  • thx.

  • This transcoding software is no longer online at the Panasonic Website. Where can I get it?

  • @electronikitten The link is at the top of the video and runs the entire length.

  • please link for :AVCHD Transcoder, thanks :D

  • @Sennolino The link to download the software now runs the entire length of the video.

  • Yes this will work with Xpress 5.7.2. You can upgrade for free to 5.8.4 and suggest you do that.

  • and what about avid xpress 5.7.2?

  • Hey man one thing I'm using a Mac and it says the same problem but I'm using a Song AVCHD. I tried to get the software but it's not available for the Mac.

    Please help me.

    Thanks :)

  • @crash9321 What version of Media Composer are you using? AVCHD support was added in MC 5.

  • @AvidEvangelistBob I dont have a media composer anyways? :)

  • Thanks for the link, been pulling my hair out trying to get panasonic's mts into the avid.

  • It looks like Panasonic has removed this program from their website. Anywhere else you know I could find it?

    Thanks!

  • @VideoWorks I added a link to the end of the video where the software can be downloaded.

  • Where do you get that transcoder? All I can find is this messed up japanese page.

  • @SvenOkonomi Follow the link at the end of the video. At the bottom/center of the page its listed under software.

  • @AvidEvangelistBob Thats just a detour that still takes me to this japanese site. All I can find there is some mac software and some decoders. Dont I need an encoder to convert stuff?

  • where can I find this software? can't find it on on panasonic's site :(

  • hi, i have media composer 3.5.4, i have transcoded my footage and it appears as ~50 mxf filesi in the video folder, when i import them, only about 10 clips appear, what am i doing wrong?

  • @LiquidWaterPark Does it appear that you're missing any video? The DVCProHD codec is considerably larger than the AVCHD codec. The Physical P2 Cards are formatted as FAT32 so the files can be 4 Gig at Max. Because of this a single clip could be made up of a number of MXF files. Also each channel of audio is a separate MXF file.

  • @AvidEvangelistBob yes, video is missing when I try to import most of the footage at once after transcoding it. also, in media composer 5.0, some larger avc files will not import, i know it has something to do with FAT32, but im not sure how to solve it. there must be a way, considering imovie can import 1 hour long clips of the same hd footage.

  • @AvidEvangelistBob and by the way, the AVCHD Transcoder has suddenly been discontinued by Panasonic, is there any other way of obtaining it?

  • i manage to import clip, but without audio, there are audio tracks but they are empty and original clip have sound...

    any solutions?

  • @ivivor How did you "import" the clip? What version of Media Composer are you using? I suggest posting this question on the Avid Community Forums.

  • I can select a file to transcode but the "output" section stays greyed out as well as the "transcode" button. I read the manual and I believe my files are compatible. Any ideas why it's not allowing me to proceed?

  • @OrderandChaos I have the same problem with some footage I shot at 50 f/s and I cant get it into AVid nor transcode it with this. Did you find a solution for your problem, maybe you can help me out?

  • @OrderandChaos - I have the same problem with a footage I shot at 50 f/s which I can neither import to Avid nor transcode with this - same "Grey" issue. Did you get this fixed by any chance, could you help me out with a suggestion?

  • Respond to this video... @OrderandChaos - I have the same problem with a footage I shot at 50 f/s which I can neither import to Avid nor transcode with this - same "Grey" issue. Did you get this fixed by any chance, could you help me out with a suggestion?

  • @gillraen The reason it doesn't work is because the program only works with footage recorded from that model of camera, not media type. Special Panasonic codec nonsense. I ended up converting the footage using ISkySoft to convert to a compatible MP4 format. But what you may want to try first is this... In media composer 4 and above there is an AMA import setting. Does your camera record the audio and video separately and contains each video file in its own file folder? If so, link it with AMA.

  • @gillraen Copy and paste all your video maintaining the file structure created by your camera to your Desktop. Then open avid, click file and then I think it's "Link AMA" or something like that. Point avid to the folder containing all the video. Make sure you select the folder at the the top of the tree. Avid knows to go deeper into the file structure to find the footage and audio. If that doesn't work you can always try to convert it. I'll post a list of good conversion programs later.

  • @OrderandChaos Video Encoders to try if AMA doesn't work: Sorenson Squeeze 6, TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress, iSkysoft, WinFF, Hand Break.

  • @OrderandChaos ty for you help and sorry for writing the reply 3 times, youtube fail i think :). Anyway, I finally managed to transcode it to H264 HD by using a whole different software... annoying thing, really. Tx a bunch again!

  • I am running Media Composer 3.0 on a Mac. Is there another way for me to edit AVCCam footage without first importing into FCP, exporting quicktimes, and then importing into MC? The only trans coder on the Panasonic website is for Windows.

  • @CrewestoneMediaGroup

Media Composer 5 can import AVCHD. Outside of that try VideoPier or VoltaicHD.

  • Hi, where can you download a free AVCHD to P2 DVC PRO transcoder ? I tried some links but nothing is working. At the moment, I convert AVCHD to QT and it's very long, and then import QT into AVID, and it takes long too... So it will realy helps if I can find that P2 DVC PRO transcoder...

