i thought i was alone in the magic of Dan Fogelbergs magic and influence in my life, thanks chacka69 for ensuring me Dan will forever live amongst us !!
"She said she saw me in the record stores, and that I must be doing well...I said the audience was heavenly, but the traveling was hell..." You KNOW this came out of his real life. Roberta, thank you for EVERYTHING. I regret NOTHING--that makes YOU an icon in my life. 12 years of happiness and wonderment you gave me. Thank you.
Ive known two people. 25years the Woman wonder what happened to the love of her life. 4 years ago their paths crossed. When all memories have been said & relieved, They've tred their friendship with most melancholic mixture of Love & Caring (but it's been too late- just as the song says.) Last year they get together again- & the Man says he cared. BUT
what a beautiful song!, reminds of great past memories I will never forget, I smile when I hear this incredible song! I wish they would continue to make songs like his!
Barf-bucket worthy. Sorry, but this reminds me of all the plastic flowers and ceramic figurines that were placed upon shelves, thinking they were gifts of friendship.
This was very beautifully done. Thanks for sharing your artistic interpretation to a wonderful song. Ironically enough I was 18 when this song was released.
I love this song, and I always liked Dan Fogelberg, he was a unique musician. I love the music & lyrics in this song. I miss his music...I often think what he would have created for us to listen too before he left us so soon.
Every time I hear this some there seems to be a hole in my heart which needed to hear it. I first heard this song when I was in college and have loved all of Dan's music since!
To liruichen.......You want to hear another true story? I do believe I speak for most people in this forum that you are a lonely, bitter douchebag, who couldn't get laid if you were the 2nd to last person on this earth. Farm animals may be more your type, but even that might now work...even a cow has standards..... Now, tomorrow I could call you a douchebag again, but might then think that "our time was never meant to last forever"
This song makes me wonder what my life would have been like if I had let the love of my life walk away. Sometimes I wish I had then the pain of his betrayal wouldn't hurt so much but I gave him that chance since he didn't let me walk away from his life. But I guess I can't regret it all cause my son is the sole reminder of our once love ;(
@supermariofan10 Thank goodness they don't make them "kike" this anymore. IF this is indeed the best song you have ever heard you have lived a sad eighteen years of life and that would explain your affinity for this sappy soul sucking slop sack of a song.
@liruichen Wow! ...was that really necessary to attack an an 18 year old kid the way you did. And, correcting his grammar was such a nice added touch to your insult. I bet your a lonely individual without friends or people to care for you. In fact, I'll wager that you visit this song each night; just for an opportunity to converse with someone, even to just insult someone else, because THAT is the only kind of human contact that you will give or receive.
@nickfiricano I certainly hope that learning Dan Fogelberg is not the epitome of music won't be the greatest shock an 18 year old adult (not kid) receives in life. Coddling them won't make them successful or happy. A fair guess on the loneliness, but I was driven to all videos of this song because I found a sudden burning hatred for it's triteness and I am admittedly a little bored at my in-laws house for Christmas.
Your first sentence needs a question mark, and "your" should be "you're."
@liruichen Thank you for populating the comments here with your Christmas spirit and overall "Douchey-ness". Your in-laws must be similarly tired of you by now.
@Opinionator Well it wasn't easy to find all the videos and it sure was hard to take a break from all the sweets and Christmas cheer to address this important issue, but ultimately it was worth it. Pretty cool that I get to be a capital "D" douche, no lowercase douchebaggery for me. Long live the Anti-Folgelberg movement!
@dave4708 Best Christmas song by far? That's a bold statement, and immediately discernible as false. You know what else is a true story: I ate a sandwich and passed it an hour later. I loved that sandwich, but our time together was just never meant to last forever. Sometimes when I'm eating another sandwich I think, "Hey, that was a really great sandwich that one time. I wish it hadn't looked so bad the last time I saw it."
@ajaugenti I'm just glad it didn't bring about the end of the world before I was born a few months later. That would have sucked, and it seemed like a real close call.
@liruichen - To liruichen.......You want to hear another true story? Farm animals may be more your type, but even that might not work...even a cow has standards..... Now, tomorrow I could call you a douchebag again, but might then think that "our time was never meant to last forever" and then never bother to acknowledge you again.
I remember hearing this for the first time in about December of 1980 while I was driving to school to SUNY Stony Brook, my first year of college! I knew I was hearing another song of unbelievable beauty, like 5 years earlier, when i first heard "To The Morning" in my room as a 13 year old young teenager! Sincerely, BobbyK bobby7771117 1 sec ago
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WELL CRAFTED, CHRISTMAS SONG. TRUE STORY TOLD BY DAN AS ONLY HE COULD. SAD BUT BEAUTIFUL , SURE AS HELL DONT MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE. GOD REST UR SOUL DAN FOGELBERG - RIP DEC-16- 2007.
@oct201981 What is apparently passing for "well-crated" these days is the actual sad true story. The real Christmas miracle here is that they don't, in fact, make them like this anymore, at least that's the continual Christmas wish of every innocent child.
Beautiful, touching and so artfully done. Dan's lyrics are timeless. Taking a page out of his own life for us all to share. Miss your brand of music, sad to say it's all but gone nowdays. Reflections on a brand New Year...happy holidays!
this song reminds me of my first love,..we lost each other then after 16 years we found each other again but eventually lost him forever to that big C after 4 years..he is the greatest love of my life that until now i still dream and wish to see him again...i know he is at peace with our Creator...
if you're out there, roger, roger, roger, this song always makes me think of you ;)

@FreqBand Take your negativity somewhere else. You have to be intelligent and have a heart to appreciate Dan's music. You obviously have neither.

I love this song, but that's the one line I never got. You can't find an open bar on New Year's Eve? What planet is that?

@bhartman36 It was Christmas Eve.

@bhartman36 The lines of the song are "The snow was falling Christmas Eve", so it wasn't New Year's Eve he was talking about. Happy New Year anyway!
