Sofia, I appreciate what you're saying and being of Italian ancestry myself, agree to a certain extent however, this chariot rightfully belongs to the person it was buried with not the Met or Italy..... Sadly, this piece is technically "stolen" property & stolen from a tomb..The RIGHT thing to do is to return it to it's rightful, legal owner by re intering it with the other remains
The Chariot now belongs to the World ..Not just the little town it happened to be found in ..The Met did a beautiful job restoring / displaying it ..Leave it where it is and let the World enjoy / learn from it ..This all boils down to greed & Monteleone wanting tourist dollars ..Let's call it what it actually is eh?
It does not now 'belong to the world' - it's in a museum where New Yorkers can access it - miles away from the people to whom it is heritage. It didn't just 'happen' to be found in
Monteleone.
Italy has a distinguished history of conservation and restoration; it would have been 'beautifully' and skillfully restored in Italy.
How does the Mets' possesion of it not reflect greed? For Italians this is about heritage, not greed. To Monteleone it is about cultural and historic identity.
Also, if this was TRULY about heritage blah blah blah ...why did the farmer sell it so cheaply? Technically, this farmer is a grave robber & guilty of selling stolen property.. Fortunately, it was purchased by someone who REALLY cared about it's history, and given to those who would care for, and offer it to the World to enjoy .. That farmer sold it off for shingles..Don't talk about heirtage / pride ..The Chariot belongs to the dead man it was buried with - PERIOD!
this is a real story aabout a unique old etruscan charriot which was stolen by the United States from a little village called Monteleone di Spoleto in Italy!!!
since now we have done several request to obtain our ancient charriot but the Metropolitan museum does't want to give back what's is our!!!
it's a real shame but this is the reality of the fact!!!!
please look the video and express what do u think about

it is far more serious for a museum professional to deal in stolen antiquities than a farmer.
