  • i tried as u said, but its says that codec doesn't support render options (divx) when its going to rendering. Any idea?

  • @SaZhei Hm which version of Sony Vegas and Divx are you using?

  • @SaZhei divx 6.4.2 and platinum 9.0

  • @SaZhei That might be your problem. I don't think you're using the right version of Vegas. I used Vegas Pro, not Platinum.

  • Hey, thanks bro. I was using WMV to get my HD compressed, but I've heard that DivX will render faster, produce a smaller file, and have basically the same quality.

  • Please i've got a problem, When I click on save a window pop up and says "An error happened at the conversion with the video Codec" sorry for bad english i'm french...

  • @FAILMOD Are you using the latest version of DIVX?

  • I don't see the divx codec for the video format, though I have it installed.

  • the HDV 720-30p setting isn't there, there are only 11 to choose from and they are all crappy.... :/

  • It took you 9:46 minutes to explain this?????

  • you are the man!!!

  • In the audio tab, i see the mpeg layer 3 but the attributs has no supported format, does that matter?

  • To be honest if you have heard rey mysterio speak in an interview thats how the man in the video sounds

  • Hey Matt very cool how-to video on how to render videos.

But I have a problem, I use the same settings as you but my videos in youtube are streched. My source video file is a recorded one from fraps in 1680x1050 resolution.

In the divx Codec settings I found format in and format out. Do you know which format I need to type in there?

  • @bfgguns

Nevermind, I need to put 1:1 ratio in both in and out fields.

    Thanks again for your tutorial

  • I have a problem: I can't find HDV 720-30p Intermediate in the Temple list. Using Sony Vegas 9.0

  • Which options do you have?

  • woah, finally i can encode my video into high quality. your awesome baby Matt who ever you are. haha! XD

    Good day!

  • Tut is great, but i use Vegas Platinum 9.0

and there isn't a "HDV 720-30p (1280×720, 29.970 fps)" template for the type "Video For Windows".

So i can't change the audio Codec to mpeg..

mh.. What can I/we do about it ?

  • I heard people were having difficulties if they weren't using Vegas Pro. My recommendation is to try and render your videos in the mp4 format using the h.264 encoder. It works really well.

  • I have the same Problem!

  • Hey, I'm using Vegas Pro 9.0 and I'm having a problem

When I get to rendering, "Template: HDV 720-30p intermediate" isn't on my list of options. When I go through the rest of the instructions I get an encoding error and I'm not sure what to do :x Help?

  • Actually like the person below me, I do see the option in Divx just not on Vegas.

  • @sarihiee Download it first

  • when i try to render it does not give me the option for 720p?

  • That's strange, they might have changed the settings screen.

  • @xFu510nx

well im using vegas 9 so that might be it

  • @dafuzzypanda808 Vegas 9 pro? Or just vegas 9? Is the 720p option not in vegas or not in the divx program?

  • subscribed...amazing tutorial!

  • What's the name of this program?

  • the program he's using is Sony Vegas Pro 7.0.

  • Thanks,i was waiting for the answer only 2 weeks.

  • He says what program he's using in:

    1) The description

    2) Comments

    3) The video itself

After all that you still needed to ask and, worse, waited two friggin' weeks until someone told you?

Bring your computer back to Best Buy and tell the chick at the customer service desk that you'd like to take advantage of the "I'm too stupid to use this" refund option.

    Sheesh!

    (Good tutorial - 4*)

  • why are you whispering, your voice is freaky

  • Oh and when I put Mpeg-3 it says there are no supported formats for the Attributes section. It'd be nice if you helped me out :D.

  • I ran into that issue with my version of Vegas. I'm not sure what the problem was but I couldn't export video using Divx and MP3. A good workaround is to get the free video converter program called "SUPER". Google it, it should come up. I render all of my videos in uncompressed AVI and then convert them using SUPER to DIVX. Hope that helps!

  • Oh cool thanks!

  • It's due to 64-bit Windows.

  • I can't find a way to import AVCHD videos from the camcorder to Sony Vegas Pro 9.

  • Dude. You take forever to get to the point.

  • Lmao

  • How can I get Divx?

