  • Could you plant in mounds and they still grow well?? thanks for the info

  • @JPhilyaw1 … If you have good drainage you could plant em on flat ground as well……Donald

  • the way i make the rows is with a rake...would they still work & grow the same, thanks ...Jason

  • @TheWatermelonFarmer ... Hey Jason, They sure would.....Donald

  • thanks for the tips! im gonna try your method this year

  • @TheWatermelonFarmer ... Works every time, keep em watered till they come up.....Donald

  • thanks for the tips!

  • this is wonderful. i really love them,

  • Great video thanks for sharing!

  • @mikeedro ... You're welcome.......Donald

  • Sir I have seen several videos of your gardening/farming and I am Green with envy. You really seem to enjoy what you are doing.

  • @MASTERNCS ... It does keep me busy. Thanks.......Donald

  • Where do you live? It looks dry

  • @topgunXXXI ... On a Louisiana bayou.......Donald

  • Ok, my Cantaloupe are flowering like CRAZY. Looks like they're flowering more than my Cucumbers!!!! lol...The vines are really short though and ain't got a single Cantaloupe yet!! Why?? It's been VERY dry here. No rain in months! Been having to tote water to the Cucumbers, Squash, Watermelons, and Cantaloupe (where the sprinkler don't reach).

  • @231MasseyFerguson ...Give em time....Donald

  • I live in Hawaii heh so things are pretty quick

  • How are. Yours ??

  • @123pivot456 ...Got a few flowers but the vines are still small. No rain so things are slow to grow......Donald

  • awesome i have my plants ive alreaDY GOT FLOWERS HEH!!

  • @123pivot456 ...good job......Donald

  • I liked your video very much.

  • hey i saw this and lot well iv got honey dew seeds and went and planted then my little melon pach if u can call it that its just a 6 by 8 that i tilld i planted four in the ground and ten in the house im really just hoping for a couple of good honey dews well my quitions is it to early to be looking for little sprout in the pach it is a little chilly but its post to warm up

  • @2010bowhunter ...If it's a little cool they just grow a little slower till it starts to really warm up.....Donald

  • I just planted cantaloupe and i live in nebraska, do they grow well here?

  • @RaymondsPlantProduce ...I don't see why not......Donald

  • Great video. Love your down-home style of presenting.

  • @Jimaera ...Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video.....Donald

  • You have some really great, informative videos. I've only ever grown some potted herbs & tomatoes in my yard and this year we're going to try our hand at some real veggies! Thank you! :)

  • @AskCarrieLee ...Stick to the basics, don't fall for the gimmicks out there and you'll do just fine......Donald

  • I tried to start my honey dew and canteloupe seeds indoors this year but none of them want to sprout. Does it have to be pretty warm for them to germinate?? Everything else from my seeds have gone crazy, just not the melons. Maybe the basement isn't warm enough. The flourescent light sure isn't getting the dirt warm.

  • @brown55061 ...Melons should be one of the first things to come up. No need to start them indoors, just plant them straight in the garden......Donald

  • I planted 7 hills (with 5 seeds per hill) of "Hales Best" Cantaloupe this evenin. I did pretty much exactly as you did in this video except I made a little furrow, on the row, that I planted them in so it would hold the water when I water them... Have you ever planted or heard of this kind of Cantaloupe? If so, do u have any info/ tips? I looked (and asked) for "Sweet and Early" but the lady said she didn't have any and that I was the first person who ever asked for it there.

  • @231MasseyFerguson ...Hales Best Jumbo is a very good variety. I planted both this year. Don't water the last couple of weeks before harvest and they'll be much sweeter. After harvest let them sit on the cabinet for 3 days then put them in the frig. Don't harvest until the fruit comes off the vine with out having to break it off.....Donald

  • @webcajun Do you know why my Cantaloupe hasn't came up yet?? Not one seed has sprouted! How long deos it take?

  • @231MasseyFerguson ...1-2 weeks.....Donald

  • @4everbff3 ...Just planted my cantaloupe today so I should be doing a vid on em in a few months.....Donald

  • Is there a reason why you plant everything on hills, rather than just on the flat ground?

    Thanks.

  • @Cashis4life ... Keeps the plants out of water after a heavy rain also holds moisture during a dry spell.....Donald

  • since this 2 yrs old, do you have a harvesting one we can see?

  • @mlpooley ... it's in one of the videos I did last year but I can't remember which one. I'll try to do an update this year.......Donald

  • I hope you do show us the way cantaloupe just pops off the vine. Honestly I,ve never seen that. Thanks webcajun (The best informative - down to earth gardening show anywhere I think)! Careful some PBS T.V. show might try to hire ya!

  • @spacewalker1551 ... it's in one of the videos I did last year but I can't remember which one. I'll try to do an update this year. A TV show would be too much work and may take all the fun out of it. lol .... Donald

  • That's a lot of space!

