point that you believe it means "freedom" and anything else is communism.

    You're pathetic

  • @normalais I support Reaganomics all of a sudden? Hahaha the difference is between freedom and non freedom. We live in a country where you can't even roll up a joint. What's pathetic is how you don't understand the difference between neoliberals--Obama, TYT, etc. and true liberals like libertarians, the founding fathers, Ron Paul, Adam Smith, Bastiat, von Mises, Hayek, Friedman, Paine, de Tocqueville, Rand, Hoppe, and Paterson. All would be disgusted over the hijacking of the word liberal

  • @oJKBo I do understand the difference. I understand that people like Ron Paul are fucking crazy. Freedom? Oh yeah not having a Department of Education will make us very "free". LMAO

And yes TYT represents the real liberals, not you loonies.

  • @normalais First, the Federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in school curricula and the DoE is a complete waste of money. Anything else Mr. Paul is 'wrong' about? And no, TYT does not represent true liberalism. LIBERALISM had its founding in people like John Locke and other enlightenment writers--all of which proposed incredibly free markets and individual freedoms. Ron Paul is libertarian conservative so he actually isnt liberal-opposes abortion

  • @oJKBo LMAO you're all fucking crazy

  • @normalais So you're saying, Adam Smith, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, John Stuart Mill, Ayn Rand, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Milton Friedman, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, James Madison--who opposed pure democracy as with all these people, David Ricardo, and I are all 'fucking crazy'

  • @oJKBo You have nothing in common with people like Thomas Jefferson you fucking crazy lunatic. The fact that you think you represent what those people represented just shows how demented you are.

  • @normalais Haha yeah except Thomas Jefferson was influenced by most of those true liberals, the books of whom influenced my own views on economics.

  • @normalais whereas you still haven't admitted that there are two types of liberalism, the second and latter type is the one you fit in.

  • @oJKBo Hey, whatever you say crazy person. There are as many types of liberalism and everything else as your crazy little mind can imagine. All I know is I'm voting to keep crazy fuckers like you the fuck out of government.

  • @normalais I'm being rational retard. There are only 2 types of liberalism, modern and classical. You are modern and I am classical. Modern liberalism began around the great depression and came from classical liberalism began in Europe during the enlightenment period. Observe, in politics, that the term extremism has become a synonym of "evil," regardless of the content of the issue (the evil is not what you are extreme about, but that you are "extreme"—i.e., consistent

  • @oJKBo Liberalism does not support the concentration of money in the hands of a few people, because, according to liberalism, that is a threat to the economy and democracy.

People like you support a corporate dictatorship. You support handing all of our freedoms over to a few greedy CEOs, and you're silly enough to believe that it means "freedom" and makes you "like Thomas Jefferson".

  • @normalais haha liberalism puts its support behind a republic. Pure democracy is much more of a threat than corporate CEO's. Actually i support the same freedoms for everybody, and money in the hands of a few people isn't necessarily bad for the economy. Bill Gates is filthy rich does that make him evil? no because his company produced a highly valued product that many people wanted. Their wealth is accumulated through providing good services. So youre saying people who get rich by helping

  • @oJKBo haha wow you're pretty dumb. You have no clue what I'm even talking about, or what liberalism means. Have fun with your failed conservative Reaganomics ideology. It is destroying America, I hope you're happy.

I don't care anymore, I just moved to Germany. They have all the things you hate so much: taxes, extremely powerful unions, strong government regulation, universal health care, and they are doing AWESOME. Much better than USA

  • @normalais you're right i don't know what you're talking about. Because you're not talking about liberalism. And I'm stupid? You keep stating I'm in love with Reaganomics and am a conservative even though im a fucking classical liberal and reagan dramatically increased the size of government. Yes i'm against taxes(legal theft), unions(who control the democratic party), regulation(which destroys competition and small business), and universal healthcare(where one pays for others healthcare

  • @oJKBo You're hilarious. Thanks for a good laugh! Have fun watching your country fail because of people like you

  • @normalais Haha The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool. My country isn't under the power of constitutionalists or libertarians so suck my d.

  • @oJKBo Your country very quickly is turning into a shit hole like Russia, where a few billionaires and banks control everything, and everyone else is their slave.

If you don't wake up, the American middle class will disappear soon, and with it will go the greatness of America.

And I really do not believe you will wake up. You're too stupid. So good luck with that, hahahaha. I'll be in Germany laughing my ass off.