  • youtube it

  • This is all nice and thanks but does it lag the videos? Your mouse cursor looks like it's ghosting in the video. Same with my skateboarding videos the board ghosts. I shot it at 50i does that mean I gotta render at 50fps.

  • The video was lagging because I was recording it on a 1.6ghz laptop with only 1 gig of memory. It's hard to playback in HD while recording if you don't have a powerful processor lol.

  • I know who matt is, my hero!

Thanks so much, I've struggled with these 2 programs for ages. I've cried.

    It's working now, thanks!!!

  • is divx necessary?

  • Divx just compresses the .avi format so you aren't uploading a 10 minute video that is 20 gigs in size. It also does a better job of keeping the audio in sync with the video.

  • Does anyone know how to get my videos in widescreen with Windows?

I've changed my ratio to 16:9 but it's still not widescreen.

  • You can use the event pan/crop feature in Sony Vegas to stretch your video to fit the whole screen. If you do this though some of the top and bottom of the video will be cut off.

  • When i preview my video in the preview window , there is lot of horizontal lines. What's wrong? how do I fix it?

  • Your video is interlaced. It's how your camera shoots the video. To fix it when it renders our make sure that in your project properties, your "field order" is set to "progressive scan".

  • i downloaded the trial version of sony vegas 9, but there is no option to encode in divx when i go to custom and the video tab. Is it because its the trial version?

  • use avi, its basically same as divx, avi is a spin off from divx

  • Actually divx is a spinoff of avi lol.

  • yea your right, sorry i got my brain in backwards lol ,

still there both very much the same though

  • I have a sony hdr-cx100. How do I avoid interlace showing in my video without sony vegas?

  • You don't have Sony Vegas? You will have to deinterlace the video using another video program as well.

  • Does this work on any camera? or does it have to be a "HD" camera?

    Cheers

    Alex

  • It will work on any camera and enable the Youtube HD option. Your camera quality is most likely better than the standard Youtube quality which means that if you encode it using these settings your video will look much better.

  • theres loads of ways and yea any camera, mine is a DCR-SR75 sony handy camera, ive been testing hd formats all last week, theres some on my page, note my cam is not a HD,

  • I followed this to the T and when i upload my video, on normal playback its ,eh,ok, but the HD is lagging badly. Any clues??? If you need more info ,please let me know. It plays very nice on my PC.I do use Vegas 8 pro, i have it all. UGH! I can watch this in HD and others, just mine lag.

    Thanks,

    Peace,

    Joe

  • Hmm let me see if I understand.... so only your HD videos lag but whenever you watch other HD videos on the site they don't lag?

  • right. I dont get it. I upload a "HD" video and it plays SD fine but when I hit HD its all laggy. I will keep trying.

Every other video I watch in HQ/HD is fine.

  • Hmm that's very strange indeed. Which video are you referring to...send me a link and I will see if it is laggy for me too.

Also have you restarted your computer and cleared your browser cache and deleted your temp internet files etc?

  • /watch?v=Pwl0aKkFO6Q

yes i have cleaned those things out. The video link above is a "webcam" video..not done with a camcorder...so i dont expect great results. :)

  • When you say laggy do you mean dropping frames and skipping or do you mean the audio doesn't sync well with the video? Also, what kind of computer do you have? (CPU speed and amount of RAM.)

  • Audio/video KINDA out of sync...bad quality, not really dropping frames but that could be an issue, although its fine in SD playback.

HP Media Center PC, 2 GB Ram, Pent 4.3.06 ghz

  • Hmm that's very weird. I watched the whole video and realized that I didn't need to ask you what kind of system you had cause you said it in the vid...but i had already commented.

When I watched it, the video was in sync with the audio and there was some jumpyness but I might attribute that to the kind of camera you are using. Sometimes Youtube does have hiccups though. Have you tried uploading other videos and seen if they had the same results?

  • Yeah for the most part they are all the same results. Funny thing is i used a webcam for that video not my camcorder..I thought it was odd that would look better than the others. I did a 0.38 screen capture through camtasia 6 and captured in in .avi rendered it as a .mov, uploaded it and it was mint, i loved it ,but the video was just a test...not sure if i can encode a video through camtasia.