    Thnaks for your response

  • @Nitram1973 A link to download the AVCHD to P2 software can be found on the Panasonic AVCCAM page.

  • For P2, you want to select the folder where the Contents and Last Clip.txt are located.

  • Import to P2 was replace by AMA. Use the Link to AMA command.

  • Ok, so I have the HMC40. This P2 converter works fine with my 720 60p/30p, 24pNative, and 1080 60i/30p. However, I am not able to get my avid to read files from the program that convert 1080 24pN footage to read in 24p, avid sees it at 30p/60i instead of 24pN. Help anyone. I'm running 2.8.1 on my system and plan to upgrade with academic superstore (I'm a student).

  • Look on page 10 of the PDF manual that ships with the software. The software will convert the 1080p/23.98 to what Panasonic calls1080i/23.98pA. This is a 1080i/59.94 clip with Advanced pulldown added and on MC 2.8.1 will only play in a 29.97 project type.

MC 4 can remove the pulldown automatically.

  • @AvidEvangelistBob

So the AVCHD footage (which I know is a native 24pN file, 24 frames per second) when converted to DVCProHD or P2 in the 1080 24p frame rate, is that like you said, it's actually written in a 60i frame rate but with a 2332 or 2323 pulldown insertion? So in a 24pN timeline I'll remove the pulldown apon importing/transcoding the clips to bin files. I must have a different manual, but I will keep looking. Thank you for responding to mine and everyone elses questions.

  • In the DVCProHD codec there isn't a 1080p/23.98 frame rate. 24pN is 720p/23.98. So the software transcodes to the closest format there is using the DVCProHD codec; 1080i/23.98A - A for Advanced Pulldown.

Media Composer 4 is able to mix frame rates in a sequence by automatically applying what's called "motion adapters" to clips. The motion adapter effect is able to remove the proper 3:2.

  • @AvidEvangelistBob

I understand now, I also just found a small thread on avid community concerning my exact issue. In short, the P2 converter converts my .mts 1080 24pN files into DVCProHD 1080 24pA files, which is not 24pN, requiring that I import into 60i timeline to view. I'll just use that format for bigger projects and stick to my TMPGEnc software for 24pN conversions until I upgrade to MC 4.0 which you said will remove the pulldown in the P2 1080 24pA when in a Avid 1080 24pN timeline?

  • Just so you understand, the term, 24pN has a single meaning, DVCProHD P2 at 23.98. You shouldn't use 24pN in place of 23.98.

Unlike Normal Pulldown, Advanced Pulldown is designed to be removed and not have all the frames played. Advanced pulldown doesn't look good when all the frames are played.

Until you have MC 4, I recommend not shooting 1080p/23.98 and honestly think you'll be very happy with the picture quality recording 720p/23.98 - which will convert to 24pN.

  • How much longer than real time? With Sony's introduction of the nxcam, will avid work on support for avchd? thank you

  • It all depends on your computer. The faster the computer, the faster the transcode.

  • @thebadkids

The AVCHD to P2 encoder is great, my quad core Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz does it at 20-40 processed frames per second. Thus, converting 720 24pN footage is quicker than 720 60p footage, which is also the same as 1080 60i/30p. It's still pretty fast.

  • Yes. this works the same with NewsCutter, Media Composer and Symphony.

  • Hey Bob whats Real Time?

  • @TrunxX69

Real-Time means 1 hour of video takes 1 hour to transcode. A faster computer will do this faster.

  • Ok does Sony vegas Have Real Time editing like Xpress? And Before I said How come when I import my iron Man Movie in Avid it takes forever but in vegas a whole movie is like 4 hours

  • @TrunxX69

I really can't talk about Sony Vegas. When you import the file into Media Composer that isn't natively supported, the codec is transcoded to an Avid codec. If the frame rate/size doesn't match this will also be changed. You want to make sure the project format matches the format of the video. You want to do as little resizing and frame rate conversion. This is what takes so much time.

  • That all good.... But what do you do when you have a SONY HDR camera MTS file?

  • tnxs...

how do i export the movie to dvd

    and to internt ?

    tnxs again.

  • I suggest you post your question on the avid community forums.

  • i have medya composer 3.5 and i dont see in "file" "import p2". why ?

  • Use the Link to AMA command in Media Composer 3.5.

  • it is stil not wording

  • I'm going to need more details if you'd like me to help. As an option AMA can be turned off: Setting > AMA > Volume Mounting. Uncheck Enable AMA and restart the Media Composer. The Import P2 Clips to Bin Command will be present.

  • But then... We must always convert the AVCHD files first and then we can work with it ??

What editing software does support AVCHD files to work directly with it ??

  • At this point to use AVCHD in the Media Composer it must be transcoded. Pinnacle Studio supports AVCHD natively.

  • TMPGenc can convert the AVCHD to a DNxHD QuickTime file.

  • Cool but you forgot to mention that that download is for WIN only! What's a MAC guy to do? Help please?!

  • VoltaicHD and VideoPier can convert AVCHD to a DNxHD QuickTime codec on the Mac

  • Will it decrease the quality?

  • This is great but the AVCHD to DVCPRO Transcoder

will not work on Canon HG10 files ..

Anyone know a way around this..
