@gmhex Sweet! Please visit the PhotographyREVIEW site and write a review for your camera. We get way too many negative reviews for waterproof cameras. I think the people who are happy just aren't motivated to write reviews.
@TheStevedog9009 Best is somewhat subjective. Right now my favorite waterproof / shockproof camera is the Sony TX5. There's a video for it on the PhotographyREVIEW channel and a full review up for it on the Web site.
@SuperSweetham 30 minutes of battery life might be true for shooting only video. But with stills you'll get plenty of time out of your batteries - unless it's really cold.
@jaiiruss I'm sorry, I can't remember what camera I used to record this video. As for what digital cameras are good at video - there are lots now. What's good for you depends on your budget and needs. Please post your question on the PhotographyREVIEW forums as it's easier to discuss there.
I love mine. The latency on photo capture time has never been an issue for me (use the camera a little and you'll learn how to get around that issue). Image quality has been regarded as less than ideal by some, I have experienced this myself, However! the camera is Capable of taking absolutely stunning crisp high resolution photographs. Its ruggedness gives me great peace of mind. Its that peace of mind -that my camera is not going to break or be damaged, that I appreciate the most.
I bought this camera thinking it would be a great upgrade from my 7.2 mpx one.
HUGE mistake. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMERA!
Terrible picture quality, aggressive flash, noisy pictures, 6 second turn on and 3 second in between pic. lag (which I find completely intolerable), doesn't take clear pics on the go. It is waterproof and shockproof, but what's the point in getting one if it's a piece of crap?
I really don't recommend getting this camera at all, unless you only want it for video.
@Ashfled If you think that lag is annoying in normal pictures, you would be in the brink of commiting suicide in underwater ones. By the time the flash goes the fish is gone. It takes nice videos, true, but as for underwater camera I prefer other brands. The sickening thing is that this one has that enormous lag its predecesor, the Stylus Tough 6020 didn't! And the "aggressive flash" condition you mention makes you to run out of battery quite soon.
opinions on usability? i'm in the market for a "rugged" (college rugged ;p) camera. My sister has an olympus 6000 which i've found to be horrible compared to my cannon SD850. obviously they serve different purposes, however one point that is crucial for me is that i can shoot sharp pics while on the move. My other camera could do that with almost instantenous lock-on whereas my sister's olympus was somewhere around 30-45 second lock ons. opinions? thanks in advance!
@1xXitachiXx1 The image quality of the Olympus doesn't compare to the Canon SD850 IS, which I've also used. The auto focus I'm not sure about. I just played with the 8010 a little bit and it seemed pretty good, although I doubt it's that different from the Stylus Tough 6000. On the other hand, you can drop the 8010 in your beer without ruining it :)
@Pigoso Thanks for your comment, Pigoso. The foundation of PhotographyREVIEW is user reviews so we'd really appreciate it if you visited the site to write a review of your camera. Thanks :-)
hi all be very careful buying this camera as there is an sd card manufactures fault with it, olympus know about the poblem i had had to send it back, its a little slow and buttons are very small fiddly...
@PhotographyREVIEW hi yes okay the problem seems to stem from initial productions of the mju 8010 affecting asia made cameras HK + Japan reported issues of a good number of customers sending their cams back due to the internal SD READER PINS hooking/catching standard sd memory cards the result is that card can become locked, sd reader pins bent/damaged (sd intitialise card failure reported by 8010) . Olympus aware of issue and will repair with a better sd card reader or cam replaced board.
@PhotographyREVIEW i found that the 8010 would accept some sd cards fine other (but still the same sd format) the card would lock inside the slot (pins would be locked only way to extract card is to pull out with pliars or take camera apart). Im trying to get serial codes or production run codes so i can find out which region/runs are affected but ive sent my own back after using it twice indoors! and had sd slot fail. Shop also confirm more of these had been returned with same fault...
@marlo1204 Thanks for the specs, Marlo. The 8010 is actually waterproof to 33 feet/10 meters. As far as specs go, it's one of the best waterproof point-and-shoots to use in the water.
Uuuhhh, I forgot to put the camera in focus so you could see me open the box (who cares?) Uuuhh, I can't turn it on because the battery isn't charged yet (patience?) Uuumm, it actually has batteries in it I discovered (why even bother checking?) Whoa, she's sexy from behind, probably inappropriate, Woops (get laid please) Snorkeling in the desert (WTF?) Please lay off the ganja, brah! Terrible Video, Sick Camera.
hi all i wanna know how long can you hd 720p recording one full battery nonstop ???????also if put in 16 gb sd cart do is work because sameone said only 4 gb pls
Would be really interested to see it if you ever got around to it. I do alot of fly fishing vids and currently have a stylus tough 6000 and a GoProHD cam. Neither cut the mustard for underwater clear shots.
@colinf94404 I didn't shoot any snorkeling video. The visibility was crap that day so it wouldn't have been any good. I do have a couple of mountain bike video clips but I haven't had a chance to edit them. I'm working on a Pentax W90 preview piece now...
i have the pansonic lumix, my friend has this one....my camera eats up more mem0ry and i like that, the quility is much higher becase of the data rate being ..higher a 8 gig card only holds 50 min onmy camera.its avchd, pansonic invented teh technoogy(look it up)also a much better camera then this is a sony tx5 waterproff and will take sd cards

@vacationboyvideos I believe the Panasonic Lumix DMC- TS2 is the same. Panasonic and Olympus use and share the same technology.
But thanks for the tip. I will serious consider the Panasonic.
