I remember having an old epiphone les paul copy many years ago, like almost 20 years ago, and it was the worst piece of crap I ever played, I can see why that guitar didn't interest you
Yeah, I got one of those from my friend years back. problems? yes. Fixable? Of course. Having a soldering iron and a few other tools, I went in, fixed the wiring, tightened a few things up. I dropped $300 and slapped a Gibson Burstbucker on the rhythm side, and a classic pro on the treble side. with some minor adjusting, the intonation is perfect and the action is groovy. I did happen to compare it with a Gibson. the gloss finish has imperfections but the action: close, sound: near to identical
I deal with epi's a lot, almost half of them come in and the electronics are screwed up so bad that the threeway doesn't work properly and need to be repaired right out of the box. QC really needs to be improved. other than that, decent bang for thu buck.....i guess.
There's only one thing wrong with these kind of comments and that there is nothing said about the guitar. How could anyone know what your reasons are for this bashing besides you hate me? I'll bet you own the instrument and are protecting your attachment to it or something? Come on and complete the bashing! I can take as much shit as you want to give but as long as you don't state technically why then what's it worth to other people?
Man, you'd get more from a a cheap Ibanez Artcore than that thing. Gibson sure does like to fuck up it's subdivisions. I pray to god Kramer's not fucked up the ass yet.
Guitar snobs......Like I wouldn't have a '59 Les if I could afford it! Well I can't! So I have to get the best sounding, best playing bang for my buck. And for me, that's Epiphone by a mile!
@thisnotmyname They do have a gawdy paint scheme.I guess crackle was a fad at some point. Iv'e got a black on white one and plan to keep it.The thing just rips with a distortion pedal through a Peavey Classic 30.No complaints at all for a $225 investment.
This is great! This is what I'm looking for in comments. What I don't understand is when people lash out and say this is shit you're a stupid fool and so forth. Why I'm I all these things? You've got to explain with facts and information and then we, and that's me included, realize the truth and where you're coming from. Otherwise you sound like a little kid that's just out to piss someone off and has no brains whatsoever.
I have this same guitar and would not part with it. It is one of the sweetest sounding in my collection of about 60 guitars. The way to get the best out of it is to do a little setup work and some experimenting with different string sets. This one may not have the original pickups as the original has covered humbuckers. They are wound a bit hotter than the standard Epi pickups My current setup is with 12-52 flatwound strings. Some change cap values, but I haven't so far as I like it as is.
Well I have a Peavey Rotor EXP which is basicly a mahogony explorer with a Floyd Rose on it and I have a Epiphone Les Paul Special.
The Peavey sounds a lot better but I actually prefer the Epiphone because I have very severe back problems and the Rotor is way too heavy. It weighs 10.2 kg which is heavyer than any Les Paul I ever played.
So if you don't like the sounds of the Epiphone guitar, just change the pickups because the neck and body are usually pretty good;)

@metallica21000 Everybody like Gibson better than Epiphone - eventually. Unless you buy a cheap Gibson like a LP Studio. Then it's a crapshoot if you get a good one or not. Fender is in the same boat by the way.

I'm slowly becoming a fender, which kind of stinks, considering the fact that I've never owned one of those crem of the crop les pauls, cause I know those must just be some great guitars, but it's easier to get a good fender or squier at a good price. I can still appreciate some gibsons and epis, like the ES-335 and the wilshire. The Sheraton sounds good too, but gibson and epi just aren't what they used to be, and their prices are kind of unreasonable
I really don't like the look of that guitar I agree that it kinda looks shitty, I really don't like that guitar, but I don't like Gibson in general, so it's fair enough, I have always been of the opinion that epiphone has better models anyways, the futura and the EM are both cooler looking and better sounding than most gibsons. I can't stand Epiphone guitars that were made overseas. The original American models were so much better it's silly. Once you know what a true Epiphone once was these little bickerings we're having should be set aside. That's where the miscommunication is. I'm not talking about what Epiphone is now, and that's not that good, I'm talking about what it once was. Sorry but I'm sentimental.
