This is why running without lights and sirens is usually easier/safer. Once people see the lights and hear the sirens they panic and lose all common sense when it comes to driving. So when you see a unit speeding down the road or only using his overheads when he is going through an intersection he's probably going somewhere important not just speeding because he can...

Most officers tend to run dark to service calls unless it involves an officer or it's a priority call, that might get a code 2. But very rarely do we ever go code 3, actually we've had officers get in trouble for running code 3 to certain calls. BS yes but it's just the way they run it.

@themooseisontheloose Like I said, it varies by state. New York law is different than Ohio law. If you would go back and re-read my comment, you would see that I said it varies by state. Where I live, in Ohio, if an emergency vehicle is on an emergency run, the lights and sirens must be activated.
