@carbondragon6 That's how Porsche is actually pronounced. Over here in the U.S. we always assume that the "e" is silent, however it is a german company so the name is german. In turn you pronounce the "e".
* Anybody can buy a Porsche, but can you afford to OWN one ?
*They dont mention the insane $1,200 dollar oil change. Sky high Insurance rates for New Jersey, California, and New York residents. The weekly 'premium' gas costs. If you damage the PDK Clutch, well thats gonna cost you another arm and leg. On top of all this, you gotta expect people to respect your car when you park it. Not stealing it out of your own Driveway helps.lol
* Boxsters/911 are worth every penny. in my opinion
Really it's the two trunks that makes it a EPIC WIN. All other sporty convertibles have a engine in the front and the convertible roof takes up the trunk. Boxster is the only one that you can have the roof down and still have TWO trunks.
@saeidmomtahan Congratulations. I hope you are aware of the Intermediate Shaft or IMS failures that plague the 986 and 987 up to 2009. This is important information to have, if the bearing on the shaft fails it will destroy the motor. Might be good to find out if the bearing had ever been replaced. Not all of them fail but the ones that do take the motor with them. Do a search for IMS and see what you come up with. Good luck in the UAE.
Thanks for the advise. Actually, when I first start it in the morning, there is this high pitched rattling noise, which lasts about 1-2 seconds. Sounds like could be a bearing on its way out. I'll have it checked.
Otherwise, what a joy this car is! I've put 1500 KMs on it in the past 10 days
@saeidmomtahan That sure sounds like the intermedate shaft bearing, a common problem with the M96 and even M97 engines in both the Boxsters and 996s. With water and oil mixing you may be to late, but then again if itis still running it means you havn't had complete failure so it may only be a couple of a grand instead of $20K for a motor. Check Pelican Parts for good info on this subject and some of the repair options.
)-: The Boxster's in the shop, with serious problems. Oil and water mixed! I'm gutted. It's gonna cost an arma nd a leg too, just to get it diagnosed. I don't even wanna think about how much it'll cost to fix it. EVERYTHING is in the 1000s.
I drove it for only500 Miles before it crapped out . I was in heaven for those 500 Miles. It's an amazing feeling to drive a boxster S
My friend, I am sorry to hear of your troubles! You sure didn't get to drive it much before it failed.
I hope the repair won't be too expensive but something like that can take the fun out of the experience real fast. There is a very good forum for 986 987Boxster owners at 986forum dot com There are many great guys in there and lots of information about the 986/987. I am a member there as well. I wish you good luck and hope you are back on the road soon! Boxsters are FUN!
@Tinsby I should hear something from the mechanic in the next day or two. Trouble is, I'm traveling for the next 2-3 months and have no idea what's gonna happen with the Boxster.
I can tell you this much, this will be my last German car. Unless if I become a multi millionaire. Cause that's what it takes to keep and maintain a German car.
@saeidmomtahan I appreciate your sentiments especially right at the moment. I will admit I am no millionaire but was a technician for 18 years +. Right now I do not do my own maintenance because the car is under factory warranty and I have no way to prove that I did the work. if a catastrophe happens I can show the dealer records to Porsche. I would suggest that your car was 'sick' before you got it and unfortunately you end up with a huge bill to make it right. After it's fixed it WILL be fun!
Not sure if you saw my other post. But I got the service and maintenance records from the workshop where it's been worked on for the past few years. In the last 24 months, the previous owner spend over 15000$ on repairs and maintenance.
I honestly attribute this to my bad karma. i used to buy and sell cars before and i think I might have, well.. must have, screwed some one. So here it is, coming back at me, with interest.
I'm spending a couple Ks more on it. If not fixed, I'll junk it.
1. Sorry, but that`s not possible. If you really want AWD you gotta look for a 911 carrera 4. They are more expensive though.
2. The rear window doesn`t like the cold that much. Personally, I use a hardtop during the winter. You can get them around 1k to 3k and there are different types as well. There is even one that makes the Boxster look like a Cayman.
I herd nightmares on service and cost of ownership, how true that is, im not sure 100%.Also for such an expensive car, how can you not get Bluetooth as an option!? im not a tech-wiz but spending the dough for a car like this, you would expect some technical in-cabin features. The Z4 M coupe has a pretty impressive spec sheet alot with technology and comfort, might not be as balanced but its a worthy contender