actually, epiphone was it's own company before, Epiphone used to have higher quality hollowbodies than gibson, the caino was one of them. Wilshire was a solid body guitar too. Anyways, AFter the second world war epiphone got swallowed by gibson and from then on gibson produced their less expensive model through epiphone, still continuing some of the older epiphone models
what an ugly guitar lol I am usually a fan of epiphones but anything before around 2005 from epiphone looked way tacky... tribute models look good though
please be more humble man, you and me can afford gibson but there are alot of player and of your viewers that can't afford gibson or even a Epiphone! Just an advice, no offence
Why do Epiphones get slated buy so many ppl. Epiphone was Gibson's main rival until the 50's. Epi's masterbuilt archtops were second to none... I've played Gibsons and yeah, they are as good as ppl say but they are way over priced. I think Epiphones are good quality and consistent.. and the Korean Manufactured guitars are really good, it was when production moved to Indonesia that things went tits up.
i never noticed that but i believe you, i have one of the more top of the line eclipse models and it sounds as good as any gibson it has seymour duncans and is completely solid, my point overall is that this guitar isnt the best you could get for the price.
I have this guitar in black and white...and man it looks much better than these colors...but this guy rips on my ax pretty much the whole video, nice...
Epiphone was originally a competitor to Gibson, and made excellent quality instruments starting back in the 1800's, all the way into the 1950's when Gibson bought them out. Epi may NOW be Gibson's low-end brand (though yeah, a lot of their stuff is amazing by itself), but used to the were their own thing.
@TheRoughSound Was really hoping that someone else knew that Epiphone used to be around as an independent brand... this guy makes it sound like Epi's are jus tGibson knockoffs, and were a creation of Gibson...
Theres only one store in my town that sells Gibsons, and thats Guitar Center, and everytime I've gone down to test Les Pauls I've noticed that the fretboards are always super dry and very unconditioned and you can see it. My fingers would stick to the frets and it just felt super uncomfortable. I don't know if thats the case on every new Les Paul everywhere else in the world. I can't afford a Gibson, but I would have to at least condition the frets just to play it, if I bought one.
This is the difference between a service shop and a warehouse outlet. Getting a good deal is cool but you'll still have to follow it up with a set up and service afterwards because a guitar bends and twists and has to be maintained. Thanks for the comment.
Yeah. I use to complain like hell when expensive new guitars would come in and they were horribly set up. I'd have to go through the instrument from top to bottom to make it nice to play. People would come in the shop and wonder why our guitars were better than the ones up the street. It made them much easier to sell. Companies can't afford to spend the time doing setups. Since the item is already popular, they just expect the customer will have it set up without them having to bother with it.
Amen! support small local music stores! i rather pay the extra 10 percent to help a local business and get a better guitar than save a little cash. I bought my gibson les paul at a local store and i didnt mind giving an extra 180
@BigMateo24 Your only problem is that your in a store where probably more than 30 peple have picked up that guitar before you. Maybe even more. If that guitar isnt cleaned for a month, you can expect that guitar to feel terrible. Gibson's do feel extremely good, you just need to find a local music store that supplies les pauls.
I think that Gibson is kind of overrated. I went down to the guitar center today and played both a Gibson LP and an Epiphone LP. The only big difference i noticed was the Price tag.
lol.... i think you just compared a well made epiphone to a badly made gibson. in general, IN GENERAL - gibsons are better made. OF course there are exceptions
One of the saalesman at Guitar Center showed me one big difference in the necks between an Epi and a Gibson. It looked like the neck was weaker in certain part of the neck on the Epi and of course the Pups were audinley weaker than the Gibsons Pups.
Love your vids John. I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison of a Gibson and an Epi -- with you blindfold :-). I've no doubt you could tell the difference, but how quickly?
Folks, if you were offered a brand new unmarked Gibson in a reputable store (or even right at the factory), how much would the price have to be adjusted before you'd buy it?
