  • so good and calming

  • I think in the context of Jackson C. Frank's life you can maybe understand his original better. I like his version more, although the guitar on this one is indeed pretty haunting...

  • my love at first hear! Nick Drake<3

  • i prefer this to the original because its so haunting

  • search nicolas and the iceni summer's end. they write beautiful music which has echoes of denny and drake.

  • Stunning...Great to see Jackson's music remembered.

  • Love ya Nick, let's be friends. The mystery over your death ... did you mean it? Doesn't matter any more - your music is still with us. Thank you for what you did for us while you were with us.

  • This song makes me idealise Nick Drake

but he committed suicide at the age of 25 right? His life wasn't that happy after all

  • @GDhaenens

"but he committed suicide at the age of 25 right?"

...He was 26. Most of his family members and friends said he accidentally overdosed on the antidepressant elavil (though it was called somthing else at the time). However, they phrase it like "I like to believe it was an accident" so it was very likely not an accident. It's especially suspicious because in one of the docs, his father mentioned having to hide pills like aspirin when he was around for fear he'd do himself in.

  • "Success has always been the greatest liar—and the " work " itself, the deed, is a success too; the great statesman, the conqueror, the discoverer, are disguised in their creations until they can no longer be recognised, the "work" of the artist, of the philosopher, only invents him who has created it, who is reputed to have created it, the "great men," as they are reverenced, are poor little fictions composed afterwards; in the world of historical values counterfeit coinage prevails." Nietzche

  • Ahh, Nick...you left us far too early....your gorgeous voice and face and incredibly beautiful, haunting music just takes me away.....peace to you forever....thank you for being your gorgeous self.....

  • he was like the hole musical package: so good at singing ,writing lyrics (for the other songs i know he didnt write this) and playing guitar.

  • he also played piano, clarinet and saxophone....

  • @martnaze <:O

  • love u nick RIP

  • No matter how bad I feel, no matter how dark it gets... I just love Nick's stuff. He brings me great joy.

  • I very much doubt a Jonas brother fan has heard of nick drake and that's just a stupid comparison.Nick drakes music is hauntingly beautiful its a shame what happened to him he meant so much more to the world then he will ever know.

  • oh, thank you. this path is hard to find

  • ... immense...

  • @abadir90 per una volta posso darti ragione...

  • DELICIOUS LO-FI IS DELICIOUS

  • One of the best songs ever written. I do love the original from Jackson C. Frank. However, once in a life time a cover overmatch the original and that's the case with Nicks cover. It's pure soul, brilliant and the best without frills... impossible to top.

  • There are no words to describe how this song makes me feel :')

  • Kocham to!.

  • Who cud possibly dislike this song???

  • @hitman1267 Why ponder that ???

  • love this..

  • i think this is most likely his best....goosebumps...

  • You are SO loved by the people who have found you and are smart enough to NEED you in their lives Nick. Wish you were here...Rest in Peace.

  • Favorite Nick Drake song, forever and ever and ever.

  • What's fascinating here is that you can hear 'Angi' in his descending chord structure (particularly Jansch's recording of it), but with that Drake hammer technique in the treble notes. Drake was a true original, but it's interesting to hear his influences speak through his playing, too.

  • wow what a song so much passion and depth speachless

  • Hope your looking down and seeing how finally and truly you are valued.

  • nick drake is one of my favourite artists of all time, but for me you can't beat the original

  • his is fantastic, is it available on CD anywhere ?.

  • @thrillseeker70 I'm not sure, but it may be on the Family Tree collection. There are a lot of demo's and home recordings on it.

  • Wonderfully hypnotic. here is another song called Milk & Honey that i found also as hypnotic

Milk & Honey unplugged by a singer called Marta.

  • Wonderfully hypnotic. Here is a link to another Milk & Honey i found.

  • classic

  • This probably sounds corny, but I'm posting it anyway.

When I was little and my parents would come back home from their trips to Ethiopia they'd bring back these Milk and Honey cookies. They were absolutely delicious. So, I'd go out into my (massive) backyard when my dad hadn't mowed the lawn for a while and sit there with my cookies and watch the clouds while eating.

That's what the song reminds me of. :)

  • @SnickersInTheBarn such a nice memory =) . . . . i wanna eat milk and honey cookies now XD

  • @SnickersInTheBarn you must like sweets

  • to me jackson should be covered

  • Wonderful..

On what album is this cover?

  • @MrSylvain50 you can find it on the "Family Tree" compilation

  • his version is so deep..love it!!

  • I too have to say that Jackson C. Frank, hit me so much harder when I first heard, not in anyway saying I prefer any version, but it is Jackson's song.

  • yep yet again i will say his guitaring is awesome.

  • Jackson C Frank: Nick Drake: Sandy Denny....singing this song doesn't do much for your life expectancy does it?

  • @RatherLargeAllan very good comment

  • @RatherLargeAllan Well bob dylan covered it, and he's pretty old now :)

  • @Snabbelkrab

Bob Dylan? I almost think that proves my point!

  • @RatherLargeAllan Dylan?

  • i know this is a home recording (from family tree) but the background noise sounds like hes outside near a fairground??

  • @bradshawvincent : What you are hearing is another track on the tape bleeding through.....not a fairground.

  • @beebfader thanks. i like the flaws as it adds a sense of mystery. on another track you can hear his mum come in with a pot of tea.you hear the clinking of the cups as she puts it down.do you know the track i mean?

  • @bradshawvincent I can't pinpoint it, but I have heard all of the home tapes out there....they are very atmospheric and it's quite touching that in their innocence Nick's parents would make copies for visiting fans...

