im having trouble my dog will not follow the llure and its her faverite treat she keeps staying in the sit down position but if i move the treat away and out of reach she just sits there ... what do i do???????????
My issue with my german shepherd is this.Im away from home a lot cause of studies and stuff and i train him whenever im home. That is about every 2 weeks for a period of 3 to 4 days.My dog has learned sit down and stand but he doesnt do it whenever i tell him to.Meaning.When we are home and i say "sit" if i have a food lure he will at once.If i dont he might or might not but when we are outside he just doesnt listen to me.Only on food lures .Any suggestions on that?
I love your training videos! :) You really break down all the steps so they are easy to figure out and I love how you explain not just the "how to" in your vids, but the "why" as well. I also learned that petting and verbal praise while giving the treat makes the praise and petting much more valuable to the dog and it's much easier to ween them from the treats if you combine with petting and verbal praise. :) Thanks for your awesome vids!
sir, been watching your vids since the day i got my malinois. his turning 3months now this 28. all he knows is sit. i try this method but seems he will not down and stand. its my 1st time to train a dog.
Hey there, Thanks soooo much for sharing your videos.
I've trawled the net for many ideas concerning dog training. Out of all I have tried, yours are the most lucid and concise. I admire your sincerity and dedication very much. I want to thank you truly and sincerely from my heart.
Wow thanks dude, i thought this was a hard work, but today i taught sit down to my german shepherd (is 5 years old) and he learned it fast, i suscribed to ur channel :D
You have an advantage in a way cos u got a German shepherd :P lol my Aussie is super smart she basically taught everything but the basics like sit and lay down to her self she is awesome and of corse we had to teacher her to give hugs :P
@Rienei mm there's a video where kind introduces you how to do that with eye contact=regard and then the dog will automatically can related but i would recommend you to get into his channel and look for it because i don't remember
Hi Tab, your videos are great. I have two Aussie. The boy walks great on the leash, but the girl does not. I'm just starting to work with her in the apartment ( we don't have a yard at the moment). How long should I work with her inside before I try to move the training outside with distractions?
WAAAaaaaay too much talking, especially at the beginning. Videos are for showing, doing, demonstrating -- not giving long lectures. Otherwise good video on very basic positive training techniques.

Great video.(; I've been getting more serious about clicker training trick and I love all your tutorlials. Could you make a tutorial on how to teach your dog to blow bubbles? I've been trying to work on that trick lately and my pups having issues.
I have a 5 month old puppy, (GSD) and she hates going in the crate, understandingly. But I'm 13, so I have school. And my dad works and my bro has school too, and my cat and puppy HATE each other so at night my puppy must go in the crate. How exactly do u teach the stand with luring...( how do you make ur dog stand with ur treats?..) thks ur vids are great btw. Hope one day choke chains will vanish.
U know what, this vid is great, you are showing excellent demonstrations of what you are performing, but..
It isn't fair, reason being is because you are making it seem so insanely easy using a dog, that is already 100% trained and know all your lure motions, for example that multi-command line you performed, I know actual human kids that couldn't react that fast. Most people that are looking at your vids, are at the beginner stages, when the dogs is stubbon, we need to see what to do then.
@Ty33Budd In this video you can see that solea is just learning this lure, at the begining of this video, that's why she's having hard time sitting and going into a down position, later on part 3 she is responding better when verbal commands were add. Trust me it works I have a male german shepherd , and he is doing great!!! I started training him my self After lerning from tab. I only had my dog for a mouth now and he knows sit, down , and stand. Multi command part was not the star point
i have a problem.. by 9 week old puppy is always lazy and tired.. and when hes active and up i try to train him.. but he just lies down.. i sorta trained him how to sit with the clicker but i don't think he understands what it means yet.. should i start all over again?

Last month in May i send my dog in a training center for a month. i dn't know wat happen wen i went to bring him back i saw he lose 4Lbs weight, a lots his hair was falling and still his hair alots falling & he is not gaining his weight, he is 10months but luks like wen he was 7months old. Before to go training center he was very healthy, i never try to ask his trainner abt dis.Plz give me any ..