Now ask yourself why the price should be any different at all -- that is if it's a good playing, well constructed guitar that you actually want.
i forgot to add-the zebra pups on the review guitar aren't the original pups. the original pups have a silver cover with the 'e" on them, and they're way hotter than stock pups. find someone who has one of these pauls and give it a wail. you'll like it.
Gibson's $2000 plus models do sound better to my ears that the Epi $800 lp customs. But they sure as hell do not sound $1200 better. Honestly I don't think they sound $600 better. Epi definitely gives you more guitar for your money.
But there's a thing about playing with an authentic Gibson Les Paul that you just can't copy. It's like buying an Audi and trying to make it feel like a Mercedes. Plus the Gibson's have better build quality than the Epi's (epiphones are made in china)
LOL he looks so hurt to be having to review an epiphone. I think he got home, bathed, and sat in front of a mirror playing a Gibson after this. The bottom line, dont get the cheaper epiphone's, get the $500+ such as the standard and custom les paul. I tried an epiphone les paul special II and it was terrible but my epiphone les paul custom MIK is great.
thought that the epiphones had a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard so its not all mahogany like a gibson and instead of the nitro cellulouse lacker like on a gibson they uses polyurithane lacker to make then alot more affordable than a gibson as well as the obvious pick-ups ect.
The nitro cellulose takes weeks to apply to a LP therefore the price difference. Also, the NC wil allow the wood in the body to age whilst the polyurethane seals the body for life. In time the NC grows thinner therefore the body can damage easier but u get that tone of an old guitar.
i realy like the gibson sound and everything but am scared that an epiphone will be the gibson version of a squire which i hate......or is it more like the relationship between an american fender and a mexican fender?
The necks are too big, the strings are hard to push down, sounds akward, etc. But if you get yourself a more expensive Epiphone it could work. Go to a Guitarstore and try out different models. You should also check out guitars that are not in your pricerange just to get the feel of a more expensive instrument. Hope that helps!
They're only bad if you're a close minded person who has lived with Gibsons or Martins all your life. You just have to think of the price. This guitar for 1/5 of the price of a Gibson? That is a AMAZING value. And remember all guitars are different. Someone may have an AMAZING $200 dollar guitar when some unlucky guy got a piece of crap $500. Remember too always play the guitar before you buy it.
I have an epiphone les paul special II. It's their second cheapest model. I think it is a decent guitar. It sounds good, (Only good cuz I have a shit 15 watt amp lol) I would get a standard strat for the price of the epiphone les paul standard. Both are good.
The Squier you probably hated was a low end Afinty Squier. It's the same with any product line. They have their low end junk then they have some better ones. In this case with Epiphone, it's the same, The more expensive ones play nice while the $100 one is gonna be junk...
This guitar is pretty cool but the finish and the WW3 stuff is really horrible... anyway I think epiphone is much better than gibson in the quality-price relationship.
ok dude here is a REALLY BASIC SUMMERY DUDE. if you want to get that really nice and TOTTALY close gibson sound for a very low price... like 300-1000$... then go for a epiphone. gibson is just MORE EXPENCIVE like around 3000$. but both sounds nearly the same plays the same.. is just that epiphone is made in CHINA with not so good materials and gib is in the USA which is better. so, if you want a gibson les paul and on a very low buget, then go for a epiphone
I ACTULLY HAVE BOTH GIBSON AND EPIPHONE LES PAULs. like i said, epiphone is just less expencive and not as good as a, GIBSON 120 out of 100, EPIPHONE is 100 out of 100. also. Epiphone has NEAR gibson quality finishes. so you can hardly tell them apart unless u hear it play and see the brand name. its not like squire and fender cuase squire is just crappy unlike fender dude. i have both models with near same finishes. just go with an epiphone unless ur rich 2 get a gibson. thats all i can say
The Fender standard Squiers and Custom series are pretty well made. The problem is that they don't come set up very good, which is a problem with most Guitars. I always set up intonation, action, and rod when buy a new Guitar. Most of the people who think Squiers are bad, are kids who can't get good tone out of any Guitar. I tried some of these Epiphones though, and the cheap ones were really bad, these ones are okay, the pickups scream pretty good.
it depends on which one you get obviously because there are different price range and the expensive ones are good but still not as good as gibson...But theyre a great guitarre to buy if you dont have the money to buy yourself a gibson but still want a similar sound.
