Talk about bringing back some VERY fond memories...my daddy had this classic rendition on his juke box at his old tavern "The Chuck Hole." God love you and miss you dad. May Uncle Willie's music live FOREVER! Good times, and God bless.
I saw Tracy Nelson for the first time last nite on Pop Goes the Country. I was blown away by her singing. Man how did I ever miss hearing her? I am definately going to find her albums. Beyond belief.
I am a fan of both Conway and Loretta, and liked the version of this song they did. However, this one has a drive about, and passionate sound that I like better. And I absolutley love Willie. His voice.... well, it just gets to me. He and Tracy blend so well together. She has a strong voice and can belt out a song better than anyone.
This was the first Willie Nelson song I remember hearing on radio, back in '74, but one thing I don't know, are Willie & Tracy related? I tried Wikipedia but they didn't say.
OMG, I loved her in the 60's. It just occured to me to look on Youtube for her. Yes, I am old with a sucky memory. I am in heaven listening to this. Well, maybe not, I don't want to heaven too soon.
Tracy Nelson is a forgotten gem. Easily the most powerful female voice I've ever heard. First heard her with Mother Earth...sings folk, rock, country, blues...the girl can sing. I once was sure that she would rival Jopllin.... did not happen for her. That's Linda Rondstat singing harmony on this little country ditty.
Actually, I'm not saying that YOU were claiming it was OP, but rather clarifying the status of the Tracy Nelson record on which the song first appeared. And, yes, it is also available on the Willie CD as well. As far as your service goes, I'm sure it's a welcome for those trying to find OP materials--as well as for the artists and songwriters who must be glad that their OP stuff is still bringing in royalties and gaining them recognition.
LInda's voice is not all that prominent on the track (it truly is a back up vocal), but you can hear her harmony line in the song's closing seconds.
Linda and Tracy did an actual duet on Earl Scruggs' classic LP I SAW THE LIGHT W/ A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS. That's one even fans of either singer don't tend to know about. Are you familiar w/ it?
The CD on which this tune originally appeared, the 1974 self-titled TRACY NELSON is NOT out of print. It can be readily found online at all the usual venues, and it's moderately priced.
You're right about that, as long as she can sing, the fire's going no where. Willy and Tracy aren't related, just singing friends.

As long as Tracy Nelson can sing, nobody needs to worry about the fire going anywhere.