  • @GSarovich ... I have plenty room so I use it...... Donald

  • do watermelon need lots of water and heat?

  • @MrYodaddy510 ... actually I do water them more than most of the other vegetables. Most of the summer vegetables do well when temps start coming up..... Donald

  • thanks for responding my garden is completly full and the greenhouse was only four dollars so i thought i would just try it out i planted the seeds on monday and on tuesday i had the greenhouse in the sun i had alot of condensation on the top and i could feel it was warm inside it i plan on putting them in the sun tommorrow.I hope i have a 100% germination rate so i can have 36 watermelon seeds.keep on making those great videos

  • awesome video i bought a jiffy professional greenhouse yesterday and bought two pack of watermelon seed's the first kind was crimson sweets and the second kind were sugar babies do you think they need to be in the hot sun or the shade

  • @taylormccoy ... most vegetables like full sun. Unless you just want to try out your greenhouse you do know you can plant those watermelon directly into the garden....... Donald

  • You are the reason I love youtube! Thanks for your awesome video!!!!

  • @these5acres ... glad you enjoyed and you're welcome....... Donald

  • How did they do? I bought a pack of organic seeds and was told to start them indoors encased in glass. So, I'm waiting for them to germinate. is this a good method, or can I stick them directly in the ground like you? I live in So. California so the weather is lovely now

  • When the weather warms up and you no longer have a chance for any frost plant them directly in the garden ... just like in the video. Once planted keep them watered until they come up and you'll do just fine. I picked more cantaloupe than I knew what to do with...... Donald

  • Hey web cajun. When you thin them out to 2 plants, do you transplant the one's you are omitting from the hill?

  • @TheBrassHole ... No, I just throw them away....... Donald

  • Hey thanx alot. Donald

  • hey, this is kind of a bad question, but if you get seeds out of Cantaloupe and dry them out will they grow if you plant them?

  • They should but if it's a hybrid you may not get the same cantaloupe you started with. Buy yourself a pack of Hale's Best Jumbo and you'll be better off......... Donald

  • Why do you plant your seeds strait in the ground and not start them inside? Does it make them grow stronger?

  • When ever possible (depends on the vegetable) plant your seeds directly into the garden. Saves time and money....... Donald

  • Really? I always thought starting them in some seed trays early in the house, or a greenhouse ( I just use dirt from my feilds ) might make them produce earlier or have a longer producing period.

  • Starting them inside in late winter 3-4 weeks before your last frost date would give fruit about a month sooner. Anytime after that I would just plant them directly into the garden......... Donald

  • ..."now after we've planted the cantaloupe, let's read the instructions" LOLOL!!! Man I haven't laughed that hard in awhile :)

  • Well I had to find out if I did it right. LOL ........ Donald

  • I'm going to have to try this next year. I'm way up in Canada but I'm going to start the seeds early in pots and then put them out in late may or so when the weather starts to get around 65F. June through september should be warm enough to let them grow so I dont know if that will give enough time to produce fruit but lets see. I know there are cantaloupe farms up here but the variety might be different. I am using seeds from a local kind so maybe its all good :)

  • Sounds like you'll have enough time for em to make. Have to try it to find out......... Donald

  • I'm gonna have to find room in our yard to try this.Really appreciate your advice on this!!!

  • Give em plenty room to grow........ Donald

  • I mean if i plant in a pot how much soil do i use?

  • I plant in 3 gal. pots and fill them to about an inch from the top which I guess is about 8 inches....... Donald

  • Comment removed

  • Not sure I understand your question....... Donald

  • I can hear the redwing blackbirds in the background!!

  • Yes ... plenty birds in my area....... Donald

  • hello Donald, would you please tell me how big the cantaloupe plant/tree will be? since now i am having a small one in my backyard and wondering will it be damage my house foundation or not. Thank you.

  • The vines will grow out about 10-12 ft. in all directions along the ground. You don't have a thing to worry about with the house foundation....... Donald

  • i like it because its not hard to understand info, the other ones are all technical and stuff!

THX! i dont think mine will survive but yh!

  • Just push em down about an inch in the ground, water them in and they're good to go....... Donald

  • where did you get the seed of the cantaloupe did you just get it by buying the cantaloupe and taking out the seeds

  • Go to your local garden center or hardware store and buy a package of seeds. You can also Google for online seed companies and order them there.

  • Nice man i love all your videos. keep on making more. can you make a video about cucumbers that your growing because im thinking of growing some

  • I'll keep that in mind.

    Thanks, Donald

  • I found a cantaloupe vine growing in my sweet corn the other day. Came up from last year's garden. It already has several fruit about a pound each. I'll try to get some pictures up on the site soon. Just couldn't bring myself to cutting it.