I definitely agree that the Gibson Les Paul is way better (I own a Gibson). But honestly for the budget conscious musician, if you get NOT a les paul nuclear or whatever but an EPIPHONE LES PAUL STANDARD which looks exactly like the Gibson Les Paul Standard right down to the inlays, tuners, control knobs and binding (just no the brand on the headstock) and swap out the pickups for the Gibson ones, you'll be able to fool many professionals with not only the look but the sound and playability.
no no no no no, epiphone was already a music company when gibson took them over and started making lower grade guitars. I have an epi les paul and i LOVE it. it has a great sound, its perfect.
I had an epi LP for years. I went the whole rewire route. SD PAF humbuckers, Gibson Pots, NOS caps, Switch craft jack and switch. I wired it as a 50's LP. Don't get me wrong. I played it for years. Its a great starter instrument. Its a great guitar to learn what makes a guitar works. I bought a new Gibson LP standard this year. There is no comparison.
O.K. so you buy that guitar $300. change all the hardware set the guitar up etc. invest,.. lets go crazy $500. more and still save? How much? About $2000. bucks..... The choice is easy....NUFF SAID.KEEPON STRUMMIN...DALLAS
You should try out a Gibson LP studio. They are possibly lesser quality than some epiphone LP's. Also, if you are worried about build quality and still want a cheaper paul than a gibson, check out epiphones elitist line.
Epiphone sucks, If I only had 4 or 5 hundred bucks to spend I would rather have a MIM strat. I have had absolutely no luck with anything made by Epiphone and the guitar weighs a tonne.
I'm just saying that a good Gibson guitar is a superior instrument. You get use to things when you don't have something to compare it with. After having a nice Gibson for a long time and then trying the EPI imported stuff it just doesn't cut it for me.
You're complaining about the guitar weighing too much? aww, who gives fuck? Some of the Epiphones coming out now are great, some are not. Gotta try them to find a good one, same with the MIM's Fenders, I got a horrible Strat, traded it back and got a Tele, which was great
Some epiphones are decent. I tried out the 1966 reissue sg which looks great and has a sweet tone. However if you picked up a good old gibson, even the faded series, the epiphone just doesn't compare. Epi's are good for a the budget conscious player which is why gibson started epiphone in the first place.
wtf?! gibson didnt start epiphone! they bought epiphone. les paul had a les paul with both companys before gibson had anything to do with epiphone. get it right mate :)
Epiphone have also produced high-end instruments, like the Casino, and ES335 clones, as played by George Harrison, and John Lennon-who could afford Gibsons if so desired, but they chose and Epiphone for the tonality and quality of the Epiphone...
It is just pathetic. Epiphone is a great stuff and is an American brand as well (purchased by Gibson after the WW II). Great musicians use their instruments and are using them. And their Les Pauls have no problem with broken necks (talking about Quality Control, btw). This guy probably spent significant amount of time to find this nonsense color, cause I have never seen any Gibson product coming out with this bullshit design. If it's true, Gibson sucks, dear.
I recently bought a Epi LP with birdseye maple top, waxdipped alnico pups, grover heads..and it weighs over 10 pounds! It fell flat on its face last week and aprt from breaking a volume pot and a lil off the nut its still solid as a rock. B4 I bought it I tried a real LP and could hardly tell a difference that new pups wouldnt fix.