  • Hmm that is strange. Higher native bitrate maybe? The video looked like most camtasia captures ones do that I've seen...pretty but a little stuttery.

  • Im having the same problem but my video also doesnt fit the entire screen. Any suggestions? Thanks for this video man.

  • You can use the event pan/crop feature in Sony Vegas to stretch your video to fit the whole screen. If you do this though some of the top and bottom of the video will be cut off.

  • Ehm, i believe an MP4 x.264 will look better in here.

  • Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm using Vegas 8.0.

I followed all the steps and tried again, but when I upload it to YouTube, it's not widescreen.

  • You might have to stretch the video using the event pan/crop feature.

  • cAN U NOT DO IT THROUGH THE 'WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER'?.. I NEED HELP.. PLEASE REPLY

  • Sorry, windows movie maker doesn't offer nearly the amount of tools necessary to edit the video.

  • Great info, Matt.

    Thanks!!!

  • yes it works perfectly "subscribed"

  • how do i get the video to fit the who screen

    it isnt for me

    comment bak plz

  • watch my tutorial

  • It should be in your start menu under programs. Did you try restarting your computer as well as sony vegas after installing divx?

  • when i am up to the part in 6:40 when you are choosing divx from the video format i do not see it in the drag down box, but i am positive i installed it

  • I have been trying to edit videos on Sony Vegas for a month or so... If you can help me: I want to know how to take out the side black bars i think they' re called something like a letterbox...

  • What resolution are you rendering your videos at?

  • If you're talking about the rendering quality that would be "best"

All I'm trying to do is make my 4:3 video to a 16:9 video, do you know how?

  • Gotcha, to resize your 4:3 to 16:9 you will end up cutting off a bit from the top and bottom but it is possible. To resize your footage, you need to open Vegas and select your clip in the timeline. There should be 2 buttons. One should say "event pan crop". Open that and stretch the clip horizontally so it fills the screen. Then render. Let me know by posting a video response if it works!

  • I've already tried that but I need the full video... Do you know how to stretch it without cutting off any part?

  • When you're in the event pan crop window there's some buttons on the left side. There's one that says "Lock Aspect Ratio". Deselect that one and stretch the video.

  • How do I stretch it because when I select the whole video it takes it out of the wide screen and back to 4:3

  • I think you'll have to select each clip and stretch them individually.

  • I need help. I cant use MPEG Layer 3 audio. When I try to save the template it wont accept that setting and it'll save it with PCM Uncompressed audio. I mean I click save with the MP3 audio setting and it changes back to PCM. What's wrong?

  • Are there no individual settings for the MPEG Layer 3 audio or do you have choices of which types of MP3 audio you want to enable?

  • When I select MPEG Layer 3 all the other options gray out (and "attributes" option says "no supported formats").

Also if I dont save the template and just click ok with that setting enabled, I get an error. It says "the custom template you selected is not valid with the current project settings. It has been filtered out of the template list."

What is that supposed to mean? I'm rendering a video I found around my stuff, maybe it's got something to do with it's audio format or something?

  • Nvm, I read that it can be solved installing a MPEG Layer 3 codec.

Do you recommend any? Where can I download one from?

  • H.246 progressive at 24fps.

you will have to re correct gamma, and increase contrast slightly as H.264 will look washed out otherwise. Buy quicktime pro for this codec. (about 20 quid I think) Thats it and upload.

  • urs is more widescreen den every1 elses if u click kigh quality how'd u do it

  • I did exactly what you told me to do and it still wasnt widescreen and still normal quality. Guess I just have bad luck :(

  • how did this take nearly 10 minutes to show lol

  • So peolpe that ahve decent computers will be able to view it properly that all im concerned about.

  • Whenever i watch videos i uploaded in hde or anyone elses in hd i see a huge framrate lag is the normal?

  • My computer used to do that until I purchased more RAM.

  • Is this any good for games? Like fast paced spinning the camera round type of thing.

  • I don't see why that wouldn't work.

  • Thanks dude... your the shit!!!

  • Thank you so much.

  • your video is torture to watch. it took 6 minutes for you to start telling us what we need to know. this is youtube - the average attention span of its users is little more than two seconds.

