Went on vacation to Calif. bout a year ago, stopped by the LAPD museum...the original batterram vehicle is now an exhibit there. Just realized he's talking about the thing I took pictures of... kinda spooky.
So Dope! First heard this song when I visited Hawthorne, CA, back in the 80s and was blown away. My grandparents neighbor happened to be a DJ, and he told me to peep this track. "Word of mouth" was the way to hear bout new Hip Hop tracks back in the day.
lol ive been listening to rap since about 1980 and let me tell you easy whatever e wasnt the first anything except the first big rapper to die of aids by the way toddy-t was the man
lol ive been listening to rap since about 1980 and let me tell you easy whatever e wasnt the first anything except the first big rapper to die of aids
@stewbediot He wasnt the first Gangster rapper, thats why they called him "The Late Great Eazy-E" But If it wasnt for Eazy-E gangster wouldnt have been anything. He pioneered Gangster Rap & Founded NWA.
So If It wasnt For Eazy-E The Westcoast & Gangster Rap Wouldnt be anything, You know why? If it wasnt for Eazy-E there would be no Dre Which means No Deathrow Records..(No tupac, no snoop, no dogg pound...or any other deathrow artist) Gangster rap was nothing without Eazy-E.
@RealRapMusic187 I wouldn't say that if there was no Eazy-E there would be no Dr. Dre, he still would have made a name for himself and as for 2Pac and most of the other Death Row rappers they still would have been in a new record company or on there own deal just like Dre had done. I'm not defending anyone or picking sids but I wouldn't consider Eric Wright a pioneer, that term better suit Ice-T, Scholly-D (etc.)
@keithramer123 Man..Dre was a gay dj in a club and a member of the "World class wreckin cru". Tupac hung around NWA in the early days which inspired him to stick with rapping. Most Deathrow artists & Gangster rappers in general where inspired by Eazy-E & NWA. And yeah, Ice-T, Sholly-D (etc.) Kept gangster rap going at a struggle but as soon as Eazy-E came on the scene it was Gangster Rap Worldwide Everyone was listening to Eazy-Duz-It. Say what you want but thats my opinion. Rip Eazy.
@RealRapMusic187 Just because Dr. Dre was in the Cru and made electro music doesn't make him gay. Electro hip-hop was very popular in the early-to-mid 80s and artists were still afraid to go outside of the boundaries until late 85. So its expectable that Dre would be producing like that for World Class because he was/is an amazing DJ. Eazy was a huge part of the Gangsta movement and popularization but when it all comes down to it it doesn't matter who was a real gangster but who started it.
@ridingwood you fucking retard they dont teach this shit in school dumb ass NWA were the first rappers like i said you were probably not born or were in diapers ?how would you know./? cause some one told you??
@ridingwood son you were saying toddy t was the first rapper and i told you eazy e was way back when he was from nwa now your coming up with other rappers that came after him like i said dont belive every thing you see on tv you were just a baby back then i grew up with this music now end of story

i from New York. I remember visiting my cousins in Norwalk, first time in Cali. Listening to KDAY in 85, could not believe they were playing rap 24 hours a day, over 15 years ago in Cali. Not even in New York! wow.
This reminds me of my brother D-Folks from 102nd & Walnut East Oakland and all my ballin' assed cousins in the Oakland town listenen' to KPOO RIP D-Folks..
Tell Sus I said peace homie. It was foul how Marvin got killed. I had love for those cats. You know Buddy Ruff? I bet I seen you before. I used to buy some real live foire from Poppa George. He used to smoke me out when I went over there. In the living room. He loved me like a son. Is Poppa George still alive. Last time I saw him he was 76 and still grindin. That was like 03 I think.
when I was in elemenatary school I saw the batter ram go through this guys house who murdered somebody in Compton. The wanted guy was on americas most wanted and was caught in chicago. But the national guard were creeping right behind the batter ram as it was coming down the street. They had M16's in there hand. I was about 7 years old. I am 31 now! You can't stop the batterram!!
classic throwback, still rocks, heavy ass bass guitar riff, my h-school cheerleader use to a dance to this, we used to say "HOGAN Rams" u her a BOOM!!!

Whoa. I remember all of that, listened to KDAY everyday, also listened to KPWR106 (POWER106) but not as much. What a trip! Remember the late night saturday mixmaster show on KDAY?
I used to tape songs off this station with a real live tape player. Not a boom box but a tape player with no radio or nothin. Remember KJLH and KGFJ? They used to be in Compton off Palmer and Willowbrook on the weekends by the Metro station back in the days.
I remember hearing this song often on the first all rap radio station called KDAY out of Los Angeles, California. I remember hearing it around 1984 or 85.
i haven't heard this jam since 85 and have been looking for it for years thanks bigtime for posting this! it's hard to believe the batterram really was in existence
The part where he raps, "MAYOR OF THE CITY, WHAT YOU GONE DO?" was first written to say, "MAYOR Tom Bradley, WHAT YOU GONE DO?", but the rcord company didn't allow him to sing that...
Talk about a message song all of us who were there remember "Chief Gates" We knew exactly what this song ment !! To many wrong houses got destroyed by that wepon of mass destruction
Rap today got nothing but I nothing on this.