@6UNLEASHED trust me bro , the proshe is a bit back ended on tech. my parents are getting me the z4 next month. my options were the merc slk kompressor , the boxster and the z4 the z4 hands down best drive experience. plus it has tonnes of tech , navigation and control features. not to mention all the little things all around the car. the merc though was very nice but by fact a bit slow and gives too much of safe and luxurious feeling. the z4 is on the balance. if ur thinking of buying one
@ishraak2314 The only issue with Porsches was the tech stuff, since all the models I was looking at, had nothing! The Z4 is pretty buttoned up with all the features you mentioned, and has the strong BMW reliability, and really good CPO warranty. Now that I ruled out the Porsche, does an M3 sound equally as good?
@6UNLEASHED the m3 is a great drive bro , its conventional models are not really faster than the conventional z4's but then again its heavier + it offers space for more passengers and it offers alot of accessory features too my cousin has one and the dude loves it. hes a married dude but also a casual racer haha so its a great over all bargain. the z4 on the other hand provides more individual fun its a better driving experience. haha its a deffo ego boost being behind the weels of that car ..
@ishraak2314 I live down the block from a beach, and every summer for the past 10 years I just wished I had a drop top! the M3 is still the benchmark for any affordable sports car, if I can find a convertible M3 with a hardtop option, id go for it, but then again, the Z4 M coupe is almost a rare option, they only imported a handful. What im basically looking at is, a 2 door (or 2 seater) German car with a decent amount of interior tech (nav/bluetooth/winter pgke) Looking to spend around 35k
@6UNLEASHED which country do you live in ? my reason of asking is to know how much is the tax on vehicles there. in some places u can get a fantastic ride for 35k. german cars always offer spectacular driving experiences. lol i looked up quite a few 2 seaters in the past few weeks. so just gimme an estimate of the tax u guys have and ill suggest u a nice ride but i must ask if you are willing to go beyond german cars.
@ishraak2314 I live in the US. (State: good ol' New York City!) sales tax is 8.75% here which is kinda high but we all pay that. Like you, I looked at the CLK's, numerous other 2 seat and 2 door cars. The 335xi & 328xi are solid choices too, as is the A5 3.2L and the 650i. 2 seater wise, I've only looked at the Cayman, Z4 M, Corvette.
If nothing became of my coupe choices, and had to go with a sedan, the CLS550 is at the top of the list next to an S4. Test drives are my only hurdle now
@6UNLEASHED haha 8.75% is very low. in my native country of bangladesh we have 400% tax on cars now. the A5 and 335xi's i checked out. the A5 convertible is actually very nice. the price was around 41 with a hanful of features when i last checked it. but entry level models start from 33 and if ur okay with used cars u can get it at even cheaper rates. the 335Xi with all its features should be available for about 29-33 maybe a bit more with tax inputted. none the less you can get everything ...
@ishraak2314 Yes, those prices fall within range and offer a ton of standard features, the AWD is a heavy consideration since we get snow and seasonal stuff here. Ive seen some as low at 25k with fantastic CPO warranty. Its all going to come down to a test drive
Dude No Country Has A 400% Tax ....Check Ur Figures...I Am From India And I Suppose The Import Laws Of India And Bangladesh Should More Or Less The Same.....So I Suppose It Can Be Atmost 135% Like I Mentioned In My Previous Post......It Is Still Insanely High Though...Bloody Socialists....
@6UNLEASHED with those 2 cars within your price range. btw the honda s2000 is actually a very well rated convertible . dont know much about that car but just saying.
If We Had That Kind Of Low Taxes I Would Be Owning One Of These Beautiful Machines Right Now,,,,We Have A Import Duty Between 85%-135%......Which In Short Doubles The Price Of All Cars In Our Country.....Even The Cars Coming Through The CBU Route Have 35% Taxes Imposed.....Jus Pathetic....I Hate Socialism....Someone Else Does The Hard Work And Some one Else Enjoys All The Benefits.....
@6UNLEASHED but then again it comes down to what you need and want so if you tell your requirements maybe i can suggest a good ride for you. but both the z4 and m3 are great for driving as most other bmws though i think driving experience wise the z4 is a ahead.
This car does look nice but the engine has grenading problems. Might want to check google on this particular car, there is a reason they are so cheap to buy used.
@eheister2006 Will you elaborate on how it was a money pit? I'm considering one, but I hate the idea of losing or wasting money. It's hard to avoid with automobiles, but every bit counts.
@rarejd Let's say everything on the Boxster lasts half as long and cost 2x what a regular car cost. I had to get it towed 4 times in 5 years. It had only 54K miles on it when I sold it.
I love this car and I hope to own one too someday, but the only downside is that it doesn't sound sporty at all. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner so I'll have to have it modifiedw with a new exhaust.