Awesome videos. Great co-star! I'm so happy this channel exists! Great content that truly considers how a dog learns naturally. I'm a fan of positive reinforcement. I'm just wondering how often you recommend training with your dog?

hey i have a female cocker spaniel. she is very small just a month and 18 days. i have taught her to sit. i wanted to ask if it is normal that she bites a lot after walks. wat are suitable toys for her and maily HOW TO POTTY TRAIN HER? pls explain in detail cos no idea seems to work. she doesnt learn that at all. PLS HELP
Hi tab! I have a problem teaching my 4 years old dachshund to lie down. I used a chair while teaching him, but now every time a I say down he would go under a chair. Do you know how to fix this?
tab awesome vids man, so what in your videos will you say is the first step into training a 4month old puppy? I have maltese which i think she doesn't even know her name yet since she doesn't look at me when i call her.
Should i start with the eye contact or the clicker stuff?
I'm a huge fan of your videos for I also believe in positive training. I wonder if you have made a potty training video with puppies. A lot of people rub their pup's noses into the urine and scold them which is not good training. I prefer the pee-pad methods and slowly removing one from the room per day and praising the pup when they potty outside. What do you recommend?
great effort that u do here...i love your way. .good job....i wish i can tech my 3 months germen shepherd like this but when it comes to train it became very lazy she even doesn't show interest in food...any advices? thanks a lot..
I love your videos and learned a ton from watching you over the past few months. Just a note, your dog seems to be struggling to stand on this floor, and I think that a mat will help her a lot, so that she doesn't hurt her joints. I have a GSD, who is 4 months old and a big boy, so I worry about things like that. Hope to see more of your vids soon. Thanks again.
My 3 month old knows sit, down, speak, leave it, and we are working on roll over. For some reason the "down" command causes him to begin to bark excitedly.
Wondering how to discourage these barks before performance?
Also I can't seem to get the roll over from a lure to a hand signal?
Jst found ur channel - making my way through ur vids!
Wow, your dog is awesome! I'm hoping my 8month German Shepherd will one day be as keen to please as urs is!
I've been clicker training him for ages, but he doesn't do things as quickly and enthusiastically as your dog - eg. if I say sit, he will sit but not immediately and also he seems to 'ignore' me a lot when we're outside the house, or in the garden and he doesn't pay the slightest bit of attention to the clicker outside. Any advice?
@tab289 hi can i ask you something? i have a 2 years old japanese spits and a 4 months golden retriever but my golden is always jealous when i petting my japanese spits my golden always bite the japanese spit and am petting the golden too what should i do?
hey tab great videos, your dog is awesome and you have a really good bond with her. my dog is around 7-8 and i wish i started training him sooner but he doesn't seem to want to learn and is all in it for the food when i train him, any advice?
@ninja0wnzy0u It's great that he is 'in it for the food'. That's a bonus (especially in the early stages). Keep working at it and as you spend more time together, it will change!
@aijinxo right exactly when the dog performs the trick. For example if the dog sat, you would click right when the dog's butt hit the floor. For down, right when the dogs mody hits the floor. For eye contact, the split second the dog looks at you. For shake paw when the paw goes right into your hand. Another example for a human would me when we shake hands. right when we make contact with the other hand that is where the "right time" is... if that makes sense..
@aijinxo If you are talking about progressing through the different 'steps', the right time is when the dog fully understands a criteria, and able to perform correctly 100% of the time.
@tab289 so then how long would something like that take? cuz when im workin with her right, she gets it shell do it for that day and then the next day its like her brain went into a clean slate and forgot EVERYTHING and so i hafta repeat from the begining, and then durin non-trainin times, she refuses to even listen to what i say and she wont even sit or anything unless i have food in my hands...
Hi Tab! I was wondering... what treats do you use?... I would use Markies but are they too big to begin with? Does someone know? By the way, good advice!
Hi tab, your videos are very inspirational and informative. You are the best on Youtube! Just a quick question. I have 10mths old labrador (dog) and he is beautifully obedient at home. We are now focusing on 'outside' obedience, but the progress is very slow compared to when home which I expected. Could tell me how long it take to train dog to be 100% reliable outside based on your experience? I want to know how long the journey is going to be;) thanks a lot and keep doing what you do!
@driendysky It depends on a lot of things. How often you work with your dog, how many different things you try to teach him, how consistent you are. Nothing is ever 100% - but by practicing and preparing for as many scenarios as possible, we can get pretty close.
@tab289 I work with my dog pretty much every day and we enjoy it both. As I am the only one training the dog and all my family knows what behaviour I want from the dog we are all pretty consistent. For How long did you teach your dog before she became so obedient even outside. Thanks!
i have 1 question, how do you get your dog to focus on you? (i dont have one yet but i do right down your answers =)) when you sit down when you first started training with her did you give her a few treats so she knew it would be a fun time or did she just do it natualy and sit and watch you as you train her, thanks alot =)
I always try to use positive enforcement when training my dog but how do you get your dog to stop a behavior immediately without saying no? for example, i have a 10 month old gsd who has started playbiting whenever I sit on the ground and the only way I could get him to stop is to say no, even then it doesn't always work. Any suggestions?
@tttemm I am not an expert, but this has worked with my puppy(Siberian husky).
Occupie him with another toy as soon as he finds interest in biting your hands. Keep saying "no" if he bites you, or even try to say "auuu you're hurting me".
you can also grab his cheeks firmly, look him deep into the eyes and say "No, no biting".
This guy is all about positive reinforcement, and i believe he has great knowledge. But some cases are just a bit different, and should be treated this way
HI, we´ve been following your videos for a while and have noticed that when ever you teach your dog something, he focuses on you. Ours is a 18 month old German Shepperd. At the moment we're teaching him to heel, but even in the garden without distractions, he doesn't seem to look at us or focus. Would it be more important to teach him eyecontact first, or is it really the position of the treat that does it? It's the first time now we use the clicker.
@thailanddoggy Teaching a dog eye contact can be very useful, as it opens up the gate to tell the dog when you want him to learn/do something.
This can be done by having him on a sit command. Make him focus on a treat, and move it towards your face to you make eye contact with your dog. when does this consistently, you can add a "contact" sound like ""sss" or a click sound with your mouth. remember = sucees = treat
This way your dog will know, whenever you say this sound, you want contact
@Besharm to teach your dog not to bite your gloves, is like when you teach him not to bite your skin.
If all else fails, grab him by the cheeks and tell him "no biting". Make sure to have eyecontact with him.
If you've taught your dog "leave it", this command should also work on your gloves. Simply tell your dog to "leave it", so he knows gloves are a "no no" ^_^
Thank u so much for this video. My Question is how do,I get my 5month old puppy to poop outside again.she poop outside wen she was like 2 / 3months. she dnt want to poop outside anymore it driving me crazy, help me!!!