This may be just me, but isn't this guitar better sounding than that black les paul studio he reviewed? It's the same crapy amp in a same room, yet this one sounds way better.
no dude! Masterbilts are only an acoustic line, and you're sooo right, Epiphone masterbilts are WAAAY better than Gibson, in quality value and most important, SOUND, but I got fooled with this guitar too, was for the headstock right?
Crazy 90's inventions, Im sure no one will buy that nowadays!

Bardock992 2 years ago 4
Well it's true... Little did they know when they did it that the Epiphones would turn out pretty much just as good as the Gibsons =P
Canadianspunge 2 years ago
Epiphone was originally a competitor to Gibson, and made excellent quality instruments starting back in the 1800's, all the way into the 1950's when Gibson bought them out. Epi may NOW be Gibson's low-end brand (though yeah, a lot of their stuff is amazing by itself), but used to the were their own thing.
TheRoughSound 2 years ago

BigMateo24 2 years ago
This is the difference between a service shop and a warehouse outlet. Getting a good deal is cool but you'll still have to follow it up with a set up and service afterwards because a guitar bends and twists and has to be maintained. Thanks for the comment.
johnhguitar 2 years ago
I know that, but one would expect a new top of the line guitar that costs around 2000 bucks to be set up and well condioned when you buy it.
BigMateo24 2 years ago
Since the item is already popular, they just expect the customer will have it set up without them having to bother with it.
johnhguitar 2 years ago
Amen! support small local music stores! i rather pay the extra 10 percent to help a local business and get a better guitar than save a little cash. I bought my gibson les paul at a local store and i didnt mind giving an extra 180
spencerwincer181 2 years ago
@BigMateo24 Your only problem is that your in a store where probably more than 30 peple have picked up that guitar before you. Maybe even more. If that guitar isnt cleaned for a month, you can expect that guitar to feel terrible. Gibson's do feel extremely good, you just need to find a local music store that supplies les pauls.

I think that Gibson is kind of overrated. I went down to the guitar center today and played both a Gibson LP and an Epiphone LP. The only big difference i noticed was the Price tag.
eplpsp2 2 years ago 4
lol.... i think you just compared a well made epiphone to a badly made gibson. in general, IN GENERAL - gibsons are better made. OF course there are exceptions
speckofdust21 2 years ago 2
One of the saalesman at Guitar Center showed me one big difference in the necks between an Epi and a Gibson. It looked like the neck was weaker in certain part of the neck on the Epi and of course the Pups were audinley weaker than the Gibsons Pups.
hawg427 2 years ago
Love your vids John. I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison of a Gibson and an Epi -- with you blindfold :-). I've no doubt you could tell the difference, but how quickly?
Folks, if you were offered a brand new unmarked Gibson in a reputable store (or even right at the factory), how much would the price have to be adjusted before you'd buy it?
Now ask yourself why the price should be any different at all -- that is if it's a good playing, well constructed guitar that you actually want.
shankandbrisket 2 years ago 4
i forgot to add-the zebra pups on the review guitar aren't the original pups. the original pups have a silver cover with the 'e" on them, and they're way hotter than stock pups. find someone who has one of these pauls and give it a wail. you'll like it.

Gibson's $2000 plus models do sound better to my ears that the Epi $800 lp customs. But they sure as hell do not sound $1200 better. Honestly I don't think they sound $600 better. Epi definitely gives you more guitar for your money.
vaporarrows 2 years ago 28
But there's a thing about playing with an authentic Gibson Les Paul that you just can't copy. It's like buying an Audi and trying to make it feel like a Mercedes. Plus the Gibson's have better build quality than the Epi's (epiphones are made in china)
EndangeredSoup 2 years ago
Agree to an extent. Plus not to mention Gibsons horrible QC these days.
MurderSoul216 2 years ago
LOL he looks so hurt to be having to review an epiphone. I think he got home, bathed, and sat in front of a mirror playing a Gibson after this. The bottom line, dont get the cheaper epiphone's, get the $500+ such as the standard and custom les paul. I tried an epiphone les paul special II and it was terrible but my epiphone les paul custom MIK is great.
fkthsh 2 years ago 3
thought that the epiphones had a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard so its not all mahogany like a gibson and instead of the nitro cellulouse lacker like on a gibson they uses polyurithane lacker to make then alot more affordable than a gibson as well as the obvious pick-ups ect.
