Although I know he had a lot of success with Wings, I never really enjoyed their music and thought McCartney made a mistake conjuring up that band especially after how great his first two solo albums were.
Absolutely the BEST McCartney album by far. I should know...I was a kid and got to watch part of one of these sessions at A&R Recording.... The Tape Delay sounds AMAZING!
Ram is an absolute masterpiece of McCartney. If you know someone who doesn't know Paul....this is his great work. If they still don't like him after this record....they should retire to the sh*t that abounds otherwise......
When you listen to RAM, think John. Because in every tune, there's a "dig" towards John somewhere in there. Paul was an angry guy, lucky for us. THIS IS GREAT MUSIC. STILL !!
Paul's "She's Leaving Home" has the same origins of John's "A Day In The Life" and, lyrically and instrumentally speaking, you all know which one is the winner here.
@menoziinrevoltado lyrically it's hard to tell, i would say a day in the life, though both are master-pieces, instrumentally, she's leaving home wins, and just for the record a day in the life showcases how the partnership between paul and john was what really made the difference
Although I think "A Day In The Life" wins, I agree that, if it wasn't Paul's help, the song would never be the same. It doesn't happen on "She's Leaving Home" in my opinion though because John had just a (boring/sad) backing-vocal job there, while Paul had an entire up-beat verse on ADITL. Really made the difference! I love both, I love the band, they are all my idols and I don't have a favorite Beatle but sometimes one was more successful them the other (i.e. ADITL versus SLH in my opinion).
the only mccartney album other then with the beatles that I thought was awesome. I man yeah they were all okay but I always thought the song writing was way to corny.
"When I thought I could call you my friend" - clearly a note about John, this and "Too many people" were mentioned by John as the cause for him to write "How do you sleep". There was much of bitterness among them, even George joined with his "Wah Wah" against Paul. Only Ringo stayed friend with all of them. Good that they reconcilled later.
@johnnydemo9 Yeah, but he also had "Early 1970" - a song in which he is sentimental about all his three friends, thinks about what are they doing now and how he´d like to play with them again. Released in 1971... He was the one who went well on with all three others...
John definitely saw himself as a target of this song, and it seems like it with the lyrics referring to Paul, George, and Ringo as three legs and John Lennon riding the horse (heroin), thus deactivating his crucial artistic imput to the band, especially during the infamous "Get Back" sessions, etc.
david spinozza played lead on this one. great NY session player. also played with lennon. too many people was the song that really pissed lennon off but this one sounds like its about him too. it was definitely on pauls mind. why else would he put a picture of one beetle f6cking another on the cover.
Actually one could say all the bullshit began when Paul put out his little interview thing with his first album...that pissed off John who attacked him and just about everyone else in the famous Lennon Remembers Rolling Stone interview...then Paul nailed him back on Ram and John did a touche on Imagine. It seemed like Paul was trying to patch things up on Wildlife, and mercifully it was all over by 1973. I remember feeling terrible about my beloved Beatle boys fighting back in those days.
how did those comments get a neg. Anyway, I know how you feel about "our Beetle Boys" they were part of and a big part of music, and music is a big part of one's childhood/teen years usually. It does not get bigger than the Beatles. Unless you experienced the Beatles influence on everything, you can not imagine it.
I had abusive parents and was a miserable little wretch persecuted by insane catholic nuns, and spat upon by many and the BEatles was the only thing that made me happy. Despite all the miserable stuff that happened I can say my childhood was happy mainly because of them
Cep't he tends to write the tune first and then matches the words. Sometimes it works (Band on the Run) and sometimes doesn't (She brings me everything and tenderly) and I won't spare you the Whoa Wah Whoa Whao's in "My Love"....My Love Does it Good! Deep Lyrics, Man!
@28if I believe that Paul was trying to rewrite "Something" with "My Love"...it has the same basic structure...Something is far far superior of course...
Well its all a matter of taste and opinion so I won't argue that. Don't get me wrong, I love Paul and I was always rooting for him to do something great. In my opinion his best albums were McCartney and Band On The Run.
Yeah, I do like how Ram still has a home-made sound to it like "McCartney" does, despite being recorded in CBS Studios in New York. You almost feel like you're on the Scottish Farm with Paul, Linda and the kids, that's the magic of it: The Heart of the country
@gchristi626 - It wasn't all recorded at Columbia...When there were problems there, he moved over to A&R Recording Studios (Studio A-1, one of the best sounding Studios ever...)
Yes Heather has one leg but she's also got $100 million of McCartney's bucks!!! Just shows you how one lame, useless, fucking asshole can can get the best of a situation!!!
LOL, funny. I think John was reading too deep into this one, remember John did go out of his head for a while in the early 70's. Paranoia, alcohol and accepting interviews weren't a good mix. I'd read an interview Paul did in 1993 about this album and he said, it's not about John. Martha (of Martha my Dear fame) was Paul's sheepdog, and it actually only had 3 legs.
The rest was just writing words to a melody and Paul was never "the thinking mans Beatle" lyrically.
What are you talking about? In the Beatles, Paul was great with lyrics. "Hey Jude" has a beautiful set of lyrics, and that was all Paul. Same goes with "Yesterday". Also see "Blackbird" and "Eleanor Rigby". All very thoughtful lyrics from Paul. And possibly the most famous Beatles lyric originated from Paul "the love you take equals the love you make".
In the Beatles, Paul was just as much of a thoughtful lyricist as the others.
The haunting lyric "when I thought you was my friend" sure sounds like a retort against John but in reality I think Paul just wrote fun songs for beatle fans and others to enjoy. RAM and ALL THINGS MUST PASS by Beatle George rival IMAGINE as the best works by any artist including Beethoven!
I think the most heavy metal songs on the beatles became from John Lennon, with I want you (she's so heavy); look to one of my uploaded vids called the beatles influence on the heavy metal. I listened all my life heavy metal. I can be wrong but i know what i talking about.
He has a great voice, but never a rock voice. Probably he is the best voice in POP, but in ROCK i think John Lennon was the best by far, tough Paul was better voice, but a little "effeminate" (with all my respects).
I agree he probably doesn't have the greatest "rock voice". Freddy Mercury...Robert Plant,I could go on. But if you listen to Paul singing "Why don't we do it in the road" or his backing vocals on "Come together" it's not what I would call effeminate. But I know what you mean, his voice can be very sweet like in "I will". I love Lennons voice too, they complimented each other so well.
Lol, thank you dude, i already listened all the beatles discography. Listen to Everybody's Got Something to Hide, i think is more heavy metal than helter skelter, i think helter skelter is more punk.
well, I don't know what style is each song, what I mean is that the voice of Paul is more powerfull than the voice of John. But if you listen to "Yer Blues" in that song John show a great heavy voice.