  • @normalais And who is in charge of the country? People who have very different views than I. Congratulations you just confirmed that the US is going downhill without leaders who share a classical liberal ideology. By the way Germany and most European countries arent as open to free speech as the US. In Germany it is illegal to distribute Nazi literature

  • @oJKBo umm no people like you are in charge of the country. Or more like: Wall Street and special interests are in charge, but they have managed to brainwash people like you into believing that giving all power to them means freedom. Which means you have voluntarilly turned your country into a corporate dictatorship.

Have fun watching the demise of America.

And Germany is way ahead of US in everything I can think off, including free speech.

  • @normalais us are evil. Greed is a synonym of selfishness--neither of which are evil. Selfishness is concern for one's own interests. Only ethics teaches us whether such is good or bad

  • @normalais And many corporations can get so big because government passes laws and regulations destroy competition

  • @normalais Please learn the difference between modern liberalism and classical liberalism/libertarianism--the first liberalism

  • @normalais Another man's end. You now force people to buy health insurance. You want to force people to subsidize the healthcare of others. You put a gun to peoples heads and make them give you a high percentage of their income. You liberals are just as bad as those who oppose the right to ingest what one wants and to marry whomever one wants. You are no better than they. So shut the FUCK UP.

  • social sercurity is a complete failure, just compare social security to a private savings lets say a 401k. In Social Security your basiclly in a ponzi scheme you pay for retirees. you cannot make hardship withdraws, don't get company employment match on your deposits, you can't get decide how much of your paycheck is withheld, and you can't get a loan from it and you can;t decide how you invest your money. While all these in a 401k you can. And the returns on 401ks are highers,

  • Shoot I didn't know how it worked either.

  • I don't understand how SS is losing money, and why is SS so controversial?....SS is essentially like putting money in the bank. Whatever you put in should be there when you're ready to take it out, maybe a little more with interest. It's very simple. Why do a lot of conservatives hate it? Whenever I pay a SS tax, I look at it like I'm making a deposit to the bank.

  • @peking18 SS is "losing" money because ever since Reagan gave huge tax cuts to the richest people in this country, every president since then has tried to make up the difference in budget by taking from SS. They are literally robbing us and handing our money over to the richest 1% who control everyting- the media, government, everything.

    This country is done.

  • The host of this looks like a partisan who has chosen a side. He laughs at other Americans and celebrates taking them down. Listen to his tone, see the way he smirks and laughs through the debate he is having (with himself of course so his ability to be challenged can never be tested). If he showed more decorum, he may be more productive in getting his points across. There are good points he wants to make, but they get lost because of his obvious lack of objectivity.

  • He knew that on second grade? doesnt he know that s how ponzi schemes work?

  • This guy doesn't know much about Social Security. It is need of reform and it is in a lot of trouble. The surpluses that the fund currently has will start disapearing when the baby boomers retire. This man's ignorance is surprising.

  • well its not even real news so what do you expect? This guy is nothing more than a gossip blogger for liberals.

  • Are you retarded... or just poorly misinformed?

Social Security gets into trouble since the government keeps using money from it to fund wars as it did in the Bush Era, or to fund other programs.

There is nothing wrong with Social Security outside of the govt literally cyphining funds from it

  • Right, part of the problem is the gov't taking the money out and basically leaving IOU's in the trust fund. However, even if the funds were there they would have to start drawing on them in 2041. Did you read any of the Social Security Trustees Report ? If not, I would recommend it. I am also curious were you're getting your information.

  • ok here we go, palin and mccain both lie nonstop. i mean cmon even if all u watch is mainstream media you can tell that. Well mccain might really be senile i cant really tell, he always has the goofy grin like he doesnt know whats goin on. and i also heard palin believes in creationism and doesnt think theres anything wrong with incest.;) theres ur pick all you inbred hicks

  • The only person (or people) that seem to not understand how the Social Security works are the Young Turks. From the way they presented (I could be wrong, I didn't hear McCain's comment) it seems McCain wants to privatize social security, which shows that he does understand how it works.

  • Unfortunately McCain did say it - actually a couple of times- it's obviously a gaff, so the commentator is correct in pointing it out (it's been criticized elsewhere - DNC, Huffington Post, Mother Jones.)