I always thought buying a boxter is smarter than a 911. For what you can do on the street, lookwise, and feelwise they are almost identical..but you save a ton of money :D
@FearOfTheFlesh the front of the boxster s and 911 is the same no difference. The real difference between the two is the handling. Boxster s goes like a go cart, something the 911 series lack. It goes where you point it, even at high speeds with no fear of spinning out. something 911 cant do, yes 911 on highways will beat you, in city driving the 911 has a hard time keeping up with the boxster s because of its heavy back
yes, unfortunately the import tax on cars is high in Malaysia. I'm a Malaysian working in the US, and was shocked initially to see how much 'cheaper' cars are outside of Asia. you can easily get a 2nd hand 05/06 Boxster for US25+ k
how on earth did you get an '06 for 12 k?? the KBB prices even for a 60k miles 05 base model in bad shape is going to be at least 15k. was that a salvage car?
that wouldn't be the typical price for a porsche in the US, which might be making the comparisons a bit more difficult to swallow. the usual prices (especially if they're certified pre-owned by porsche) are not that low
yeaps but yeah i miss her very very much now. just curious though what tag does a pre-owned 09 go for over there?
driving a kelisa after a boxster just doesn't even out well but paying first hand price for a second hand car that's 4-5 years old just doesn't justify it.
Depends on the options, mileage and whether it's CPO-Porsche. I'd figure at least 46k.
Can't use your earlier price as a benchmark as that's not the norm. Not sure why the previous owner sold it for such a low price. I got my '06 for 39K.
A boxster for $12K 2005?!? You stole that car.. I'm in the car business and have been for 10+ years as sales manager, Finance Manager and even was Partnered in a Dealership and $12 is WAY below even WHOLESALE! Weird anyone would sell one that low when there are tons of buyers at much higher prices all over.. Must have been a REAL tough crunch a nd needed the money right then! lol But great for you! :)
@bewd6797 ...or " its" class, without the ridiculously overused and always incorrect apostrophe which should only be used for the contraction of "IT IS"
ok respect boxster and porsche and its fast....Dont no what to think though becuz its really cheap but really fast.....could get an 04 for about 20k maybe....love it
You cannot get a 2004 that is in marginally fair shape for 20k, especially an S model (which is, in my opinion, the absolute best option). They are not cheap cars...
should I get a Audi A5 auto with almost all options, or a base boxster with just nav and a stick, but ill be driving a lot and like auto, Im leaning towards the A5
In the options list PSM is not an option, is default! PASM is an option and is the active suspension... PSM is an help for the driver and is standart equipment...
i purchased a 2001 boxster in 2007 and have ever since been in love with my car. it has great handling which is first before speed for me and as the car picks up, you dont realize you are going 50 mph on the street. the car is built well also. Ive gone over a foot tall curb and must say the under plates protectect the car. I was also struck bad from behind while parked and must say the car was still driveable to my surprise.
yea, but i have to keep the button pressed while the top goes down and also the car has to be in the stopped position with the e brake activated. I know on newer you can be drivin up to 35 mph and put the top down.
@SERKANUSA .... Try installing gembella exhaust. it will bring out the beast. You wont regret it. but i have to warn you..... you wont be able to use your cell phone, because you cant hear nothing except the sound of the engine.
It's a beautiful sound, the engine. And while it's not too loud for most driving, I do find it getting to me when we take the 5-hr drive to visit the inlaws.
While car shopping, I drove this car. It's wonderful. My problem was, I kept thinking about the 911. I decided to buy a used 911 cabrio instead and I'm psyched.
If you must buy a new Porsche, this is a great deal. However, pre-owned 911's might be the best deal of all.
I never belive that Porsche is that different that any other sports car, till moment that I tried one 911 78' manual for week. Holly Mother, it is rebirth I think that Boxter 2002- above is much sportier handling and performance then any sports car. I do own 2002 and Porsche Boxter is an champ.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'd rather have an Audi TT convertible. But the Porsche Boxster gets good mileage. It's also faster and more powerful than the similar Mercedes SLK. The SLK is more luxurious, however.
You may want to drive one as I'm sure you're opinion would change. This car will eat a Mustang GT for lunch and handles better then 98% of all cars on the road. I find it sportier with better handling the my old 02 Corvette...
I didn't know there was an A in porsche?

