  • I used your clip to change my1999 crown vic alternator this morning. I used a F150 alternator that had been dormant in the junk yard - it took a a few full throttles to wake it up. Thanks for your clip - I was back on the road in ten minutes tops.

  • well on my f150 4.9 liter the bottom bolt not the .5 inch but 9/16 bolt is like its welded on cant get it off to change the alternator i like the guy in this vid who just got it off with a simple turn hahahaha

  • This video sucks. Wait till people catch their car on fire or explode their battery cause this clown shoe didn't say anything about disconnecting the battery first! This video has now made me dumber for having watched it. Not to mention removing the belt, wire loom and rear bolt. Ppl do not do this unless you have experience in this field.

  • Why can't we do a little bit more in each of these videos?

  • mark them off with liquid paper or finger nail polish or a marker if not dirty enough.

  • lol is this a ratchet tutorial? Thanks anyway it was helpful

  • thanks to expert village i will never again take my car to a mechanic....it's not that this stuff is easy its that they are too arrogant...hopefully expert village puts some mechanics out of business

  • I like your explanations and appreciate your taking the time to communicate your knowledge.

    Daniel

  • what about disconnecting the battery?

  • The advert was so long it was too hard to like this video.

  • remember. "remove all bolts that look like they could be alternator bolts" hold this guy responsible for the retard that drops an engine on there foot!!!! XD

  • THIS TYPE OF WORK ISN,T WORK HIM,HE SUPPOSE TO BE A PROFESSOR LOL HAHAHA

  • There is supposed to be another bolt in the back of the alternator, a 12 mm. They took it out before the video and I dont know why, but you can see that it is missing. It is a vertically placed bolt, in effect it would keep the alternator from tilting forward.

  • this guy likes to make things hard,he can put the ratchet over the alternator pulley instead

  • the title should be changed to "how to remove a bolt"!!

  • effective strokes...or GTFO!

  • Gotta get that effective stroke!!

  • will a 105 amp setup handle a 150 amp allernator?

  • Expertvillage..............NOT!

  • mrvpg

    My sentiments exactly

    This guys an idiot

If ur gonna show ppl how to change an alternator u SHOW EVERYTHING moron.

  • also you can take the socket off the ratchet and put it on the bolt and turn the socket to loosen

  • And this ladies and gentlemen is how unworkable a socket and a ratchet. Haha next well cover the basics of a screwdriver!!

I thought I would at least see em take the serpentine belt off the tensioner. Haha

  • I have a 96 Mazda MPV the battery is not keeping a charge now. It has a aftermarket alarm with a toggle switch how can you diagnose if its the alarm draining the battery? Or the alternator is going bad?

How do you replace the alternator on this vehicle its in a difficult place? Also, it has a belt connected. Thank You

  • Can we wach the video without the text blocking it?

  • remove those stupid subtitles and record somewhere more quiet background noise is horrible or your camera is cheap either way this video is horrible

  • first thing is disconnect the battery so you dont fry it or short it out think before you start removing !!!!lol

  • Yes Expertvillage! Please number the videos. That would be great thanks.

  • this guy is a rocket scientist.... next time show everyone what you had to take off before you got to the mounting bolts...

  • you think we're stupid? don't tell us what to do, "free ratcheting" bull shit. nobody is dumb as you think.

  • shoot i got a 02 dodge intrepid i gotta change the altinator its on bottom it seems to be a bitch to remove havent went at it yet but shes gonna come out soon also the starter cause most chances ALT goes Starters next lol

  • is it the same for me to change the alternator in my civic ex 2000?? i want to do it myself cuz i dun want to waste the excess cost!! @@... btw, good job dude!!

  • for ur civic u may need to move your driver front wheel to remove it.

  • @LoserBo1 thx a lot dude!! i changed it and the process walked out perfectly!!

  • @michael7590 haha thats good to hear

  • You are the man. Thank you.

  • Thanks so much. My mechanic wanted 400 to do this. Bought a new alternator with lifetime warranty for 184. Not only that but I feel much the useful guy.

  • "as you can see im using my finger to add a more effective strike."

"its gonna be tight, loose and then it might get a little tight at the end"

god i feel childish laughing so hard at that

  • he said stroke, not strike.

  • o my your are correct that was my bad, meant stroke.

  • You forgot to mention that if you have a manual or access to the internet, that it can save alot of trouble if you consult the manual or the internet first, for any job, just to familiarise yourself with the engine/vehicle first.

  • i have a stock 1997 serria would my alt be able to handle 4 100 watt off road lights?

