  • He said "Ma-h-z-da" its now Maz-da

  • @cutekittins I'm betting you're from Australia.

  • The fuel economy of this car is actually brilliant, sure it averages 18-20mpg which is quite low, but if you drive like a maniac with pedal to the metal all day long it will still do 18mpg. No other car in the world does that. I love my first gen Rx7!

  • lol the poor mans porsche they used to call it

  • @tryandlisten No, that would be what you drive. LOL

  • @TheLizardKing1967 oh ok i see what you did there, very clever. o_0

  • I own that year model I have to replace the engine once cost me around $800.oo a rebuilt engine I lifted by myself......is a good car but the fuel economy suck.

  • The engine is so small one person can lift and fuel economy suck.

  • @Tostito12345 if you can lift 97 kilograms without the tranny attached to it, I suspect that you are on steroids then. That would also explain the roid rage about something that beats the living daylight out of any V8

  • Record players came standard in these cars. Buit not just 33rpm.. 45 AND 78 rpm. Now THATS quality craftsmanship.

  • Six thousand bucks?!?!

  • I love how they advertised 0-50 times on 70s cars to make them seem faster. Old Porsche 914 ads did the same thing.

  • Just bought a 1979 rx7. Anybody who reads this and has tech info, advice or useful knowledge on this model send me a message.

  • @EZFI Check out rx7club.com there is more info than you could ever need. You want to start in the 1st Gen section.

  • @atdewey Thanks bro. Already started the overhaul!

  • wow thats some old shots of what is now called pacific raceways.....

  • @badassxr50r I was there 3 weeks ago for the drag races! Small world!

  • @StanleyKu Yeah I am amazed they used that track to do the commercial honestly but that's cool! What drags did you go to?

  • @badassxr50r It was the NHRA drag races. I was there (Auburn, WA) july 11 and 12th. Veteran alcohol driver Mark Nivers died on the last day when his chute ripped off of his car.

  • @StanleyKu Oh sweet deal. Yeah I feel bad for the guy but at least he died doing what he loves and not in a bed from cancer. I was going to go but it was either NHRA or Formula D and well since I got into the Hella flush event at formula d. I went to that. I think they need to go back to a full 1/4 mile drag tho not that 1000' crap.... That guy dying shows right there that you can die at any distance. Death is part of racing. It's a fact. :/

  • I had a 79 S1 RX7 with a 13b bridgeport in it. I was quick enough for me to evade the cops and they were in an SS V8 persuit. I loved that car 4 kids can't fit in the back unfortunately. I'd love to find an old one and do it up again just for cruising this must be the most fun car to drive of all time.

  • They should make these again just to annoy post-modernists.

  • dat 260z is sex

  • The RX-7 it's a great car

  • deffinately a car ahead of its time, in styling and the non-conventionl engine. even though the engine did have its shortcomings. im going to try to find an old one thats in very good condition. fun to drive. i had all 3 generations from age 16 to 19. tranny went out in 1st gen, engine in 2nd gen, flipped 3rd gen. total loss.

  • @danrichards23 tranny LOL

  • That was the most reliable, best selling RX-anything that was ever sold in the USA. It also amassed an enviable record of racing and rallying victories. It was truely one of the best sports cars of the '70s and '80s. For once, a car that lived up to the hype.

  • I have this car EXACTLY.

I love her. She is amazing.

    I dry hump her reguarly.

    Thank you.

  • Starring at $6400?!!! 4 years later it jumped to $9000!!! WTF?!!

    Inflation sucks...

  • @deepmelody1991, in mid-1985, the FC started at $13,000. Price doubled in 6 years. Gotta love the 1980s hyperinflation :(.

  • Ahh, the Japanese Porcshe

  • Anyone know what the music in this commercial is? it's epic.

  • All Mazdas Are Rotary Engine?

  • no only r100 rx2 rx3 rx4 rx7 rx8 capella rx500 and mazda cosmo preety much till the early 80s they were all rotary, but not no more..

  • RX2??? Lmao.. would the RX9 have a rotary engine?? actually in japan mazda still make the Rx-7 but i dont know if its FD-3s rotary..

  • actually they stoped in 2001-2002 model year and the rx2 was a rotary buddy!

and it was just a fd3s with a face lift on the bumpers and lights etc but same chassis and engine

  • rx-2 is not so ugly it apears with the first generations celicas..weird.. FD-3S was the best..mate Rx-8 sucks..check my RX-9 video and coment :D you will like mazda fan

  • no.

  • My mums first car :)

  • 5400 dollars wooooooooott !!!

    lol

  • i have 1 of these im going to restore, i have some vids of it if you wanna check it out.

  • @sksgr: I don't think there would be any Mazda USA today if it wasn't for this car.

  • dam, are you 12? Or just not a rotar head. Well I am. might be just a old dumb car to you. But to me it the begining of a legend.

( n if u put a cosmo 20B motor in it, it will suck the doors off of alot of wut is out there)

  • I have a second generation stock for sale 1987 tubro 2..

  • 0-50 in 6.3 seconds...pretty fast for back then

  • RX-7 was one of the most bigger success of Mazda in usa

  • Yeah. Then they came out with the MX-5 and completely re-defined the word "success".

    Mazda kicks ass.

  • They are valuable collector item, and getting more & more rare in original un-molested condition. I have one for sale on Craigslist in Seattle.....check it out! I wish I didn't have to part with it. Original 73,000 mile 5- speed...white/red I'll miss her!

  • Great to see the original US commercial.

The RX-7 Series One shown originally came with the 12A engine.

A Series One RX-7, in original condition, is now a valuable collectors item.

The introduction to that commercial was right- a classic!

  • I wish I could have taken it off your hands, but I got an 84' on its way from Kirkland soon. I hope you got her a good home.

Hey I never noticed that this was filmed at Seattle International Raceway... neat.

  • man i love that car, i love them so much i went and bought a 1980 rx7.

  • finally its here. ive been waiting so long to get one!

  • Ahh yes.

This is the stuff wet dreams are made of.

    Err...wait.

  • greatness

  • You are just the type of person who doesn't truly love driving.

  • Until you get a drive in one you shouldn't say anything... I would love to see you pee your pants when that babies going sideways on a dirt road at 80 mph. That was it's first year in the U.S. in 79, what do you expect it to do... 0-60 in 4 seconds...

  • ahaha grow a dick sunshine. your diahatsu charade doesnt even do that today!!

  • Actually, 0-60 was more like 8-9 for the original RX-7. Believe it or not, that was actually decently quick for an affordable sportscar in the late '70s. During that time even the Corvette at 0-60 times around 7-8 sec... only slightly faster than that little RX-7. Also, advertisements at that time usually showed 0-50mph times because the numbers looked more favorable that way and also because of the federally mandated 55mph speed limit.

  • Historic debut for MAZDA Rotary-engine sports car.

In Japan, symbolic color of this model was green.

  • Este es el mejor carro que se a hecho en el mundo.

  • wtf? 0-50?

  • thats great, i love how much it was lurching under brakes!

  • under 6400 dollars, i wish!

  • Great stuff!, Thank you for sharing this with us.
