  • Astroboy is wearing swim trunks that were popular in the 1950s in Japan. The swim trunks with a belt.

  • 英語版もいい味出てる。

  • Behold, the first English Dubbed Anime!

  • I'm 12, and I take this over the crap 2003 series.

  • Indeed. I agree...and I'm 53.

  • 60's and CENSORSHIP!!!!

  • I used to love Astro Boy when I was around 4 or so, then one morning it simply wasn't on anymore. That was about 1968! I had the smallest of memories of it and was actually really happy when i heard that Adult Swim would be showing it again. I had to laugh at just how weird and goofy it was to see so many years later!

Just watching the opening made me think hard about what little I remembered about it. I was happy to see an old favorite show again though.

  • ahhh Astro boy..I was too young to watch the original series when it was first aired but saw it growing up in the 80's along side the 80's series..5.50pm ABC tv..dad would sit with us as watch it before dinner and the news at 6.00pm lol..yup life was run by the clock or um the TV in my house growing up lol..on another note..I really dislike people who over think childrens cartoons..they may be created by adults with subliminal messages but really who cares..we all loved them then as we do now

  • This is a shortened version of the original minute-long title sequence. The missing lyrics {by Don Rockwell} in the middle are:

    Astro Boy, as you fly,

Strange new worlds you will spy,

    Atom-celled, Jet-propelled,

Fighting monsters high in the sky,

    Astro Boy, there you go,

Will you fight friend or foe?

    Cosmic Ranger, laugh at danger,

    Everything is "go", Astro Boy!

  • am I the only one that thinks this song sounds a lot like Pomp and Circumstance?

  • @f4rtg34ji You sir have stooped to a low

    1. The cartoon isn't liberal propoganda, the film is

    2. so what if i have Autism, no all people with Autism are like Chris Chan of which your assuming i am

    3. I am not a babyfur, You took 1 link and spun it into something unheard of.. shame on you

    4. I also have ADHD, you also assume people with THAT belong to a nuthouse?

    5. Not all conservatives are assholes despite what the media tells you

  • Growing up as kids dad use to pick up my baby brother , pretend he was Astro Boy, hold him high above his shoulders , like he was flying , he'd burst through the door , we'd clap and cheer , and sing the theme, great childhood memories, never forget the smile on my brother face , he was about 1 or 2 at the time , dad had to stop it when he turned 25 , ny brother got to heavy , nearly gave dad a hernia

  • Didn't the last episode of the 60s version of Astroboy have him sold into slavery by his father? But he was sold to Dr Elephant. I think the series from the 80s picks up from there.

  • I love how people try to act like the human-robot conflicts depicted here aren't EXACTLY like the slavery in the US. One could argue that robots aren't human, but people used to believe Africans weren't human :/

If there are beings with sentience of our level, they are about as human as you can get. Minus the destructive impulses.

  • This is WAY better then that stupid fucking 3D movie.

  • @wallaby9D8 really I think the astro boy movie is good

  • @wallaby9D8

You gotta hand it to them for putting in a ton of nods to the 1960's American version, though.

  • This was my favorite cartoon after school Oh! the memories:)

  • animes and cartoons are a little more different than u think. anyway, it's amazing looking at this again :D the first anime ever created!

  • Oh, wow! This sure brings back memories!

  • nice.

  • Man I wish I could speak Japanese

  • I remember this wonderful cartoon.I was a mere sprat but i watched every episode i could. The song ...what memories.THANK YOU astroboyworld for putting it on here.

  • @tritonrocks i think the same XD

  • @tritonrocks Your statement is typical of a world that Astroboy does not belong to. Sex is, contrary to popular brainwashing, not everything.

Astroboy is as far from your thinking as republicans are from approving their daughters in a black man's bed.

  • If Astro boy had hemmoroids, would they be called astroids?

  • @kellythesinger You said it best.

