well, I got a dell inspiron 1564 and till now i´m pretty satisfied . I know this is about sonny , but if you you want a pretty good machine with a good cost , it would be Dell.

I've always preferred matte finishes over glossy finishes on all of my electronics, yet I have noticed these days, ALL laptops have decided to have glossy/reflective screens, as compared to the matte finish screens they once all had.
I wanted to know, why are all laptops like that now? Does the display look better in a glossy finish? Also, does this laptop at all pose the problem of the keyboard leaving marks on the actual screen, as I have seen on other laptops?
REALLY nice review! really helped me to make the decision, bought S123 last week and I am finding it just the way you have said in this review. Thanks!
Hello again......don't mind my last message bcoz I just got my VAIO today and yes...it does have a simcard socket. I have another question though....where can I find the setting that makes the keys glow in the dark?
Hey dude! Mabuhay! I have a question regarding this VAIO model.....does it have a simcard slot in it? I saw that it has a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 in it but I am not sure if that automatically tells me that it has the simcard slot as well.
I am getting this in a week instead of the Z-series(which is too expensive for me)......and I love the fact that its keyboard have backlights too....which is preety cool.
@kakejelly - I also have the Vaio S with Core i5 nVidia 512mb. It is absolutely one of the best laptops I have handled. The core i5 is really powerful. But you may also want to look at the Vaio E, Core i5 with ATI Radeon 1gb GPU, and also comes in at a better price position.
she's a pretty one. planning to get one soon. when this came out, i stopped looking into the z series. hehe...
anyways, the e series just came out as well. so i'm debating between the s and e. what do you think? almost the same specs besides the size and video card.
@trizfores - I think it's more an aesthetic thing on which one to chose. Females should prefer the E's style. But the males would be inclined to the simplistic toned down look of the S.
@rajibumbum i finally got my s series this week. after looking at so many branches, that only had the core 3, only one branch had the core 5 i wanted. really love it over the e series, which looks so plasticy. i'm really more into the simple and clean black look. loving it, but not the part that the input for the headphones and microphone is the mini jack like sony had for the mini disc walkmans long ago. will have to find an adapter for that when i can.
absoloutely stunning laptop. i will buy this at the end of summer i think. its such a good looking laptop. its also buisness class so should be very reliable. i will probably go for the i5 core with the upgraded graphics. wouldnt be doing to much gaming on there but the laptop will be for taking work from my desktop to school and so on really. editing my work here and there but generall cause im entering the college level it makes sense to have a laptop aswell as a desktop
Hey man, im James, Pinoy ako pre, ask ko lng kung anung palagay mo sa F series d2 sa ten sa pinas kasi marami akong nabasa sa mga forums, reviews and comments about the f series in the U.S. na may problems dun sa model nila sa f series.. High-pitched noise and loud fan.. d2 sa youtube may video nun.. Anu kaya sa tingin mo pre? ok kaya ang f series dito unlike sa U.S. versions na puro negative comments? thanks!
@jamsky18 - If you do not mind the huge form factor of the F, I'd say go for it. It has the same price as that og the core i5 S. But the F has BluRay and a 1gb gpu!
@jamsky18 - Oh and I wouldn't worry about the negative feedback. I haven't any probs with any Vaio so far....and I have tried a lot! Maganda quality nila so go for it. Lalo na for gaming, winner yang F series pare!
i really like it. im a student about to go to college level. i have a desktop at home which i will always do all my work on in terms of music processing and office files but i realy need a reliable laptop with a some nice power to be able to take my work to college. pretty much any computer can run my programs but im wondering do you recommen this. it seems like a much more affordable option than the z series. both look beautiful
@kahuna3901 - Get the s instead. It is way cheaper than the z. And it still packs a punch, just make sure you get the core i5 with nvidia 512gpu. And the s looks great too. Very close to the looks of the z.
@kahuna3901 - Yes, I'd rather go for the S than the Z. So much cheaper. And if you want an ssd, just get an aftermarket one, and you'll end up saving more.
should I get the black or the white color. the black one has backlit but I like the white color so much, which one looks better ?. And can I play counter strike source in the best way with this Intel HD graphics, because CS source is the only game I play :D
@kezikosova - White is nice, but i feel it gets dirty easier, especially the keyboard. Plus the black one has backlit keys, which is such a huge help when using in low-light scenarios. I wish you would get the one with nvidia gpu. The Intel HD graphics is not really suited for gaming :(
yeah! Sony vaioftw!!! Nice one man. thought of getting vaio E at first becaue of its blu ray function and the reasonable price but its way too big for school work
@bombermankyo - Sold my CW Core i5 and went and bought the Vaio S Core i5. Better portability. And it has fingerprint biometric scanner -- cool! And love that backlit keyboard. Gaming is great too. I have Resident Evil 5, Battlefield, Aliens vs. Predator, and Dragon Age Origins on it now and plays like a well-oiled machine!