Boxsters are actully at quiet fair prices compare to others. Boxster S which has 3.2 litre engine, you can easily get it for £7000.

i bought a boxster thats ragged out for 8k is that pretty fair
2012olympian2012 1 year ago
I always thought buying a boxter is smarter than a 911. For what you can do on the street, lookwise, and feelwise they are almost identical..but you save a ton of money :D
FearOfTheFlesh 2 years ago 4
@FearOfTheFlesh the front of the boxster s and 911 is the same no difference. The real difference between the two is the handling. Boxster s goes like a go cart, something the 911 series lack. It goes where you point it, even at high speeds with no fear of spinning out. something 911 cant do, yes 911 on highways will beat you, in city driving the 911 has a hard time keeping up with the boxster s because of its heavy back

A second hand unit goes for 50+K USD in malaysia....... and thats an 05/06 model.
gahhh....
still getting one... too sexy to resist
ShawnGlory 2 years ago
yes, unfortunately the import tax on cars is high in Malaysia. I'm a Malaysian working in the US, and was shocked initially to see how much 'cheaper' cars are outside of Asia. you can easily get a 2nd hand 05/06 Boxster for US25+ k
vagus 1 year ago
yeah its over priced here.
u can get an 08/09 for slightly lower than that if i'm not wrong ^^ the last time i was there when i was under a half year project got an 06' for 12k.
sucks to have to pay 50k for a second hand here and it sucks even worse to go from a porsche to a kelisa
ShawnGlory 1 year ago
how on earth did you get an '06 for 12 k?? the KBB prices even for a 60k miles 05 base model in bad shape is going to be at least 15k. was that a salvage car?
that wouldn't be the typical price for a porsche in the US, which might be making the comparisons a bit more difficult to swallow. the usual prices (especially if they're certified pre-owned by porsche) are not that low
vagus 1 year ago
direct dealed with the owner and no third parties involved upfront cash and he agreed. it was a 2.7 btw
ShawnGlory 1 year ago
the base boxsters from 05-06 are all 2.7.
that was a good deal. probably not something you'll get on a routine basis.
vagus 1 year ago
yeaps but yeah i miss her very very much now. just curious though what tag does a pre-owned 09 go for over there?
driving a kelisa after a boxster just doesn't even out well but paying first hand price for a second hand car that's 4-5 years old just doesn't justify it.
ShawnGlory 1 year ago
Depends on the options, mileage and whether it's CPO-Porsche. I'd figure at least 46k.
Can't use your earlier price as a benchmark as that's not the norm. Not sure why the previous owner sold it for such a low price. I got my '06 for 39K.
vagus 1 year ago
ah now u've drawn my curiosity on why he let it go for such a low price.
i always thought it'd be 25k++
aside from worn threads, requiring oil change and a minor yet easily fixable heating problem it was close to perfection.
i think i'll drop him a line one of these days.
ShawnGlory 1 year ago
A boxster for $12K 2005?!? You stole that car.. I'm in the car business and have been for 10+ years as sales manager, Finance Manager and even was Partnered in a Dealership and $12 is WAY below even WHOLESALE! Weird anyone would sell one that low when there are tons of buyers at much higher prices all over.. Must have been a REAL tough crunch a nd needed the money right then! lol But great for you! :)

