One of the least annoying "reviews" on youtube. Though I would have liked a little more detail on certain rare features, like color calibration. Also, you should calibrate the monitor for video or do secondary cc on the video in post.
What seperates this (performace wise) from lets say an HP Envy 17? Are the deticated graphics on the thinkpad more purpose built for CAD drawings and renderings rather than gameplay renderings?
Good review, but dude, you are running an i7 and 16gb ram and complaining about battery life. Intel processors are power hogs, no getting around that.
I have been using the W510 for more than a while. This video review is spot on. This machine is a excellent choice I work in Video and Audo although the Thinkvantage seems a bit too much value added marketing.
ugly? I think it looks great w/ my black G-shock, black leatherman multitool on my side and a muddy pair of black working boots on! shiny white thing looks gay to me! peace!
this is more like an ad more than a review. the only negative things he said were the thickness and the power consumption, which is a no brainer.
where is the review about its touch screen? where is the review about the keyboard flex? far away from a good review. more like a salesman if you ask me. I would take what I am saying as positive cristisim, rather than deleting my comment.
i ordered a w510 SEPT 29TH and its still not here.....holy shit lenovo, WTF! my thesis is due in just over a month, when the hell am I going to get my computer!>!>>!>!>!
I love my Lenovo g550 I know it is just basic but it is a great little notebook really feels solid and just works. I would get another Lenovo in a second. For doing Video Editing or heavy gaming I would never trade in my water cooled PC for any laptop.
I purchased a T510 six months ago. A week ago the backlight broke. Tried to register and use the IBM/Lenovo online repair form, but they just closed my repair request with no comment. Toll free phone service sent me back and forth from one number to another. So I payed expensive for bad quality of hardware and unexisting service. I definitely expected more from IBM/Lenovo.
I am a mechanical engineering student and this is one heck of a beast machine for engineering! It outperforms my friends desktop computer that he built specifically for engineering purposes!
I've been using mine since march, only have problems running older games which have some troubles with turboboost. The FPS drops rapidly b4 crashing. Strangly nuff i can avoid this by using minimum power with almost no graphic compromise. It gets alarmingly hot n fan's kinda shitty. With a cooling pad and AC it won't be a problem though. I get waaay better performance in AutoCAD and Red Desk & Video editing n encoding that a sissy macbook
Like my earlier desktop replacements: gets extremely hot, burning to death out everything inside, as well as my desk/ body parts. Probable extremely noisy fan, that collects tons of nasty dirt inside the unit; workshop accessible only.
No numeric key pad. No mention od audio quality. Very unprofessional & poor review of what is probably a poor & unreliable unit.
Greg Zeng, Retired (medical) IT Consultant, Australian Capital Territory
@grey0powerlessnesss - You might want to get that thing looked at. Mine only gets really warm when it's got a big batch job in Photo Shop, and FS uses every available resource anywho.
As far as the lack of numeric keypad...don't know what to tell you. I hate my keyboards being off center.
@GriNGoLocoTe I recently got my W510 and it has a VGA out and a DisplayPort out. The displayport is the best. it carrys audio and HD video. You can get a displayport to HDMI converter so you can use it on an HDMI tv, projector or screen
you know that not evreything is about the screen size...
like, for example. this thing has a quad core processor, 4 GB of ram, a touchscreen, a high end GPU, loads of ports evreywhere and it's easily upgradable...
@oztronix I don't agree It have the best resolution on the market (Full HD) 1920*1080 also it is cheaper then dell in fact. I just but this W510 with extreme 920XM, 8Gb of ram and the multi-touch display, all top features dor 2457.74 taxe included, don't check the price over the website, call lenovo and talk to a representative I saved 1750$ just by caling then (40% off)... That's a deal my friend !
The keyboard in my W510 doesn't flex that much even if I apply much pressure to it. They must have removed the keyboard (maybe to see upper ram slots) and installed it wrong or something
But to be honest - my W500 had almost no flex at all and W510 had more but I only noticed it after reading your comment. So wth regular use you want notice any flex
Thank you so much, David, for your great review! I received my ThinkPad W510 yesterday and am still busy exploring it. The more I use it, the more I love it. So far it has wowed me several times. This system is loaded with many one-of-a-kind, innovative features both in hardware and software and is like no other laptops that I have experienced. It’s fast, intuitive and elegantly built. It’s an asset that is worth an investment. You will thank yourself that you buy this ThinkPad.
@ThE4EvRPs3GaMeR Personally, I don't even think it looks ugly. I like my laptop to have a good, solid look and feel to it, and ThinkPads have always fit the bill for that.
@ThE4EvRPs3GaMeR No Kidding!!! So many people freak out about the appearance. Sure gloss and 83 LED color changing fan got me noticed at the coffee shop today. Too bad it didn't help me pwn noobz
This laptop is one of the best because you can do so much mods to it without voiding the warranty, the inside circuits are just very good design. you can overclock the hell out of it and its still running great. One of the best workstations you can buy.

Hey, Lenovo:
How about a dedicated (supplied with the BOX)
little JOYSTICK, that fits into thal little REDY THINGY BUTTON,
and for the kids - few dedicated games for it , as well ?
(and dedicated FUNCTIONALITY for it). ???
Browsing with finger on that little red button may be hurtfull...

@oztronix - I take it you've never used the red button before. Really, they're not that bad. I use mine when my mouse becomes uncomfortable.
