  • Great aircraft but aged. I would much rather fly in a computerised MD-11. Less prone to human error in so many ways.

    As for the MD-11 being less successful than the DC-10 this is partly due to boeing buying MD and favouring the 777. Dont forget that the MD-11 was one of the most advanced aircraft at the time it was introduced.

  • How come EGT on n 2 engine is showing 624 and the other two engines show 650 yet the needle is in identic position on all three gauges?

  • @strela1 The difference is so little, that the needles seem to be pointing in the same position. But if you put it on fullscreen you will recognize that the No.2 EGR is slightly less. Dont forget that it can vary between 0 and aprox. 1000 :)

  • I always felt safer with a flight engineer in the cockpit.takes a load off the pilots so in an emergency they can concentrate on flying the plane.

  • Love the cockpit in these,you can clearly see over the dash,that would bug me as a pilot not being able to see over the dash.

    Wieso sollte der besoffen sein? Die DC-10 hat drei Triebwerke! Jeweils eins an den Tragflächen und eins am Seitenleitwerk!

  • @BorisKnoT the 3rd fella in the cockpit should be called "navigator" if I'm not mistaken. He is FMC himself :)

  • Its the same with planes as with cars: the best were build in the 80s and 90s. Keep ur 787 and A380 shit to urselves and refit 747s and DC-10s with hydrogen burning engines, those are all mankind will ever need.

  • Die DC-10 / MD-11 ist einfach ein wunderbares Flugzeug. Ich bin mal mit einer MD-11 der LTU geflogen. Ist wirklich ein toller Flieger. Leider gibt es MD nicht mehr eigenständig. :-( Und LH fligt nur die MD nur noch als Frachtflieger...

    The DC 10 / MD 11 is realy a wonderful aircraft. I´ve been flying with a MD-11 from LTU. It is realy a great plane. Regrettably MD is no longer self-contained. :-( And LH is flying the MD in the cargo-section only...

  • @MafiaGENGTEAM1970 so....many crashes due to a cargo door which MD fixed VERY long ago, Despite its troubled beginnings in the 1970s, which gave it an unfavorable reputation, the DC-10 has proved a reliable aircraft. The Turkish airways crash in 1974 was due to the faulty cargo door, forcing MD to investigate this. Ever since the fix, The DC-10 experienced no more major incidents related to its cargo door after FAA-approved changes were made.

  • I always loved the looks of the DC-10. They should fly again. Maybe they could update the cockpit to todays standards ( with less dials and more screens) and fly it again. = ]

    They have. The modernized version of DC-10 is MD-11

  • FedEx has done that. They took their DC-10's and replaced the panels and onboard computers with that of the MD-11. They call them MD-10's.

  • @ZR3FR1K Some have been. They had a glass cockpit like the MD-11 installed and were re-designated MD-10 (Some sources say DC-11, so maybe both...)

  • In terms of fuel efficiency and economics; yes.

    It was grounded due to fuel cost being too high, it couldn't make a profit.

  • @killerman778 well let me put it this way. the MD-11 is the newer version of the DC-10. it has electronics instead of gyroscopes and devices of that sort. it is also longer (like my....oh never mind) and has winglets

    Yes, it is!. The MD-11 is an improved, enlarged version of the old DC-10. Anyway, the MD-11 was not as successful as the DC-10 was.

  • @solomonpilot767 yes in a certain way you're right , but the DC10 is well know all around the world .during the 80's people used to fly those DC10 and to see them over in the sky . I remember with my friend , we used to see UTA & Swissair DC10 flying high over our primary school every thirsdays .

  • @applesweeter I'll feel like a child impatient to try his christmas gifts .I'll spend time watching at all the instrumental indicators , touch lightly with my hands as if it was a girl body , push the switches on and off ,levers and all kind of buttons , then I'll buy a DC10 manual to study the use of each indicators . I won't do this in 2 or threee day , but over months after being back from job , in order to make my pleasure lasting .

  • If it's not too heavy. We practice a go-around with only one engine on the DC-10 and MD-11 in the simulator every six months. It's usually on one wing engine as a worst case scenario. It's tough to maintain directional control. With only the tail engine it's a matter of pitch control. If you increase thrust it pitches the nose down and vice-versa.

  • Sorry I took so long to get back to you. It's from the cockpit series "Harry's Cockpit Flight". It's produced by BL&P in Germany.

  • Da kann man mal sehen wie schnell so ein Flugzeug landet (hier die DC-10). Ich war am Flughafen Fankfurt und man hat deutlich gesehen, dass die Landung eines Flugzeuges von außen auch die einer DC-10 langsam ausschaut, obwohl es ja ca. 300km/h sind. Im Cockpit erkenn man dieses sehr gut!