Sloppy copy: at 0:30 "respectable fuel economy"
Fuel economy is an euphemism.
It should be fuel consumption. And how many MPG! Duh!
Because there is no economy in fuel economy!
Same as Public Phone!
What is so public about the phone?
CarSanook!
It is a pay phone right?

ok respect boxster and porsche and its fast....Dont no what to think though becuz its really cheap but really fast.....could get an 04 for about 20k maybe....love it
aLteRn8FX 2 years ago
You cannot get a 2004 that is in marginally fair shape for 20k, especially an S model (which is, in my opinion, the absolute best option). They are not cheap cars...
joshlespaul1952 2 years ago
should I get a Audi A5 auto with almost all options, or a base boxster with just nav and a stick, but ill be driving a lot and like auto, Im leaning towards the A5
geedunk13 2 years ago
In the options list PSM is not an option, is default! PASM is an option and is the active suspension... PSM is an help for the driver and is standart equipment...

i purchased a 2001 boxster in 2007 and have ever since been in love with my car. it has great handling which is first before speed for me and as the car picks up, you dont realize you are going 50 mph on the street. the car is built well also. Ive gone over a foot tall curb and must say the under plates protectect the car. I was also struck bad from behind while parked and must say the car was still driveable to my surprise.

Does your Porche have an automatic operated top or not?
mohammadazizeddin 2 years ago
yea, but i have to keep the button pressed while the top goes down and also the car has to be in the stopped position with the e brake activated. I know on newer you can be drivin up to 35 mph and put the top down.
davidorozco86 2 years ago
how much was your 2001boxter?? because i'm looking forward at getting the 2002 boxter their selling it to me for 12,000..is that a good price..

50 to 60k

That sounds about fair.
Because of the bad economy, my dad just bought a Boxster 1997 for 3.58k cash but with slight damage with the engine it should add 4k for the fix

@SERKANUSA .... Try installing gembella exhaust. it will bring out the beast. You wont regret it. but i have to warn you..... you wont be able to use your cell phone, because you cant hear nothing except the sound of the engine.
digitalwolves 2 years ago
the engine sounds like a computer
futureBLESS 2 years ago
It's a beautiful sound, the engine. And while it's not too loud for most driving, I do find it getting to me when we take the 5-hr drive to visit the inlaws.

The looks of the 911 reminds me too much of the VW Beetle. I know everyone is going to argue with me to death on this one but its my honest opinion.
Akelei22 2 years ago
While car shopping, I drove this car. It's wonderful. My problem was, I kept thinking about the 911. I decided to buy a used 911 cabrio instead and I'm psyched.
If you must buy a new Porsche, this is a great deal. However, pre-owned 911's might be the best deal of all.
atorza 2 years ago
I never belive that Porsche is that different that any other sports car, till moment that I tried one 911 78' manual for week. Holly Mother, it is rebirth I think that Boxter 2002- above is much sportier handling and performance then any sports car. I do own 2002 and Porsche Boxter is an champ.

I was always told there is no room to put a turbo on this car. I do not own a Porsche, but would love to in my dreams.

so you added 160hp to your boxter with a turbo, i dont think so

I'd rather have an Audi TT convertible. But the Porsche Boxster gets good mileage. It's also faster and more powerful than the similar Mercedes SLK. The SLK is more luxurious, however.

You may like this car if you are a chick.
You may not like this car if you want a real sportscar like a 911.
dayfisher1 3 years ago
You may want to drive one as I'm sure you're opinion would change. This car will eat a Mustang GT for lunch and handles better then 98% of all cars on the road. I find it sportier with better handling the my old 02 Corvette...
