there was also a story like this, one mothers tiger cubs died, all of them, she was so depressed it looked like there was nothing at all to do in her life any more, so the zoo keepers rapped up some piglets in a tiger patten cloth, an whalah!!!, the mother was so happy she nurses them, and acts as if they r her young!!!!
Sad really. Bengal tiger threatened because of human intervention. So we intervene again by putting in a Sow in a stall to feed the Bengal kittens (less threat) but she has had the majority of her litter removed and put with Bengal mother (wouldn't matter if they DID get rejected). Sow cannot act naturally (unlike the Bengal Queen), and only has a few of her original litter. Its just so wrong.
@dalbystorm they didn't take the kittens away from the Bengal mother, nor did they take the piglets shown with the tiger away from the tigress. The tigress is one of the Bengal kittens originally with the mother pig. The grown tiger shown is one of the kittens grown up.
question is if the tiger can produce milk for the pigs and the mother pig can produce milk for baby tigers then why the heck they adopted the other's children, what is the point of that?
@lezhotty83 the grown tiger was raised by a mother pig as well but she is not producing any milk. the piglets that are with her are old enough not to need their mothers milk anymore and theyre all just playing together because people wanted to see if the relationship would last when the tigers all grown up.
Okay, this is awful. Why would they even risk putting piglets in with a tiger? And they need to let the poor pig out of that stall, it's a zoo not a factory farm. These people are exploiting this just to draw more visitors. Shame on them
I could understand if it was necessary for the survival of the piglets or the tiger cubs, but it's obvious they just mix the families up to attract attention and visitors to the zoo. Don't like it.
I was there last year, it's a complete embarrassment. Shame on animal planet for airing this out of context. They do this constantly to make bizarre attractions for profit. They treat Tigers and Tiger Cubs there like stock, not an endangered species. Don't support these cheap and nasty zoos.

there was also a story like this, one mothers tiger cubs died, all of them, she was so depressed it looked like there was nothing at all to do in her life any more, so the zoo keepers rapped up some piglets in a tiger patten cloth, an whalah!!!, the mother was so happy she nurses them, and acts as if they r her young!!!!

Sad really. Bengal tiger threatened because of human intervention. So we intervene again by putting in a Sow in a stall to feed the Bengal kittens (less threat) but she has had the majority of her litter removed and put with Bengal mother (wouldn't matter if they DID get rejected). Sow cannot act naturally (unlike the Bengal Queen), and only has a few of her original litter. Its just so wrong.

@dalbystorm they didn't take the kittens away from the Bengal mother, nor did they take the piglets shown with the tiger away from the tigress. The tigress is one of the Bengal kittens originally with the mother pig. The grown tiger shown is one of the kittens grown up.

The only imprinting I remember is from that movie with Anna Paquin raising baby geese.
I really enjoy these WTF stories, aside from the parasite kitten. That one just made me sad.

@lezhotty83 the grown tiger was raised by a mother pig as well but she is not producing any milk. the piglets that are with her are old enough not to need their mothers milk anymore and theyre all just playing together because people wanted to see if the relationship would last when the tigers all grown up.
