My aunt and two little cousins, a four a six year olds, walked in on her hanging, and they had to call the police. My little cousin still thinks that Haley's necklace was too tight. @lindscatlover Not in all cases, I think its just ill advisement on many parents parts...I look at parents today which especially in urban areas is getting younger and younger...their collective parenting style is counterproductive to a successful young adult. You have to remain conscious of not teaching your kid your personal bias and prejudices. Without a radically significant outside influence children are DOOMED to become carbon copies of their parents/guardians.

Kids should all be taught to respect and value one another as people, even if they don't agree with or even like one another. It's so important to teach our kids the power of compassion for others. Also that they can intervene by reaching out and doing SOMETHING... telling an adult, reaching out to another bullied child and letting that child know that someone cares.., not just be helpless bystanders. Keep the communication going with your kids and help them to do the right thing.

I agree with you to a point with what a lot of people have said, But pure pressure from other children is tremendous and kids feel they have to be in the "in crowd" and accepted from the other kids in there school and they gang up and bully anyone who is unique and different. But I agree the Parents (which I am) need to talk to your children on a regular basis and guide them in a proper fashion. No one should be bullied and everyone should be accepted for their differences.

It is best to write out a very official letter to the school. I personally did this, and in the army. I wrote direct to the colonel. The bully was my superior, and he was demoted. He thanked me later for it.

If it works in the army, it is much easier in a school situation. Writing a letter is action, and it takes guts. It is also the best way to deal with the situation. The letter must be kept completely confidential by you, not mention names and handed to a senior teacher, not the head.

When I was bullied in grade school due to my race and skin color, the teachers either didn't care, or were too busy to notice. I started bein bullied when i was in 3rd grade the year i moved from texas to PA. I had an accent and wasdifferent from the other kids. they never gave me a chance. They never even warmed to me after my accent had gone.I was teased mercilessly from 3rd grade to middle of 10th(verbal not physical). I attempted suicide many times.

In 10th i moved to a new school and got a fresh start since my accent was long gone these kids didn't see me as a mark. It was nice to not have to fear school each day.

Also let me say that noone becomes a teacher b/c they are worried about income. Most people become teachers for the love of children. It is the lowest paid professional job so you start out for the love but when you deal with children who have no respect/home training then it easlity becomes about the paycheck. The American school system needs a whole new evaluation!!! My son (also 11) used 2 have seizures and has dev. problems, he was constantly bullyied and teased. My son did a good job on his work, showed a so-called friend, the boy teased him and the principal called it "friendly teasing" and they have a no bullying policy, I now homeschool my children now because I REFUSE 2 let any1 take my son's self esteem/confidence away from him my heart goes out 2 every1going through this awful travesty.
