I forgot to mention that (1) you should loosen the string before you adjust the intonation so as to avoid string damage. After you have done your own intonation a few times, it will become easier to do it. It's a good habit to do intonation at least once per string change, probably soon after the strings stretch out some. Also, (2) however hard or soft you fret or pick, try to remain "consistent" for all the strings. ;)
I'm 44 and am not only a beginner guitarist, I'm also into learning and R&D various innovation. I have played guitar since I was a teenager, but never played much since then, so I have about 1.5 years as guitar student, and decades of learning very little.
I have some skills beyond beginner, but most is beginner. I've only studied/learned how to play guitar for a little over a year, that's all.
I LOVE playing guitar, but until I learn how to play more than 7 chords & 1 position of the pentatonic scale, I'm a beginner (w/some feel). Many learn way more than that in 8mos. Right?
When I started they didn't have TAB yet. LOL Give me 6mos 1hr daily practice, I'd probably get intermediate. I've been researchin amps & guits 4last several yrs. =P
oh well, I guess its hard to define the word beginner but looking at your videos posted a year ago like Barracuda, you just seem way beyond what i would call a beginner already. your ease with the timing and slides, solo's, harmonics on this video makes you look way beyond someone who has just started learning guitar which is what a beginner is but if thats the tag you want to hide behind then go ahead.
You make a point about some skills better than beginner, I'll grant that. I honestly don't know much more than I stated, & over the last 2decades, I haven't played but 3 times a yr until 2006ish when I started buying gear. I 'm woefully inadiquate & in touch w/where I left off learning guitar 20+yrs ago.
I want to learn again, but my life has been in shambles (living alone in a mission, filing 4 disability degenerative bone disease), so I doubt I'll have time/ability to improve for a while.