  • What screen recording software are you using? I've searched through the comments and haven't found any info about that.

  • I use Camtasia Studio. Works really well!

  • Could you please explain me how you're zooming in while recording the video in full screen? I guess it's a shortcut however I haven't been able to find it =/

    Thanks.

  • thanks for the help!!!! it worked

  • Is there a way I can render it to get Widescreen and just High Quality? (Instead of HD)

  • Hmmm... When I try to render it with the said settings I get the error 'The selected codec does not support the current render settings.'

    Why?

  • That error usually pops up when you haven't selected the Divx 720HD Profile in your codec settings. Make sure it's selected and you followed the rest of the directions and it should work.

  • Nice ...but your video is WAY TOO LONG grrr...just need the skinny / settings mate

    Thanks for posting though

  • haha your sooo right!!! your gonna go right ahead and EDIT that!

  • who are you Matt?

  • i went through all the steps, and im rendering now! thanks so much, i hope my video looks good, but if it doesn't i don't think its your fault, its probably the size of my original clips....

  • The footage I capture is 720x480. Can it be resized to fit the HD 1280x720 settings without having black bars?

  • To resize your footage, you need to open Vegas and select your clip in the timeline. There should be 2 buttons. One should say "event pan crop". Open that and stretch the clip so it fills the screen. Then render. Let me know by posting a video response if it works!

  • AVI sucks for quality it should had been MP4

  • Sony Vegas trial is not "just" as good. It has less render options. Just be honest and admit that you pirated the software.

  • LOL I never said that I was using the trial in the video tutorial. I merely stated where you can get a trial version. Why are you assuming that because I'm using a $500 piece of software that I pirated it?

  • Nah, its just so easy to pirate anything these days. You could have easily told him to download a torrent, but i assume you have your reasons.

  • Haha oh I know that torrents are easy to come by don't get me wrong. It just that I wouldn't feel comfortable endorsing illegal activity in a video that 6,000 people have just watched.

  • Ha, I know exactly what you mean. Also, it's just something everyone knows, kind of like a well known secret.

  • When I go to select MPEG Layer-3 for my audio, Sony Vegas says that I don't have any supported formats in the "attributes" section, and it goes back to the default setting. Any tips?

  • Me too. HELP.

  • thanks for the vid

  • where i can download?

  • Watch the video I show the links. Or just click the link to go to my site in the video description then go to the site.

  • i is it possible with Windows movie maker

(I THINK THATS A DUM QUESTION)

  • Sadly not, but if you watch the video I show how to get a free trial of Vegas which is just as good.

  • Hey, my video file take like 4 gig for 10 minutts walktrough, wich im doing, now it anoying for me whenever i come with a video, wich is wery often, Any sugestions to make the file smaler without killing the qualtiy?

    rendering options: HD (1280x720)

    Please reply!

    Tahnks

  • Are you using divx?

  • I installet divx like you said, but i never found that settings thingy you had, ps. i have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0

  • Hmm that might be why. I did my tutorial with Vegas Pro, not movie studio. One option you have is to use the "divx converter" that you downloaded when you downloaded the codec. Try that on your videos and it should cut the size down considerably.

  • divx? do i NEED in order to make it HD if yes is it free if so where can i download?

  • Sick quality.

  • You can't stretch the video without leaving the top and bottom off even if you click the 16:9 button and the aspect ratio hold thing. Argh I'm confused, I'll try some solutions thanks Fusion :D

  • Are you talking about the "hold aspect ratio" button in the "event pan/crop" window? I was going to suggest turning that off and trying it lol.

  • kudos

  • bless your soul! hahaha! ive been stupid and i save it as plain avi then i convert it with divx converter... now i have a one step process! thank you!!!!! :D

  • Haha glad I could help!

  • :D YOU DID! BUT! I was wondering... I have two thin black letterbox line at the top and bottom one of my videos. And I followed all of your settings. The quality is good, but I still have small tiny black lines. Can you help me?

  • Hmm can you post it as a video response so I can see which video you are referring to?