He seems to have clarified the statement later - Young workers, he said, "are paying into a system that they won't receive benefits from on the PRESENT TRACK that it's on. That's the point. I don't think it's fair. I think it's terrible."

  • McCain obviously knows how social security works, it was just a misstatement!!

He was criticized (see e.g., USA Today 7/10/08; Huffington Post 7/9/08) and he corrected it later in statements made in Ohio!

Note - McCain has been adamant that he does NOT want to "privatize" social security.

  • Oh, thanks for explaining.

  • usa today is not a credible news source outside redstates

  • Correction:

You're missing the point. The clip of McCain's statement implies that he doesn't understand basic accounting concepts - not whether the program is "good" or whether the program is "broken" (which is a separate debate).

You have to know that obligations like social security are not funded BUT are on a "pay as you go" basis.

Hence the commentator's point: How can it suddenly be a "disgrace" when it has functioned on this basis for over 70yrs, providing for generations of retirees?

  • You're missing the point. The clip of McCain's statement implies that he doesn't understand basic accounting concepts - not whether the program is "good" or whether the program is "broken" (which is a separate debate). You have to know that obligations like social security and defined benefit pensions are not funded on a "pay as you go" basis.

  • You are a complete ass you young jerk - are you the only person who doesn't know that soc securirty is broken - broken by the government that B.Hussein Obama wants to give over health care to

  • your an idiot, theres no way to respond to people who have no clue what theyre talking about.

  • again like a typical republican u try and throw around some big words and act like you know what your talkin about hoping the other person doesnt, and dont correct my error on a damn blog again. it just makes u look like a nerd, im not turning this into my english professor.

back to the point though, you actually think there's an overextension of benefits? that jus proves ur ignorance. countless ppl get fked over by SS, and if u think it is now, wait til the babyboomers get old enough:)moron

  • Iof course meant nationalizing not privatizing

  • privatizing things means moving them to companies.. you privatize it, you take the GOVERNMENT OUT OF THE EQUATION, offer service, and creates JOBS

  • Well, if it's broke then fix it. It's a very simple concept. Deposit money in the system so you can make a withdrawal later when you need it. If you don't like it, then maybe you should be able to opt out.

  • blah...This reporting is as bad as mainstream media. Here is McCain on SSC(ontheissues(dot)org/Economic/John_McCain_Social_Security.htm)

Social Security was implemented as a response to the massive poverty rates among seniors due to the Great Depression and it worked. But just to let you all know, the Great Depression is over. Anyway the fact is, soon we will have more retirees than payees hence the main problem with SS.

  • The way I wrote the above may appear that McCain said "Social Security was..." Those are my words ;-O. I just wanted to source the site where you can see for yourself what McCain says. Anyway don't forget to replace the (dot) with a period for the correct URL.

  • " They woukd have jumped down his throught and out his ass" LMAO!!!!

The press is McCains base...they don't report on stuff like this and all of his other gaffes and misteps

  • That is not how it should work. Social security deductions should go into a trust fund for later on in life. The previous generation has no right to my property or the fruits of my labor.

  • I sure hope McCain isn't that ignorant. I'll assume he grossly misspoke his position. Even so, I would love to challenge Congresspeople of both parties to take a quiz, without preparation, on Constitution law and basic American principles. There are so many occasions where they seem woefully ignorant of both.

And I will agree that SS is a disgrace....the way it has been plundered by Congress over the years. With over 100 million eligible Americans, how do we end up with such pathetic losers.

  • For all the Ralph Nader supporters, I wonder this: I know Obama isn't the candidate for change we all thought he would be, but he's going to bring a lot of changes, I'm sure!! I know he's pandering to Israel and Nader would make a good president! But if we punish Obama by voting for Nader, wouldn't we be punishing ourselves!! I know lesser of two evils isn't a great scenario, but it's better than voting for the good candidate and helping electing this moron!!

    VOTE OBAMA!! :)

  • Increase the retirement age? Are you f*ng kidding me? Yeah, people should work until they're 75...that's insane. Increase the CAP. Reagan slashed taxes on the rich in the 80's, doubled the social security tax and went on to plunder the social security trust fund. People leave that part out and just blame the baby boomers which is very misleading, as if the system is inherently flawed rather than blaming flawed politicians who screwed a good system. Again, raise the cap.

  • Is McCain cashing HIS social security? If he believes it's such a disgrace, he should make a statement and rip up his checks.