@bombermankyo - dude, the vaio s is rockin'! Love it! The backlit keys really help. It also has biometric scan, cool! And I love that it has a matte, carbon fiber-like finish, so no probs with finger prints. And the core i5 is one powerful machine. Very nice indeed!
I'm from the Philippines. The HD graphics is fair, but the nVidia gpu is really the best. Gaming is such a breeze with it. Already have Left for Dead 2 and NBA 2k10 on my new CW core i5 machine, and they play flawlessly. Will do a separate vid-review on this CW soon.

No offence intended, i want to get this laptop so badly but something about the gaming performance on this laptop tell me that it isn't that good.
@bombermankyo - haven't played mass effect on it yet. But i did play Left for Dead 2 and NBA 2k10. Both played flawlessly :) In fact, I hardly use my xbox360 anymore. I even bought a usb xbox 360 gamepad that works well on the laptop too.
Core i3 is the newer cpu line of Intel. It's the next gen core2duo. The difference is the i3 and i5's have a better architecture. They have hyperthreading which the standard core2duo's don't. Hyperthreads enable the cores to multi-task further. They have 2 threads per core. It's overall effect is like having 4 separate cores working on different tasks at the same time. The consumer effect is the system is really fast! No lag whatsoever, even though tasks you work on are cpu intensive.
Core i3 is the entry level into the core i series. core i5 has higher frequency plus it has turbo mode. Meaning the cpu can throttle higher depending on the task at hand. The i7 is the quadcore variant which also has 8 threads for even better multi-tasking.
Yup this is the Vaio S :) And no it does not have the fingerprint sensor, which is a bummer. But it does have backlit keyboard, which is great for using in low-light conditions.
I've also done a test review of the Vaio Y ... will upload in a bit .... that thing is gorgeous. Also did a side-by-side with an HP dm3 and an Acer Timeline.
Hey, you said that the battery life is very poor about 1 and a half hour in full use. But what about the battery life in work conditions? I mean just some Word and Excell stuff and wifi turned on for e mails ?
What is your opinion about the same laptop with core i5?
@antho2121 - hi! I normally use this for office work. I extensively use ppt, word, excel, surf. And I normally use the laptop in full power mode, 100% cpu power all the time. That's why I only get 1 & 1/2 hours of use. If you use it in balance mode, you could probably extend the juice some more. But I do love this lappie. I play all my games here now. In fact I have no use for my xbox 360 anymore :) I am really happy with this.
I use the Vaio S on full power mode all the time. I like my machine really fast :) that said, I can't get this to run on 3 hours of batt life. I'm lucky to get 1 1/2 hours to be honest. But it's ok, since the power is awesome. Plus, gameplay is amazing! I don't even use my xbox360 anymore. Just plug in a usb xbox360 controller and you're off to the races.
@antho2121 - Oh and as per you query on core i5, well that definitely is much more powerful. The core i3 only has 2 cores with 4 threads and no turbo boost. The core i5 has 4 cores w 8 threads! plus it has turbo mode. So if you have the chance to get the core i5, definitely do so.
yes the display is good. But it's got a glossy screen. So a bit tough outdoors, especially when it's bright.
Build quality is good. Seems like it's still plastic, but sturdy plastic.
Batt life is poor, not like culv's where you can get around 5 hrs of solid use. This one does maybe 1 and 1/2 hours, since the cpu and gpu are powerful.
But the core i3 is fast!! The gpu is pretty snappy too. I've played NBA 2k10 and Left for Dead 2 on it, runs very well!
Hey, is this laptop well suited for watching films? It's just because I now have a 15 inch laptop for watching films and I'm a little scared for the 13 inch screen =s
@bakkermaarten007 - yes it is. Although 15 inchers are great for gaming and movies, 13 inchers are ok just the same. Plus these are much easier to lug around everyhere.
question nga pala brad.. kamusta naman overall performance? mabilis ba and ok ba for gaming? and kamusta din yung battery life and yung heat .. mainit ba yung laptop?
@solegemini - super fast! It has hyperthreading, so ang nakikita ng system is like 4 cores, that do tasks independently. Galing grabe. Doesn't get hot. Galing sa gaming. Left for Dead 2 and NBA 2k10 flawless. Malakas din kasi nVidia card nya eh, 512mb.
@solegemini - im using a review unit, pero available na siya sa Sony shops. But there is also another alternative to this, Asus na core i3 na 15incher! Just about the same specs pero cheaper, nasa P38k lang sa Vilman. I'll do a review on that tom. check it out here as well :)
sige.. watch ko review mo.. nakita ko na yung model.. maganda yung specs and cheap.. pa include nalang sa review yung build quality, graphics card performance and boot time.. tnx! =p nice to know na may pinoy na gumagawa din ng notebook reviews .. keep it up =p
For the vaio s, build is good, and chassis is non glossy so I like it a lot, no fingerprints. GPU niya is nVidia 512mb, so wonderful for gaming! Boot time for me is super fast, 30secs all apps up and running, that's because I installed a runcore iv ssd on it. I am very happy with this laptop. And if you get it at Avid Sony Store, you will get 10% off, so comes out to P65k++ :)