  • Thank You! Along with the other early anime such as Amazing Three and Gigantor, this was a big part of my childhood. Watching this, just for a minute, lets me relive those memories......

  • I remember watching Astro Boy as a kid.

I sometimes pretended to be him.

    Thanks for the memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I was born in 1966, and, clearly in what must have been syndication, I remember watching this in 1969, my oldest recollection of my entire life. Weird to have your oldest memory posted up on YouTube.

  • OMG. Astroboy been around since 60's ??? wow..that's old!!!

  • @peacekeeper2808 50's, actually! :D Don't forget the manga/magazine comic strips!

  • FUN FACT: Japan got the bright idea to add SINGING to its opening themes from this.

  • @blind51de Actually, the original Japanese theme was instrumental, it was only after the American version added children singing, that the Japanese added words to it themselves, after being so impressed with what was done, for the English version

  • @Shoknifeman That's what I said, you nimnul.

  • @blind51de Well, I didnt go read back 7 pages, jerk, people always wind up repeating things, don't take it so personally

  • I like the 1980s song better but this was nice to hear too!

  • 1 question,WHERE THE HECK DID HIS BOOTS COME FROM?!?!?

  • @deathsign09 ......a shoe store?

  • @deathsign09 They were made in CHINA!

  • ok, just saw this for the first time yesterday in my Anime and Manga class.. this song is completely addicting :D

  • Anime and manga class where?

  • UMass Amherst :D

  • Excellent movie .. watched the whole thing at A Plus Movies . com

  • I remember the closing credits the words were different:

    "What can I do,

    Do be like you?

    And become a real Astro-Boy"

    Anybody else remember this?

  • check out , '' Planet X episode 35 on youtube, it has that ending. I didnt realize there were two endings in english, or maybe they just cut the ending off some of them where it says NBC.

  • @LazlosPlane no, but i was smoking weed....i was 2 years old.

  • I think they were used during the closing credits.

  • @LazlosPlane

Yes! I remember the same words as you do. 1964. Thanks for posting. What can I do to be like you and become a real Astro Boy. By the way, I'm a Girl!

  • My God! I haven't seen the intro to the old"Astro Boy"TV cartoons..since WNEW TV(Now WNYW TV)CH.5 in NYC stopped airing them. Thanks Astroboyworld for bringing this back to us all here at You Tube.

  • Wanna see the only made in japan 1963 full color episode? type in ' Moon Monsters'' #32 Astroboy. there is one in b/w also . I was amazed to see it .

  • Happy Birthday Mike !!!! From Dad :)

  • AstroBoy - along with Clutch Cargo - used to freak me out when I was a boy. I'd go to bed screaming! I watched because there was nothing else on at the time. I would always wait for the Three Stooges to rescue me.

  • So great to see this here. Released some memories!

  • i just found out the was a color episode of 1963 Astroboy, #32 Moon Monsters . Its on you tube, one in b/w and the other in full color. I also checked it on Tezuka in English site, yep , there it was ,the only episode made in full color. You have to see this one, a first for all of us who watched the 1963 series in b/w only.

  • Memories. I used to run home from school to watch this and Prince Planet and Johnny Quest.... well I think Quest was on Saturdays... been a long long time haha.

I went to the see the new film version yesterday. While it wasn't quite as unique or clever as the Wachowski's remake of 'Speed Racer', it was a lot fof fun and had plenty of riffs on the various cartoon versions. Like the cartoon, it also subtly addressed social problems, pollution, class differences.etc...

    Kids should love it.

  • The issues addressed in this film are basically that of liberal propoganda, The film's OK for adults whom overlook the liberal overtones and enjoy the film as is but it's not OK for kids becuase they will be secretly brainwashed by the liberal messages in the film

  • That "propaganda" as you call it, was all in the original cartoon. That's what made it stand above other anime of the period. If peace, fellowship, cooperation between seemingly divergent groups of beings and an anti-pollution message are "propaganda" then I am glad kids are being exposed to it. We could use a little of that right now.