  • social security is failing, if you had an elementary education and knew of our population demographics it would seem pretty obvious

  • Yeah the problem is too many people retiring, people living longer, not enough young workers to support it... increase the retirement age

  • Wow, this is the first video by The Young Turks where I TOTALLY disagree with the commentary. The vast majority of people I know believe Social Security will inevitably go broke as baby boomers age. They believe the Social Security fund that once existed has been robbed. They believe young workers will not receive Social Security benefits when they reach retirement age.

John McCain may not be articulate in this case, but he is right. It is a disgrace. I will vote for Obama...but still.

  • I couldn't agree more. I'm a dem, but SS is disgraceful. The idea itself was once a good idea. Unfortunately corruption and the Republican "let the market decide" attitude has spoiled it. I find it disgraceful that I am a 23 year old American below the poverty line with a B.B.A. living with my parents. Much of my paycheck contributes to SS money which I will never see; money to pay retired ppl who were so fortunate as to grow up in an era where the drive to work hard resulted in wealth.

  • I don't know who is more stupid, Social Security or this guy talking about politics.

  • the fact that americans arent outside the whitehouse with pitchforks amazes me. i guess thats what the rest of the world calls you ameri-crazies! but you probably havent heard anything about that either.

  • ahahah ahahahah ahahah ahhaa ha hhaha how could you be so unintelligent and believe what this guy said, was this turks audience base born in a barn or what.

  • I couldn't agree more with you. I wish more people would take the time to study the issues before they comment on them.

  • Social Security is a disgrace because the Congress has expanded the benefits and given them to those who have NEVER paid in a dime. It is going broke because there are not enough people working to support the number of people receiving it or will receive it.

  • Doctors said that when McCain was in prison it added something like 10 yrs to his life.

    He's old.

He can't remember what he believes in.

He can't even recall what he said yesterday.

    GIVE HIM A BREAK!

  • And that's a reason to vote him into office? To run the country?

That's all the more reason he should simply retire and live the rest of his life in this delirium.

  • ahahahah ahah you must be very unintelligent if you believed what this retard said.

  • wow i used to only watch Fox News

(because i thought it was fair to both sides)

but apparently i ought to watch a lot more

    different sources to compare them.

  • "You bring that shit up about hollywood midjets again, or anything like that, and we will make sure your name is total dirt"

Ooooooh, tough guy. Shitting your pants over people talking about midgets and trying to tell other people how they should run their program, as if you're qualified to do that. Fucking idiot.

  • Difference between McCain and Bush. McCain fought in vietnam thats about it.

  • Dear Cenk,

Ponzi schemes are disgraces and they ALWAYS collapse.

  • He (TYT) is totally LOST on this one, totally. Social Security has been the pariah of our time, bilked, robbed and bankrupted by our government who was entrusted to oversee this 'trust' fund.

  • he is lost on everything.

  • carlosyhector is an idiot. Show don't just say he is lost. Prove it with facts and quotations.

  • Hmmm I've liked some of his stuff, mainly the Ron Paul bits.

  • Jeez, maybe there should be some sort of written exam before someone can run for president.

  • how on earth ron paul lost to this ill-informed creature is beyond me.

  • Two words: Republican establishment. McCain came closer -- They've co-opted him now anyway. Think they could have co-opted Paul?

  • no, I understand, I hate the system. I really just wish that this was less of a popularity contest and more of actually choosing the person who will uphold the constitution better. since that's kind of their job.

  • Amen to that.

  • People are ill-informed morons.

  • The media is so f'ed up

  • John McCain is a fucking moron. And so is anyone who would vote for him.

  • its a Ponzi scheme

  • Reagan broke social security in the 80's when he spent hundreds of billions of dollars from the social security trust fund. No president since, including Clinton, has bothered to fix that. But overall while both parties let this happen, it's primarily a Republican created issue. And yes, a strong majority of Americans DO like social security and want it to continue AND they do NOT want it to be privatized according to all polls.

  • Encyclopeteia: Thanks for making this point. It is not supposed to be a Ponzi scheme but Reagan made it that way.

  • Well when so many live like sheep. And only have an attention span of 60 seconds. And the news is controlled. Thats what you get. The blame of our fall is on all of us is the american people. A sleep at the wheel.

