@brigroe haha well this movie was made around the time they broke up. the harmonium is fiona, or rather it's the emotional baggage that he is stuck with. remember the scene at the end when barry is playing the harmonium and lily is standing behind him? she's helping barry (paul!) move past fiona. lily loves barry unconditionally, she represents paul's wife- maya rudolph.
@brigroe i know it may sound ridiculous but it's absolutely true. paul makes very personal films, he has said that he is essentially barry egan. he has also alluded to the idea that it may be is his most personal film (hard to say between punch-drunk love and magnolia). one day when im a famous filmmaker, ill interview paul about all this and post it on youtube. he is THE filmmaker of our time. he is a GREAT ARTIST.
i literally clicked away from this video because of the stupid ass input texts you did. I pretty sure i know what the fu is going on in the scene, you explaining it dosent make you seem analytical and intelligent about P.T.A. So next time, just put the scene.
Another brilliant and beautiful scene by the great PTA is in There Will be Blood, when the well explodes. It's sorta similar to this scene with the use of percussion. PTA is so underrated in my opinion!
the music in punch drunk love is honestly another character. I think that without it the movie, which is one of my favorites don't get me wrong PTA is fucking awesome, would have a different effect on the audience. can't wait for the master
Can anyone tell me what times this scene runs in the actual movie, like at what time during the movie does it start and what time does it end. or if anyone could tell me what scene number this is exactly?
Very well done breaking it down like this. I've seen this film a slew of times and always notice new elements. I love the small tonal sounds that are used - like the truck brakes used as an instrument with the melody when the two leave the restaurant. Little things like that...
Loved this scene...made me watch the rest of the movie even though I should've been working! I honestly needed the relaxation in the pace of the movie after this scene, I sighed with relief!
This is my favorite scene of this movie. One of the best movies ever made in my opinion, it's just so perfect the way everything has its meaning, camera, light, music, colours... they all add an extra flavour to the script and lead it to the top of the mountain of perfection.
