I used your clip to change my1999 crown vic alternator this morning. I used a F150 alternator that had been dormant in the junk yard - it took a a few full throttles to wake it up. Thanks for your clip - I was back on the road in ten minutes tops.
well on my f150 4.9 liter the bottom bolt not the .5 inch but 9/16 bolt is like its welded on cant get it off to change the alternator i like the guy in this vid who just got it off with a simple turn hahahaha
This video sucks. Wait till people catch their car on fire or explode their battery cause this clown shoe didn't say anything about disconnecting the battery first! This video has now made me dumber for having watched it. Not to mention removing the belt, wire loom and rear bolt. Ppl do not do this unless you have experience in this field.
thanks to expert village i will never again take my car to a mechanic....it's not that this stuff is easy its that they are too arrogant...hopefully expert village puts some mechanics out of business
remember. "remove all bolts that look like they could be alternator bolts" hold this guy responsible for the retard that drops an engine on there foot!!!! XD
There is supposed to be another bolt in the back of the alternator, a 12 mm. They took it out before the video and I dont know why, but you can see that it is missing. It is a vertically placed bolt, in effect it would keep the alternator from tilting forward.
I have a 96 Mazda MPV the battery is not keeping a charge now. It has a aftermarket alarm with a toggle switch how can you diagnose if its the alarm draining the battery? Or the alternator is going bad?
How do you replace the alternator on this vehicle its in a difficult place? Also, it has a belt connected. Thank You
shoot i got a 02 dodge intrepid i gotta change the altinator its on bottom it seems to be a bitch to remove havent went at it yet but shes gonna come out soon also the starter cause most chances ALT goes Starters next lol
is it the same for me to change the alternator in my civic ex 2000?? i want to do it myself cuz i dun want to waste the excess cost!! @@... btw, good job dude!!
Thanks so much. My mechanic wanted 400 to do this. Bought a new alternator with lifetime warranty for 184. Not only that but I feel much the useful guy.
You forgot to mention that if you have a manual or access to the internet, that it can save alot of trouble if you consult the manual or the internet first, for any job, just to familiarise yourself with the engine/vehicle first.
It would be fine to run those lights, obviously you wont be using them all the time,so the battery will be able to keep up between use.Make sure you have a good battery/alternator.When wiring the lights ALWAYS use a relay to switch the power to the lights and the dash switch to switch the relay, also install a fuse on the power feed to the relay/lights.You can get relays or wiring kits for extra lights from most car parts dealers.
I will be replacing the alternator on my 92 cadillac seville either tomorrow or Wednesday. My question is the serpentine belt that sits on top of my alternator. Will I need to loosen the belt in order to get the alternator off? Or can i just remove the bolts and the belt slides off?
Yes you will need to loosen the belt to get the alternator out. But you would have figured that out on your own. Impossible to get it out without loosening the belt.
My original alternator is almost totally done '02 Ford Ranger 3.0L V-6 after 140,000km (87,500 miles). Battery charge level on the dash just keeps getting lower. Is that about the standard life of an alternator? I'm going to change it myself and save about eighty dollars of mechanic labour. Wish me luck, lol.
Replacing an alternater is really freakin simple,Some are just hard as hell to get to and brackets are differnt you really just use your common since.
yea i cant get to mine i drive a 2002 lancer and i cant get it out... its fuckin hard as hell to just get to it... its right underneath my intake manifold... its just pissin me off
i knew how to change it, bought one cause my car needed one, but i sent it to some old mexican mechanic down the street, asshole crossed the wires now i cant get past 3000rpms...im mexican too but dam...thats what i get for being lazy and not doing it myself..
I know the feeling, im from a small border town. and they fucking improvise to fix anything. I once took to get my ac fixed but went across the border and the guy was not wearing shoes, place was a small shack and the was hitting the compressor with a huge rock!!!!!!!!! What the fuck!!!! he said, i got it oh yeah. amazing i know
Picked an easy model vehicle to remove the alternator on! Try removing one on a 97 Honda Civic(piece of crap)4 door! Have to renove part of the stinking drive train to get it out!

ok you have to be retarted not to know to take the 2 frickin bolts out and it doesnt say anything about haveing to take the belt off and losein the tensioner and that took him 5 fuckin min to take out 2 bolts.....
wtf and he didnt seem to mention that you have to disconect the wires from the alt first and usually take the battery cables off you might get a nice fuckin shock
O K heres my situation,I have a 90 plymouth acclaim w/188k and a rebuilt head, she still purrs but after she warms up and I kill it I cant get it to start again,on top of that ,the lghts dim and it starts to sputter as if it wasnt geting n.e gas.they want 165 big ones 4 a alternator 4 this so I wanted to make sure b4 I spend a chunkochange, thanx
if you get a voltage tester, test the voltage of the battery when the car is off. then, turn the car on, turn all the accesories on and the lights/etc and give it some gas. it should read about 14.5 volts.
another way is to disconnect the negative terminal when the cars on; if the car dies, the alternator is bad.

A dynamo is a electric generator. Dynamo's also lead to alternators.

dynamo creates less electricity than compared to an alternator
