  • I saw these guys open up for a hot new band at a 400 seat club in Pittsburgh in about '85 or so. They blew them off the stage! We all agreed the main act was good, but Fishbone would be the ones to make it big. But they never got the hype. The other band sure did, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. What a shame.

  • whos that shirtless nigga -_-

  • Check out the original song on the Superfly soundtrack. I like this version better but both are good. As matter of fact, Superfly is a good flick and the soundtrack is too- definitely out of my personal musical comfort zone but it's good.

  • 1988!!! R U kiddin' me??These muthafuckers are so good and ahead of their time...This song could work in 1888, 1988 and 2088...Fishbone is esstential..

    ***jcmcneilband***

  • Fishbone nuff said!!!

  • @multigenremusicmvmnt THAT would be ONE HELL OF A TOUR...NO ONE WOULD WANT TO MISS!!!!!

  • Saw them open for chill peppers @ the Ritz . was a good show.

  • I wish someone would post "Deep Inside" from this album.

  • I could only dream: Jimi Hendrix,Sly and the Family Stone,Living Colour and Fishbone on tour!

  • Why can't we brother's protect one another? No one's serious and it makes me ferious!

  • The most slept on rock band off all time! It's a damn shame what the music industry did to Fishbone.

  • @ynot323

    what did it do?

  • who is this freddie the song is referring to?

  • I remember adoring this song and video back in 1989. Today I realize that Fishbone were way ahead of their time!

  • ayyyye my dad bought me truth and soul when i was younger (96) didnt appreciate it but i listen now its fucking cool.

  • Effin Badass.

  • I remember listening to this in Newark off S.Orange Avenue. Grew up on this song.

    Love this!

  • Agree with the below comments!...Sooo SICK!!!

  • One of the greatest covers.. EVER!! .. < Period that is.. =)

  • these guys are nuts as always! XD Pretty good cover song.

  • I met this guy in Hawaii!!

  • Saw fish bone in nelson bc. i was flying on turtles what a show circa 1995

  • i love both

  • Strange, i'm too.

  • The song starts at a high point way to fast, i love the slow build up of the original. That's probably why i don't like this song as much...

  • I think both versions are good in their own right

  • Skip this track on "Truth And Soul" and go directly to "Bonin' In The Boneyard" to see how great Fishbone could be. But yeah, I don't dig this cover at all either.

  • They originally used this song on the workprint of Nightmare on Elm Street 6 Freddy's Dead.

  • Freddie was a character in Superfly, Curtis Mayfield didn't know him at all, he just made the soundtrack for the movie

  • great cover by a great band, but who is Freddie? Don't reply with some comment like someone Curtis Mayfield knew. Who was Curtis talking about? That is the question.

  • It's about one character of super classic blaxplotation movie "Superfly"

    Curtis made all soundtrack

  • This is wack. He ruined a great song.

  • dude love this! and the mayfeild version!

  • Fishbone and Mayfield worked on "He's a FlyGuy" on the I'm gonna git you sucka soundtrack and it hit top 10 on the R&B charts in 1989. So Mayfield loved their verison of this song.

  • God bless Fishbone and Angelo Moore.

  • Back in the day, these guys were one of the best live acts you'd ever want to see. Angelo was a madman! I saw him at the Palladium in NYC, literally climb the walls!

  • You are a fucking moron revdfunk! FISHBONE is soul!!!

  • No. Fishbone is over produced crap.

  • No. And your still a fucking moron. This is a brilliant interpretation of Curtis Mayfield's classic. BTW, this particular video has horrible audio... that tinny sound you hear is not "overproduced crap" it's a crappy conversion.

Open your mind and be like water... fuckstick.

  • Believe me, my mind is open. Mayfield's original has soul, feel and groove. This has none of those things.

This is merely a way to make money by selling to people either too lazy or too stupid to dig out music with real feeling.

Next you'll be telling me that RHCP's version of Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder is a "brilliant interpretation."

    LOL.

  • I agree, rev. Curtis is dead...and this fucking interpretation is probably what killed him! BRING ON THE THUMBS DOWN!

  • you need to take a look at fishbones entire body of work before you make a comment like that."Stupid and lazy" definitly not words that describe this band. This is them paying homage to the Great Curtis Mayfeild. But hey I guess the guys were right...Give a monkey a brain he'll think he's the center of the Universe...Thanks Musical Genious.....Kudos on your classic albums. next time just shut up and enjoy

  • I aint rubbishin fishbone... but i cant stand this version! I've tried to appreciate it. but it aint happenin for me

  • this is a good interpretation of a great song, it doesnt sound the same, otherwise what would be the point?

and the rhcp's interpretation of higher ground is good as well. again, different, but thats the point of covers, doing things your own way.

  • wtf ??

    Mayfield's got soul and groove , Fishbone too .. U, I don't think so..

  • THESE FOOS JUST KILED MAYFIELD'S SONG

  • El riff de este tema te vuela la cabeza man... este violero la rompe.

    Saludos desde Argentina

  • the guitar in this is awesome

  • Good energy song!!!

  • Yea this is good bike riding in new york traffic music.

  • The best concert I have ever seen started with Fishbone, followed with Jamaica's great Culture and finished with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers at UMass, Amherst, Spring 1986

  • 1986 chili's were getting turning into the best band in the world must have been a gr8 concert!

  • I partied with FISHBONE during this tour... Memphis at the Satellite Club. One of the many... "Best Times of my Life". These guys are put on the best Live Shows!

  • I was Vice President for Engineering at Rock Sold Productions, where this video was online edited. It was finished in BetaCam SP component analog video; Rock Solid was only one of two facilities at the time that could stay component through the entire post production process.

    Great memories, thanks for posting.

  • one great band one amazing video

    fishbone thank you!

    ...godblessthisfish

  • What's so cool about Fishbone is that no matter WHERE they play they always perform like it's their last show. Seen them 3 times in 3 different cities ( in Canada) and they made us feel like fucking GODS for 2 and a half hours....all three shows. So many performers today could learn from these guys. Thanks Fishbone!

  • Great to see this band again.

  • I wonder if Curtis Mayfield ever got to hear this cover? I think he would have loved it!

  • He did he played with the 'Bone" on " He's a Fly Guy" from the Wayans Brothers spoff 'Im gonna git you sucka'.

  • Great stuff. Criminally underrated band.

  • Miss thier old style!! regretting my tattoo!!!!!!!!

  • hey, the original music lives on forever (or at least until the human species destroys itself of the sun blows up.. which ever comes first, but you get the idea)

  • wrong dude norwood is also an original

  • ain't the same band, the only original member is angelo. I think the got ex suicidal guitarist rocky george though who is bad ass..

  • Great Band!!! And I'll be seeing them tonight 12/27/06 In MA. OH YEAH FISHBONE

  • Awesome video