  • It would be fine to run those lights, obviously you wont be using them all the time,so the battery will be able to keep up between use.Make sure you have a good battery/alternator.When wiring the lights ALWAYS use a relay to switch the power to the lights and the dash switch to switch the relay, also install a fuse on the power feed to the relay/lights.You can get relays or wiring kits for extra lights from most car parts dealers.

  • i think one of the sets of lights im looking at comes with a wireing harness

  • hahaha

    'effective stroke'

  • I will be replacing the alternator on my 92 cadillac seville either tomorrow or Wednesday. My question is the serpentine belt that sits on top of my alternator. Will I need to loosen the belt in order to get the alternator off? Or can i just remove the bolts and the belt slides off?

  • Yes you will need to loosen the belt to get the alternator out. But you would have figured that out on your own. Impossible to get it out without loosening the belt.

  • you have to release the tension on the belts. Search: alternator belt...

  • My original alternator is almost totally done '02 Ford Ranger 3.0L V-6 after 140,000km (87,500 miles). Battery charge level on the dash just keeps getting lower. Is that about the standard life of an alternator? I'm going to change it myself and save about eighty dollars of mechanic labour. Wish me luck, lol.

  • thats whats happening to me right now in my 96 Bonneville 290,000km, alternator heats up and voltage level starts going down

  • Replacing an alternater is really freakin simple,Some are just hard as hell to get to and brackets are differnt you really just use your common since.

  • yea i cant get to mine i drive a 2002 lancer and i cant get it out... its fuckin hard as hell to just get to it... its right underneath my intake manifold... its just pissin me off

  • "It's gonna be tight, Loose, and then a little tight at the end"

  • i knew how to change it, bought one cause my car needed one, but i sent it to some old mexican mechanic down the street, asshole crossed the wires now i cant get past 3000rpms...im mexican too but dam...thats what i get for being lazy and not doing it myself..

  • I know the feeling, im from a small border town. and they fucking improvise to fix anything. I once took to get my ac fixed but went across the border and the guy was not wearing shoes, place was a small shack and the was hitting the compressor with a huge rock!!!!!!!!! What the fuck!!!! he said, i got it oh yeah. amazing i know

  • I removed the alternator bolt but could not remove it out. My car is 2003 Camry Lee with 4 Cyl. Please help me.

  • we know how to use a fk'n ratchet...jesus

  • would a second alternater be strong enough to generate 15 amps?

  • Picked an easy model vehicle to remove the alternator on! Try removing one on a 97 Honda Civic(piece of crap)4 door! Have to renove part of the stinking drive train to get it out!

  • just cut it. lol

  • And how do you purpose I get the new one on?

  • common. i was kidding.

  • My accord 99 alternator is rotted yesterday. I hope i can fix it because here in albania/europe i cant find parts for Usa Accord.

  • Ouch! Well good luck with it! : )

  • I used to say that to my auto teacher all the time to annoy him!

  • I hate front weal drive, anyone that had to replace the alternator on one knows why.

  • did it occur to you guys to number the vids so we can figure out with comes first and which last??

  • and if u wanna go ahead and number them now, just to eliminate that confusion altogether, that would also be great...

  • @Death666wish i agree...

  • Any one here who can tell me the name of the tool he's using? thanks

  • socket wrench

  • hey can someone answer me, is an alternator, a dynamo and a generator the same thing???

  • A dynamo is a electric generator. Dynamo's also lead to alternators.

  • thanks, so can you have an engine with a dynamo and not an alternator??

  • dynamo creates less electricity than compared to an alternator

  • thanks for the help with getting the "freewheel" spin to stop by holding the socket... couldn't seem to figure that out

  • that was the most difficult part in removing my alternator!

  • lol

  • try to take on from the 300zx 1994

  • you didnt show how to take the belts and wires off

  • @platinumpresto yea he did in a differnt video

  • could i make a motor out of an alternator?

  • O K heres my situation,I have a 90 plymouth acclaim w/188k and a rebuilt head, she still purrs but after she warms up and I kill it I cant get it to start again,on top of that ,the lghts dim and it starts to sputter as if it wasnt geting n.e gas.they want 165 big ones 4 a alternator 4 this so I wanted to make sure b4 I spend a chunkochange, thanx

  • same thing happening with my car

  • if you get a voltage tester, test the voltage of the battery when the car is off. then, turn the car on, turn all the accesories on and the lights/etc and give it some gas. it should read about 14.5 volts.

another way is to disconnect the negative terminal when the cars on; if the car dies, the alternator is bad.