YellowFender 2 years ago
The nitro cellulose takes weeks to apply to a LP therefore the price difference. Also, the NC wil allow the wood in the body to age whilst the polyurethane seals the body for life. In time the NC grows thinner therefore the body can damage easier but u get that tone of an old guitar.

can someone help me out?
i realy like the gibson sound and everything but am scared that an epiphone will be the gibson version of a squire which i hate......or is it more like the relationship between an american fender and a mexican fender?

Your best bet is to go to any guitarstore and try for yourself. But my opinion is that Epis are bad.
MistahhB 2 years ago
Who do you think they are bad? i'm afraid of buying one and having it be a peice of junk.
CarlyMoses 2 years ago
The necks are too big, the strings are hard to push down, sounds akward, etc. But if you get yourself a more expensive Epiphone it could work. Go to a Guitarstore and try out different models. You should also check out guitars that are not in your pricerange just to get the feel of a more expensive instrument. Hope that helps!
MistahhB 2 years ago
Epis are great.... get one
scaflan2000 2 years ago
They're only bad if you're a close minded person who has lived with Gibsons or Martins all your life. You just have to think of the price. This guitar for 1/5 of the price of a Gibson? That is a AMAZING value. And remember all guitars are different. Someone may have an AMAZING $200 dollar guitar when some unlucky guy got a piece of crap $500. Remember too always play the guitar before you buy it.
PotentialFreedom 2 years ago 2
you also could consider the gibson LP studio. i got mine for $800, and i love it. =shrug-
katanaxi 2 years ago
I have an epiphone les paul special II. It's their second cheapest model. I think it is a decent guitar. It sounds good, (Only good cuz I have a shit 15 watt amp lol) I would get a standard strat for the price of the epiphone les paul standard. Both are good.
MitchRulzWorld 2 years ago
The Squier you probably hated was a low end Afinty Squier. It's the same with any product line. They have their low end junk then they have some better ones. In this case with Epiphone, it's the same, The more expensive ones play nice while the $100 one is gonna be junk...
TheMadMusicMan 2 years ago 4
Yeah the $500 epiphone Les Paul is completely different from the $200 one.
PotentialFreedom 2 years ago
$500 for an electric? Man, if you has studied a bit harder in school you would have had a job that allowed you to buy a decent guitar.

lukesteele1 2 years ago
ok dude here is a REALLY BASIC SUMMERY DUDE. if you want to get that really nice and TOTTALY close gibson sound for a very low price... like 300-1000$... then go for a epiphone. gibson is just MORE EXPENCIVE like around 3000$. but both sounds nearly the same plays the same.. is just that epiphone is made in CHINA with not so good materials and gib is in the USA which is better. so, if you want a gibson les paul and on a very low buget, then go for a epiphone
stockmarket101 2 years ago
I ACTULLY HAVE BOTH GIBSON AND EPIPHONE LES PAULs. like i said, epiphone is just less expencive and not as good as a, GIBSON 120 out of 100, EPIPHONE is 100 out of 100. also. Epiphone has NEAR gibson quality finishes. so you can hardly tell them apart unless u hear it play and see the brand name. its not like squire and fender cuase squire is just crappy unlike fender dude. i have both models with near same finishes. just go with an epiphone unless ur rich 2 get a gibson. thats all i can say
stockmarket101 2 years ago
The WWIII looks at bit tacky. They coulda just gone with the radiactivity symbol or something - cliched, but would look better lol
FretMunky88 2 years ago
The Fender standard Squiers and Custom series are pretty well made. The problem is that they don't come set up very good, which is a problem with most Guitars. I always set up intonation, action, and rod when buy a new Guitar. Most of the people who think Squiers are bad, are kids who can't get good tone out of any Guitar. I tried some of these Epiphones though, and the cheap ones were really bad, these ones are okay, the pickups scream pretty good.