  • I like the original better. This seems thrown together to me. And Jackson's vocals just speak to me much more than Drake's for this song.

  • Indeed a beautiful interpretation of the original, i think Jackson C. Frank`s version is way too cheesy... Plus i really like the dodgy record of this song, makes it even more mystic somehow!

  • yes i actually prefer nick drakes version.i think his guitar playing is superior and it suits his melencholic vocal style.

  • Too bad it's in such bad quality, but better than nothing... I'm really glad Nick Drake gave us such a great piece of work.

    Rest in peace.

  • We love this song

    John

    of

    BLACKDOGHAT

  • Masterful.

  • he's so beautiful and so is his voice. just wow.

  • I've heard this cover, the dylan cover, and the summertime cover, and he did a by far better job than the originals in my opinion. He was such a gift to the world. I wish he knew that. What a beautiful, gorgeous brain and heart he had. RIP

  • The original was actually written by Jackson C. Frank, and can be found on the only album he ever released called The Blues run the Game. It's a really powerful version, but this more mellow drake version suits the song nice to....

  • @beccaleccahimecca You've even heard the first original by jackson frank and you still say this is a lot better? I love both versions but they're way too close to say nick drakes is a lot better.

  • @beccaleccahimecca just reading your comment brings tears to my eyes because of reminding me again of his tragic life. i mean, when i first heard his music i was like "oh my gosh, this has to be god. this is like paradise. it's music for me". 'cause i know how he must have felt. i know about suicide. and hearing his beautiful voice, the lyrics and the guitar, well, it is just wonderful. he was such genius. a special and beautiful man. a godsend. and i love him for leaving us his music.

    peace.

  • @beccaleccahimecca I think he did know how much of a gift he was to the world, which made it all the more difficult when his music wasn't accepted. He was a truly beautiful man. It's just a shame very few people realised this during his time. I like to think he looks down at us from wherever he is and smiles at how many people his music has touched in recent years. <3

  • @beccaleccahimecca I don't think a cover can ever be as good as the original. Jackson C. Frank's is the best, because he wrote it. However, I do love Nick Drake's cover and feel he did justice to this classic song.

  • @doughboycod2 look at "hurt"

  • HEY! What is that background sound at 1:49-1:50 Guitar reverb? a squeak toy?

  • I think, that it's just something that's one the backside of the tape. So it sounds reversed and very squeaky. You can hear that on a lot of his tapes.

  • Personally, I prefer Nick's version - even though it's Jackson's song. It's like he's turned a colour photograph into an old sepia print full of ghosts.

  • I agree, even though in general I'm a bigger fan of Jacksons music... Nick just transforms this into something spookier and altogether darker.

  • Personally, I think the version of 'Milk and Honey' on the Family Tree album is a lot clearer and evocative than this one from his 'Tanworth-in-Arden' album. Also, the former has a nice commentary of Nick deciding what to play. It really gives it an authentic feel.

I love Nick Drake. He is an understated musical gem who left a silent mark on the world.

  • That guitar is so haunting. It's surreal.

  • he should have covered dialogue

  • this song is probibly one of the greatest not just cuz it sounds good but it brings like so many diffrent emotions when u sing it some times u feel happy other times sad its weird but its a great song its to bad though that nick drake died =(

  • pensive..

  • I love this song...I had never heard of it untill oneday I woke up in the middle of the night to music playing and it was this song playing on my ipod...it was kind of erie my friend that i was with started crying because she was the one that heard it first.

  • I think that Jackson's c. Frank version it's much better.Maybe Nick's guitar is stunning but Frank's voice in this song...

    I'm a fan of Nick!

    Anyway a great song!!!

  • I agree ! I'm Nick Drake fan an respect his covers but... Milk and Honey sang by Jackson C Franck is so much better ! Nick Drake sunds bored singing M&H while Jackson C Franck deeply suffers.

  • Absolutely beautiful song. I'd never heard this song before and it is now most definitely my favourite Nick drake song. I just want to listen over and over again!! The guitar reminds me a bit of some of Al Stewart's very early songs. As recommended I listened to the Jackson C Frank original which I loved too, though being a Nick Drake fan I think this version is equally good. Thank you for posting.

  • Rest in Peace Jackson C. Frank.

Also, everyone who doesn't know Jackson C. Frank should find out about him, if you like this cover.

  • the guitaring is absolutly amazing

  • This is too beautiful. It breaks my heart

  • Theres a great version by Sandy Denny posted too.

  • you all must youtube search 'electroma - final scene' and really experience the sadness of Jackson C. Frank and what happened to him and his classmates at their elementary music school classroom.wikipedia search Jackson C. Frank and you'll see.

  • yeah, i just read about that and got a bunch of his songs. It is really amazing how frantic and depressing his life was.

  • Many thanks for posting it. Milk and Honey is one of my favorite songs. I find Nicks cover is much better than the original from J.C. Frank which is also great but Nicks guitar make this song perfect, makes it his own and the lyrics are very much like Nicks. Jackson c. Frank was definitive a big influence

  • Great cover though not as good as the original though in my opinion.

  • superb cover of a sad song.

  • Agreed! But, is it a cover??? It sounds like Nick!! I believe it IS Nick! Gorgeous!!

  • This is Nick but it is a cover of a song that jackson c frank did.. (and he's original version is much much much much better than this...)

  • nick admired jackson c. frank and got many inspirations from his work; they may have had similarities too in their way of seeing the world and their feelings

  • It's actually written by Jackson C frank

  • 1:47 you can hear his cat!

  • Great, what else is there to say?

  • One of Nick Drakes finest and my personal favourite R.I.P