Ty33Budd 8 months ago
@Ty33Budd In this video you can see that solea is just learning this lure, at the begining of this video, that's why she's having hard time sitting and going into a down position, later on part 3 she is responding better when verbal commands were add. Trust me it works I have a male german shepherd , and he is doing great!!! I started training him my self After lerning from tab. I only had my dog for a mouth now and he knows sit, down , and stand. Multi command part was not the star point

@Tab,
Roll over is coming along fine now.
Still have the barking problem.
One other thing I have noticed is if I get the treats out. Draven will start doing his tricks one after the other before I command. Is that normal?
DukeCitgo1 11 months ago
You should do a video on how to teach a dog how to swim. I think that would help a lot of people out.

tab awesome vids man, so what in your videos will you say is the first step into training a 4month old puppy? I have maltese which i think she doesn't even know her name yet since she doesn't look at me when i call her.
Should i start with the eye contact or the clicker stuff?

I'm a huge fan of your videos for I also believe in positive training. I wonder if you have made a potty training video with puppies. A lot of people rub their pup's noses into the urine and scold them which is not good training. I prefer the pee-pad methods and slowly removing one from the room per day and praising the pup when they potty outside. What do you recommend?

I love your videos and learned a ton from watching you over the past few months. Just a note, your dog seems to be struggling to stand on this floor, and I think that a mat will help her a lot, so that she doesn't hurt her joints. I have a GSD, who is 4 months old and a big boy, so I worry about things like that. Hope to see more of your vids soon. Thanks again.

Tab,
My 3 month old knows sit, down, speak, leave it, and we are working on roll over.