  • @IYAMNI You dirty left-wing commie! (just kidding, I am totally in agreement with you)

  • @Cyke101 lol I'd wear that label proudly even if you weren't. :-) Astro was my fave cartoon as a boy. Used to run home from school so I wouldn't miss it.

  • @IYAMNI That thumbs up for this quote came from me :)

  • Down, boy! Would the conservative agenda of "War is noble," "Only lazy people are poor," "Selling anything, no matter how defective, is the American way" and "If he looks different than me, then he's inferior" better for you and your psyche?

  • Just trying to do everyone a favor, the best place to watch astro boy is at theonlinecinema. net/astro_boy. I spent close to 3 hours trying to find this astro boy and this was the only site i could find with it, if your having trouble with it just PM me i would be happy to save anyone 3 hours

  • I can't believe the loser's at "Time-Warner'" made Cartoon Network rate this original early 60's series as PG Rated. And run it late at night, as if there was something that was bad for kid's to see. It was on Saturday Morning's for crying out loud in 1963. T-W are such wanker's these days.

  • Don't blame Time Warner. Blame the lawsuit-happy parents who will sue them at the drop of a hat for the tiniest things. Angry parents started the Comics Code Authority and banned Roadrunner cartoons from TV for a decade.

  • Oh man you are soooo right. Go watch the few surviving clips of Soupy Sales (RIP) which we watched every damn dayafter scholl. My God, they'd have to put that on after Craig Ferguson today-we have become a nation of WIMPS.

  • I think it comes from the kids of the 80s having those huge spiky hairs and mohawks and dressing like Mad Max and all that, that our parents have become highly fearful of everything.

  • not to mention all the lawyers running ariound these days!

  • This was on TV 46 years ago, 1963. The beatles came out in 1964 , first man on the moon 1969.

  • Wow, in the 60's it was in 1962?

  • Did they keep this song for the movie? I think it's great.

  • Here, you can't even see Astro's boots when he's flying!

  • Black & white anime scares me! It just looks odd.

  • i never knew 60's anime were blakc and white

  • Color TVs didn't become commonplace until the late 60s, and this show was from the early 60s.

  • A great childhood memory. I watched this when I was a 1st grader.

  • My mom is to sing this to me when I was a wee baby! :,)

  • I wasn't even born when this show was on, and somehow I know this song...

  • Wow! I watched this when I was a kid in the 60's.

  • We are getting old!

  • why couldnt shows just stay like this?...

  • because it kinda gets dull after a while :(

  • MAN . This is a gift from very good hearted people .THANK YOU!. You bring back great memories.

  • This is the cartoon I remember from

back then. Astroboy was a very cute

character but even then we wondered

where he kept all the fuel for his

    "rocket feet". Thanks!

  • Is it wrong to love this show even though I've only seen it a few times on adult swim?

I need to see this show more often...

  • was it Astroboy who saved the planet from giant snail like creatures or was thet prince Planet?

  • YES,it was an episode from 1963 Astroboy with the giant snails,

  • I sort of remember that from somewhere, He either went to another planet full of giant snails or they came here to earth. The two if not all cartoons had the same dub voices...prince planet. astro boy marine boy.. kimba.. maybe I just imagined it. I believe diferent distribution companies were allowed to do what they wantewd to do with it. I remmember some name like HOOHO productins at the end or something like that.

  • I made a mistake theres 104 episodes on dvd 1963 Astroboy.

  • Astroboy cartoon shows;; 1963 the original b/w cartoon, 1980 a new color Astroboy cartoon with all new episides;;; 2004 a new color Astroboy with all new episodes;; a new Astroboy movie is comming out soon. The 1963 Astroboy was in b/w and never in color, you can get all the original 152 b/w episodes with the original english dubbing on DVD as well as the 1980 and 2004 versions.