TheMadMusicMan 2 years ago
no. I would say that epiphone is much better related to gibson than squire is to fender.
feelee15 2 years ago 4
it depends on which one you get obviously because there are different price range and the expensive ones are good but still not as good as gibson...But theyre a great guitarre to buy if you dont have the money to buy yourself a gibson but still want a similar sound.
chrissme2 2 years ago
I definitely agree that the Gibson Les Paul is way better (I own a Gibson). But honestly for the budget conscious musician, if you get NOT a les paul nuclear or whatever but an EPIPHONE LES PAUL STANDARD which looks exactly like the Gibson Les Paul Standard right down to the inlays, tuners, control knobs and binding (just no the brand on the headstock) and swap out the pickups for the Gibson ones, you'll be able to fool many professionals with not only the look but the sound and playability.

So huge that i was unable to buy it ... even 1/4 cheaper !
kalisteboat 2 years ago
You should try out a Gibson LP studio. They are possibly lesser quality than some epiphone LP's. Also, if you are worried about build quality and still want a cheaper paul than a gibson, check out epiphones elitist line.
dart1971 2 years ago
Thank you for the advice ;-)
I have tryed some mid range PRS guitars and they are more versatile.
A sound very close to the LP Studio and the possibility to have a strong and crystal sound like some Fender guitars.
... and also Hagström has a wonderful Super Swede model at 400 euros ... amazing !
Bye my friend.
kalisteboat 2 years ago
Epiphone sucks, If I only had 4 or 5 hundred bucks to spend I would rather have a MIM strat. I have had absolutely no luck with anything made by Epiphone and the guitar weighs a tonne.
spillingmachine 3 years ago
What do you have against Epiphone? I have an Epi Les Paul Special two and that baby is sweet!!!
MitchRulzWorld 2 years ago 2
I'm just saying that a good Gibson guitar is a superior instrument. You get use to things when you don't have something to compare it with. After having a nice Gibson for a long time and then trying the EPI imported stuff it just doesn't cut it for me.
johnhguitar 2 years ago
You're complaining about the guitar weighing too much? aww, who gives fuck? Some of the Epiphones coming out now are great, some are not. Gotta try them to find a good one, same with the MIM's Fenders, I got a horrible Strat, traded it back and got a Tele, which was great
StreeTRacR008 2 years ago
Some epiphones are decent. I tried out the 1966 reissue sg which looks great and has a sweet tone. However if you picked up a good old gibson, even the faded series, the epiphone just doesn't compare. Epi's are good for a the budget conscious player which is why gibson started epiphone in the first place.
taccaron1 2 years ago
correction: epiphone was its own line of instruments until gibson bought them
lil7upboy 2 years ago
wtf?! gibson didnt start epiphone! they bought epiphone. les paul had a les paul with both companys before gibson had anything to do with epiphone. get it right mate :)
sat158 3 years ago 3
He knows that, as we recorded a few other Epiphone reviews the same day where he went over that subject (I didn't post to YT). His exact words are,
"Gibson put out their budget line of guitars, their imported guitars, with the name Epiphone ..."
which is not the same thing as saying they started Epiphone.

johnhguitar 3 years ago
Epiphone have also produced high-end instruments, like the Casino, and ES335 clones, as played by George Harrison, and John Lennon-who could afford Gibsons if so desired, but they chose and Epiphone for the tonality and quality of the Epiphone...
GalaxyHorse 3 years ago
It is just pathetic. Epiphone is a great stuff and is an American brand as well (purchased by Gibson after the WW II). Great musicians use their instruments and are using them. And their Les Pauls have no problem with broken necks (talking about Quality Control, btw). This guy probably spent significant amount of time to find this nonsense color, cause I have never seen any Gibson product coming out with this bullshit design. If it's true, Gibson sucks, dear.