Any advice?

@xxannabel83 I have a few videos on 'distractions', 'attention', and other exercises that build on this. It's also a great idea to teach some tricks.

hey tab great videos, your dog is awesome and you have a really good bond with her. my dog is around 7-8 and i wish i started training him sooner but he doesn't seem to want to learn and is all in it for the food when i train him, any advice?
ninja0wnzy0u 1 year ago
@ninja0wnzy0u It's great that he is 'in it for the food'. That's a bonus (especially in the early stages). Keep working at it and as you spend more time together, it will change!
tab289 1 year ago
hey, so when would u say is the "right time"
you kept saying when its the right time u can do this or that, but when?
aijinxo 1 year ago
@aijinxo right exactly when the dog performs the trick. For example if the dog sat, you would click right when the dog's butt hit the floor. For down, right when the dogs mody hits the floor. For eye contact, the split second the dog looks at you. For shake paw when the paw goes right into your hand. Another example for a human would me when we shake hands. right when we make contact with the other hand that is where the "right time" is... if that makes sense..
TheWigglebutt 1 year ago
@aijinxo If you are talking about progressing through the different 'steps', the right time is when the dog fully understands a criteria, and able to perform correctly 100% of the time.
tab289 1 year ago
@tab289 so then how long would something like that take? cuz when im workin with her right, she gets it shell do it for that day and then the next day its like her brain went into a clean slate and forgot EVERYTHING and so i hafta repeat from the begining, and then durin non-trainin times, she refuses to even listen to what i say and she wont even sit or anything unless i have food in my hands...

tab289 1 year ago
Hi tab, your videos are very inspirational and informative. You are the best on Youtube! Just a quick question. I have 10mths old labrador (dog) and he is beautifully obedient at home. We are now focusing on 'outside' obedience, but the progress is very slow compared to when home which I expected. Could tell me how long it take to train dog to be 100% reliable outside based on your experience? I want to know how long the journey is going to be;) thanks a lot and keep doing what you do!
driendysky 1 year ago
@driendysky It depends on a lot of things. How often you work with your dog, how many different things you try to teach him, how consistent you are. Nothing is ever 100% - but by practicing and preparing for as many scenarios as possible, we can get pretty close.
tab289 1 year ago
@tab289 I work with my dog pretty much every day and we enjoy it both. As I am the only one training the dog and all my family knows what behaviour I want from the dog we are all pretty consistent. For How long did you teach your dog before she became so obedient even outside. Thanks!
driendysky 1 year ago
i have 1 question, how do you get your dog to focus on you? (i dont have one yet but i do right down your answers =)) when you sit down when you first started training with her did you give her a few treats so she knew it would be a fun time or did she just do it natualy and sit and watch you as you train her, thanks alot =)

I always try to use positive enforcement when training my dog but how do you get your dog to stop a behavior immediately without saying no? for example, i have a 10 month old gsd who has started playbiting whenever I sit on the ground and the only way I could get him to stop is to say no, even then it doesn't always work. Any suggestions?
tttemm 1 year ago

Thanks
thailanddoggy 1 year ago
@thailanddoggy Teaching a dog eye contact can be very useful, as it opens up the gate to tell the dog when you want him to learn/do something.
This can be done by having him on a sit command. Make him focus on a treat, and move it towards your face to you make eye contact with your dog. when does this consistently, you can add a "contact" sound like ""sss" or a click sound with your mouth. remember = sucees = treat
This way your dog will know, whenever you say this sound, you want contact
KonnichiwaX 1 year ago
@thailanddoggy Yes I would work on eye contact. I have a video on this also!
tab289 1 year ago
hey man been with you from the beginning! now my dog has a thing about bite my gloves ! he wont stop what should i do
Besharm 1 year ago
@Besharm to teach your dog not to bite your gloves, is like when you teach him not to bite your skin.
If all else fails, grab him by the cheeks and tell him "no biting". Make sure to have eyecontact with him.
If you've taught your dog "leave it", this command should also work on your gloves. Simply tell your dog to "leave it", so he knows gloves are a "no no" ^_^
KonnichiwaX 1 year ago
@Besharm I would try all the things I talk about in my video on stopping biting (but with gloves).