  • :S I deleted the one i had just posted as a quality test with your settings... although.. this did happen to my previous videos with the divx converter... idk if that helps but its exactly what I talking about, and its exactly what happened to the video i posted with your settings. so ill post a video response of it now.

  • Hmm I see what you mean. The small black lines a the top and bottom. That's strange because I render all of my stuff in 1280x720.

You could open Vegas and select your clip, select "event pan/crop" its one of the 2 buttons on the clip. Then stretch the video ever so slightly vertically so the lines wouldn't appear.

Let me know if that works.

  • ill try that! that you ;)

  • okay i tried it, it doesnt work... it zooms in and stuff but the black lines remain! :S

  • Hmm I would try expanding the size of the clip in the properties from 1280x720 to something slightly larger. Say, 1280x725? or something like that. That might makes the lines go away.

  • okay! thank you so much for going through this with me! you've been a big help!!! :D

i think changing the dimensions will work! i'll let you know! ;)

  • okay! thank you so much for going through this with me! you've been a big help!!! :D

i think changing the dimensions will work! i'll let you know! ;)

    ONE LAST PROBLEM

the quality is good on the videos with your settings, but the video appears very pixelated when there is a lot of motion, when the camera is still, it looks okay. i will post a video response of my latest video to show you an example!

  • you know what... maybe it just takes a while to encode on youtube, because sometimes video appear like that put after a day it looks better... so ill wait and see what happens! ;)

  • The black bars at the side. I have to find a way to stretch the video to rid of that black bar. Know any ways ?

  • Oh that, what you can do is to stretch the video. To do that, you need to open vegas and select your clip in the timeline. There should be 2 buttons. One should say "event pan crop". Open that and stretch the clip so it fills the screen. Then render. Let me know by posting a video response if it works!

  • Wow, this is REALLY high quality for youtube. maybe i'll just buy vegas and kiss my shitty ulead studio goodbye!

  • yeah the quality is sick but the file is 4 GBs : DD and it takes forever to put on utube

  • on my vid id get the watch in hd thing

  • Great. Thanks alot, bro! You just saved my life.

  • Hmm, I follow your inttructions exactly, but When I click to render it, I get a message saying:

"An error occured while creating the media File.

The selected codec does not support the current render settings"

    And it doesnt work Help!

  • Hmm that occurs when you don't have DIVX setup properly. Make sure that when you are customizing the Divx settings you have it set to the 720pHD profile.

  • I had this error message too and found out that somehow the audio codec changed to Lame MP3 even though I set it to MPEG Layer-3 before. It happened when I saved the template.

  • Yeah, I have to start from Uncompressed Template, then change my settings from there, rather than save a template. Im Working now :)

  • Is there a way to take away the black bars ? like if my video is 1024x768 and I trying to do this tutorial how do I remove the black bars for widescreen or is it default ? I am testing right now currently uploading. Be ready for a video response.

    Thanks for the tutorial.

  • Hmmm with the youtube widescreen player I'm not seeing any black bars. Or am I just not understanding your question?

  • nvm it worked you just ahve to wait a bit

  • I folowed all the steps and when i uplaoded the video to Youtube is didn't have and HQ setting when watching the video? Do you have to film wiht an HD camera to do this?

  • After rendering in that way. The video has black screen i can hear only sound, what should i do?

  • Hmm try watching it with VLC media player. It should be visible.

  • I don't know why my PC doesn't want to render in HD.

    My spec.

    GeForce 8600GTS 256mb

    Athlon 64 2x 3.00Ghz

    2 gb ram

    Win XP SP3

  • I couldn't see the audio under the MPEG-3 thing.

    Which one should I choose.

  • I did a gaming console captured video, Its up, its in HD but I have no sound on it, any help?

  • Hmm can you post it as a video response?

  • Ive watched three videos in HD and they all skip. Even if its because my computer is too slow, it still means that I cant watch videos in HD and it makes it kinda useless.

  • sure it looks good but it barley loads because its so large... >.>

  • Hey Matt. I have done everything you have said. But i just want to know this that when i record it with Camtasia Studio what do i do with that like which size should that be?

  • For some reason it doesnt make it HD! I followed everything but the only thing i dont have is the 1 logical
