  • I love the way James Earl Jones says, "Our source was the New York Times."

  • @shootzthemoon21

That was not James Earl Jones.

He played one of the guys on Slim Pickins' plane.

  • @AtomicDaytime Oops! I guess I thought he had multiple roles like Peter Sellers did in the movie. They both have cool voices!! :)

  • peace is our profession

  • Nein! They steal this story from me! boho.com

  • 0:26 you know? i dont think he was supposed to take that little tumble but the director just mouthed (KEEP GOING! KEEP GOING!) XD

  • @albertjester I was always curious about that moment!

  • *gun fire blazes all around...* 'Peace is Our PROFESSION' *...while gun firing keeps going". Fucking brilliant!

  • "No, sir! It is not a thing a sane man would do." Ironically, in the novel "Red Alert" (the inspiration for "Dr. Strangelove"), the "Doomsday Machine" was controlled by humans, not a computer.

  • 0:43 lol Peace Race

  • I love the way they introduce Strangelove. He's been there the whole time without any attention, and then just BANG, he's introduced like that. Love it.

  • I kinda miss these days when the overall paranoea and the insanity, of the whole humankind holding itself hostage at gunpoint , encouraged individuals' critical thinking.

Now the whole world is divided in capitalist messiahs and evil non-caucasian terrorists.

Hollywood can never be the same.

  • SPOILERS: The Russians actually built a doomsday machine - called Dead Hand.

  • @DeadlyGrim

I thought that they only came as far as the planning stages, but since the Soviet Union went through several changes in the late 80's it was postponed and finally cancelled altogether.

Since their analysis for the "Star Wars" program (itself incredibly unrealistic and most likely just a scam) showed that they could be subjected to a surprise attack, and the few missiles they could launch from subs or minor bases as retaliation would be almost all destroyed by this "missile defence"

  • @DeadlyGrim

If one studies history and how many times the Russians have been attacked and invaded, one can't really blame them for being paranoid and suspicious. In WW2 they were nearly wiped out by the nazis and after that they were determined never to be attacked again by anybody. As long as MAD existed both sides knew nobody was insane enough to attack first. Both sides also had a firm policy never to strike first

Btw, India and Pakistan would never be crazy enough to attack each other either

  • @DeadlyGrim

The "Dead Hand" concept encompasses only the automatic launching of the land-based strategic rocket force in case the Soviet leadership was decapitated. It isn't a true Strangelovian "Doomsday Machine" because it doesn't have the capability of causing the extinction of human life.

  • You can't fight in the war room. Peace is our profession. Premier "Kissoff". Too funny...how I miss Inspector Sellers.

  • "Peace is Our Profession."

  • @SSArcher11 It was an accident, but Kubrick thought Scott's fall was in-character, and kept it in.

  • so classic

  • How does Scott fall, roll, and recover? Planned?

    Look at Strangelove's "halo shot."

  • "The whole point is lost if you keep it a secret WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL THE WORLD. EH?!" One of my favorite lines.

  • Kubrick...the great social commentator. This is relevant for the Reagan years...when Reagan outspent the Soviet Union to "win" the Cold War...and now...."The technology is required is easily within the means of even the smallest nuclear power...".

  • 2 people were fighting in the war room

  • The Doomsday Machine

  • "Our source was the New York Times!"

  • @DMG125 Ah, those were the days...when the Times actually did investigative journalism. ;)

  • @DMG125 Scary how relevant that line still is today...

  • i like how this was extended for no other reason than to reach 4:20 :-)

  • This is perfection!

  • Dr. Strangelove: Is that, ugh... The whole point of doomsday machine, is lost, if you keep it a secret!... WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL THE WORLD, AH!?

Alexi: It was to be announced at the party congress on Monday; as you know, the premiere loves surprises..

    Greatest scene in the movie!

  • Peter Sellers is incredible

  • The Bland Corporation.

Check out Sellers' accents in old TWA commercials, especially his American.

Once he did a cigarette commercial as a Russian -- speaking "Russian." He got the idea from watching a cig commercial in Russia. Regarding the pitchman, he said, "No matter where you go in the world, it's always the same guy."

  • WHY didn't you tell the world, EH?!

  • our source was the New York times lol

  • The whole point of the Doomsday machine is lost if you keep it a secret." Why didn't you tell the world"

  • @iandhr The way he sad it made it all the more funny.

  • Comment removed

  • Mr. President, It's not only possible, it is ESSENTIAL!

  • Does anyone know if George C Scott actually trips in this scene?

  • Yes he actually does. Kubrick left it in.

  • "Gee I wish we had one of them doomsday machines!"

  • 3:45 most hilarious line from the movie

  • "We were afraid of a Doomsday gap."

    Such an amazing line.

  • @cookieflower our source was the New York Times

  • remarkable movie!

    "peace is our profession"

  • the sadest part is... that is actually the motto of the SAC...

  • i love the line: as you know, the premier loves surprises.

  • @dicekpapi18 peter bull is one of the greatest!!!

  • @dicekpapi18 peter bull...aka russian ambassador alexa

  • i love Peter Sellers! one of the most genius actors of all time!