  • More and More McCain is looking like Bush, an incompetent poop. But about the Media, the Rush and Hannity have convinced Americans that anything said about conservatives ate a part of the liberal slant and should be discredited. The media is scared of Fox and right wing pundits. Bottom line

  • McCain: Like Bush With Twice The Suppressed Anger.

  • The reason he says stuff like this is because the average American doesn't understand the problems with America so he says a random thing like "The social security needs to be fixed!" and then everyone claps and McCain is a hero even though it doesn't make any sense.

  • Just think how bad things would be if Social Security had been privatized and all our money had been put in the stock market! McCain is an idiot.

  • wow this "young turk" should study economics first before he gives his opinion. what an idiot

  • SaxyJaymez: Thanks for clarifying that with your great writing, Now what makes you an expert and Cenk and idiot? You are fresh out of college and you have all the answers? I bet you think you have all the answers but you don't even understand how little you really understand. You have yet to recognize how unprepared your university econ classes and profs have left you.

  • id like to know exactly who it is that thinks social security is one of the most successful programs in our countries history. im certain that its been an issue in every election since i was born ive heard every candidate in the last 26 years talk about social security reform

  • the main problem with social security is the baby boomers which makes the program run a defecit. other than that(and the shitty changes bush made) it is a sucesful program.

  • Ok Turks, definitely you dont know much about social security and retirement funds. Now I know why your intelligence dont help you to have a good candidate choice, after whining about Obama betrayal and lies in order to deceive naive liberals and you are still voting for him.

  • Whats the other option? McCain?

  • This should be breaking news.

  • Nobody covers McCain's screw ups because no one cares about him. Any story about President Obama will sell, but John McCain would have to molest his children to get any attention from the media.

  • LMAO....yeah, John McCain sex tape!!

  • If the dems lose they almost deserve it. They must realize that the media is not going to address the McCain issues and they have to do a better job to get that information out. They allow themselves to get punked regularly, and then take it. When will they learn that if a bully pushes you, you have to push back. Instead, it seems as if all we can do is get blasted with lies. Please dont rely on the American people knowing better. Thats what got us four years of being bushed.

  • mccain is a fuckin' joke. i can't wait untill the presidential debates. then he'll be exposed for the idiot he really is.

  • I heard that yesterday about John McCain.. Yeah, that's pretty messed up.

Oddly SSI is doing well, but people are taking money out of it.

  • Republicans have wanted to kill Social Security since it's inception. McCain has supported 'privitazing' as a way to kill the program, and now McCain refuses to use the word privatize, but he is still committed to killing it.

  • Hilarious! "how can you be 71 years old and you've been in the senate for 123 years or however long you've been there..." PRICELESS.

  • I think that the reason why the media has not covered these McCain "gaffs" is because they dont expect that much from mccain in the first place and therefore its no surprise that he is screwing up and therefore not newsworthy?

  • Hmm. Who does that remind me of... Oh yeah, GWB does the same act.

  • This is yet again proof of the shambolic state of the American media... God help those who live in a 'democracy' where politicians are given such an easy ride by the media.

  • Your not kidding, Everyone needs to tell everyone about RON PAUL! That guy is the best president that the USA could ever see.

  • Dude, I can't wait until next month for the GOP Convention!! Ron Paul supporters are going to mess them over!! Bro...there has to be a revolt in the GOP party!! Same with the Democratic Party....they have to grow some balls!!

  • The country is already in debt.

  • into any more imposibble debt

  • Ive seen them talk about this story on MSM a few times and they never even mention that social security has always worked that way. Like all the stories done online Ive seen have keyed in on it. And to me it seems like an important part of the analogy.

  • Dems should remind him that the only reason that there's any disgrace is because the Reps are dipping in to that "lockbox" Gore was talking about and the Reps and MSM mocked him so much about.

  • He's a dipshit :-p

  • not even close....hes the second coming of bush maybe worse

  • "i continue to tell you, cuz it continues to be true"

    lmao

  • He is saying this because he has a net worth $40.4 Million Dollars. He doesn't need to draw a check. Face it; McCain is not down with our military, he is not down with the American people, he is definitely not down with everything. So why are there dumb asses voting for him?

They just need to go ahead and just give Obama the presidency.

  • first!

  • Disaster capitalism.

  • what do you mean by that?

  • It's rather complicated but fascinating, I recommend the book 'Disaster Capitalism' by Naomi Klein.

Essentially its making money off of misery, it helps explain the past eight years a lot more clearly.