  • Was this intro custom made for English audiences? btw I saw a longer version of the intro...

  • They once did reruns of this show on adult swim.

  • I can't help but bust a move whenever I hear this!

  • Yeah I have been reading the manga lately and I really believe the messages that it portrays aren't usually something directed at the younger audience, but maybe thats for the better. I like it because it has that in it. :) Plus, I have to admit, Astros the cutest little hero I've ever seen~

  • Astroboy was the first show that showed human rights! the episode about the little boy getting lost in the tunnels and the robots getting together to find him in spite of the humans hatred for all robots made me and my brother believe we were the same as everyone else....no other cartoon back then even touched on such issues back in the 60's

Everyone should demand to see the old episodes (black and white) of Astroboy.

  • @kellythesinger I wouldn't even say just cartoons, but T.V shows. Honestly, Astro boy was so ahead of it's times in celebral story telling and giving a message that I wonder just how much media really does owe this little rocket powered boy.

  • @prometheus126 I agree pro, I am obviously older. I have children, I forbid television. I have them watch video tapes of Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, Astro Boy, Shirley Temple, Because I want my kids to be like their dad.

  • @kellythesinger THATS WHAT GOT ME HOOKED WHEN ID WAKEUP AND THIS WAS ON ADULT SWIM AT LIKE 3AM

  • @kellythesinger Yeah! I have a couple of old episodes on VHS. They're awesome. Even though the quality kinda sucks. I haven't watched them on DVD yet. I'm hesitant because I know that some old shows lose something in the conversion. Like The George Lopez Show doesn't play Low Rider at the beginning of episodes and allegedly The Greatest American Hero doesn't have all the original music that were played throughout the episodes. Not sure if any of that affects Astro Boy or not though. Haha!

  • @kellythesinger Plus the one where Dr Elephant's trans-gendered father-in-law was concered about whether his attraction to Astro Boy was pedifial or not.

  • I think it aired on NBC in the 1960s.

  • It did run in the 1960's. What I saw were reruns in the mid 1970's on a local UHF station.

  • It seemed like most everything I watched in the early 70's was UHF including this, Ultraman ,Lost in Space Rifleman, The Avengers,to name a few. I lived just outside Buffalo NY then. I'm pretty sure the station was from Canada, they used to break in with something called News capsules,I hated that.

  • OMG this is so cute! X3

  • I remember watching this on TV in the 1970's.

  • Comment removed

  • Dear God, the Japanese version of the intro is so much better. However, the translation of the show's name was good. You couldn't call it "Atom" in English.

  • You are an idiot.

NBC did the choir-style intro first, the impressed japanese producers added a cover version to the show soon after.

That's where anime first started putting songs in credits. Even if Atom was the first big anime.

  • They used to show this on adult swim when i got up for school(which was at 4 or 5 in the morning) along with gigantor, voltron and those celebrity cartoons like the Harlem Globetrotters and that Mr. T cartoon. Man i miss tose days!

  • 1964 watching this as a new cartoon,it was great. it was a change from tons of popeye, loonytoons and the stooges. Truly the golden age for kids,im glad i remember this as a new cartoon.

  • You uploaded this video on my birthday! That makes it double awesome, since I love Astro Boy!

  • I always loved Astro Boy!!

  • did you know, that when this show was first aired in the US, it had only an orchestrated theme, both in the US and the Japanese? The American team decided to put in words to it, and the Japanese were so impressed with it, that they put it into their opening...

  • I love AstroBoy!

  • I'd hop right out of my bed to dance and sing along when it comes on adult swim late at night, lol

  • Me too.

  • Buahahahaha :D

  • xd. evil laughter eh?

  • hahaha, yeah what can I say, I frakin love this song :D lol

  • Me too. xd we both have a good sense of humor.

  • Thought I'd never hear this again, wow!

  • Wow, that sure takes me back. Funny how the mind works...I totally forgot that it was in B&W. Thanks, got any more?
