  • Thanks vespers! You rock!

  • I wonder how good sugar bytes turnado would sound.u should do a video with that m8

  • another awesome video. thanks for sharing

  • Very nice tutorial! helped me a lot! But how would you set this thing up, with more beats? So that you can perform for a longer time. Just putting them under the other beat on track 1 and 2 seems a little bit unhandy. Do you know what i mean?

  • Vespers, I've pretty much watched all of your videos now.. I'm still somewhat new to this scene, and was having a hard time finding some starting ground. But your videos, especially this set, are amazing. Now that I understand a little on how I can manipulate this program I'm going to tweak it until there's nothing left, haha. Thanks a lot man! You've opened the doors to everything, now I just have to run through them all! Thanks again!

  • thanks heaps for this, iv been looking for tutes on how to get the most out of my apc40. this trilogy provided a breakthrough technique for my music experimentation and practice :)

  • @detr1mentalist Glad to hear. Thanks for watching!

  • The Effects you have set up through Artillery are sick. I'd be interested in how to make these same effects with Abletons Native EFX and or Using Max. I checked out the price of Artillery and Jebus...My Wife will kill me if I spend that amount of money on another Ableton device.

  • @DJGRANTCARLISLE Ableton has trouble with momentary style effects like this. Artillery is still your best bet, or NI The Finger or iZotope Stutter Edit.

  • Dude, this template and workflow is GREAT! lots of fun, and I'm using a NanoKey and an Akai LPD8, works just about the same! awesome tutorial

  • @balbuin Thanks for watching!

  • keep doin' a good job!

  • Amazing Trilogy, thank you to share the knowledge. Really appreciated.

  • @Crystaline07 I had fun making this one. Glad you got something out of it. Happy music making! Namaste.

  • Super awesome tutorial, Totally eye opening.

But I'm still aching for a video of some way to play live for an hour or two, spontaneously too.

  • @BradRamsay If you're a producer and you have all original material, it's easier for sure. You can bust things into loops. Check out Tom Cosm (/cosmcosm) he's got a great tutorial on prepping your tracks for live shows using follow actions. Cheers!

  • Great tutorial! I've been mystified on the ins and outs of live for quite some time. This helps immensely in understanding how to put together a live set quite easily. Thanks!

  • @stereosympathy You're welcome. Thanks for watching!

  • best ableton performance tutorials i've watched, covered everything i wanted to know! Don't quite understand how this has only had 2,027 views!??

  • @shimmy103 Thanks mate. Glad you liked it.

  • best ableton performance tutorial i've watched, covered everything i wanted to know!

  • @C4TR4P > I figured out my problem , I was putting the artillery in the midi clip but u have to have it in the master then you can route the midi clip to artillery, I hope this helps you out too! cheers!

  • @ghostsciencemusic Yep, that's the answer. Artillery on Master bus, MIDI track out to Master - Artillery. Cheers!

  • @C4TTR4P - I am having the same problem, it seems you only get the drop down menu before you put artillery in the midi slot. what are we doing wrong vespers?

  • Ive spent like 2 hours on the trot trying to get artillery to work. But songs play, but whenever i press the button on my apc, no effect ensues..... The one thing i found that differs my screen from yours is : 1. where it says midi to, i dont have a drop down menu for clicking on artillery. As well as 2. The volumes are not dotted but bars..

Please help, its really annoying me.

  • is that a whole track of yours? do u do this for every track in your live set? i imagine that can get quite tedious.

  • Thank You so much it's fantastic that you took the time to do these videos. Cheers!

  • @999hecubus Sweet. Thanks for the comment mate. Cheers!

  • hey man, i understand you're classically trained. can you post a vid about how we can apply basic music theory to music writing? that'd be awesome!

  • @azfiu Hey mate. Thanks for the request. I'll pop that one into the list of possible vids. Cheers!

  • This is so fucking awesome! Best tutorial there will ever be about the APC40.

I am so happy you released this, because I just bought to apc40, and it can be a little confusing at first. Thank you!

  • @FinalFragment Sweet bro! Stoked you picked up the APC40. Have fun rockin it!

  • @DJVespers If I only had time! ;D

  • Great stuff, when is your website going to be updated?

  • @Kerberos669 End of January, I'm told. Stoked for the new site!

  • wow phenomenal video again man, get your site up! I can't wait to check it out!

  • @5kank Cheers! Site will be up soon.

  • THANKS REALLY APPRECIATE SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

I JUST STARTED WITH ABLETON, AND DID NOT KNOW HOW TO WORK ARTILLERY WITH MASCHINE BECAUSE DONT SEND MIDI LIKE MIDI KEYS, BUT DRAW A NOTE OF MIDI, THANKSYOU REALLY HELPED ME :D

  • @arturommk Cheers. Glad to help out. Enjoy getting to know Live!

  • @arturommk Awesome. Glad to help out. The dummy midi clip thing is a good trick. Cheers!

  • Cheers Vespers! awesome vid

  • @reloopx Thanks mate.

  • Question on the video capture software? What are you using, love the zoom functionality.... Great Video!

  • @S4racen Thanks mate. The software is Screenflow 2 on Mac. Very sweet software. I've used a variety of programs and this is the best.

  • How are you sending the midi to the master channel...When ever I try to it doesn't give me the second drop down menu to set it to an effect. Are you using an Asio driver thing or whats going on because I can send it somewhere but I can't do anything with it except for play midi instruments. (btw I use a pc windows 7 so midiyoke won't work)

  • Really great tutorials, all thought i don't have a Live controller, i think i can use some of this to my benefit on my midi controller :P thanks for sharing. Love the audio effect rack to. =]

  • Thanks for this great tutorials, i've been experimenting a lot with my own APC40 lately, and this also helps a lot, specially for creating new stuff live, instead of just playing songs.. Keep up the good work!

  • Vespers: thanks for sharing yet another great tutorial. I like the way you explain things at the right pace. Top notch stuff! Keep up the good work!

  • Vespers - I'm a huge fan of your videos! Thanks very much for highlighting this aspect of Ableton; the live performance component is the thing that really sets it apart from other DAWs.

One quick question: Do you adjust the gain on your audio clips to -6 dB? I see you slamming the faders up to their maximum value and was curious as to whether you limited them via hard-mapping them in MIDI mode to a max of 0 dB or adjust your clip volume.

Thanks again; I really appreciate what you do.

  • Thanks for taking the time to show the "under the hood" stuff! I have seen many videos on youtube with controllerism performances, but not many that show how they did it. HUGE props to you on helping everybody out!!

  • Cheers mate. That's the idea. Show how it's done ;) If you like it, share the vids with other producers you know on your Facebook, Twitter etc. Lates!
