  • I am Linux as well and using iPhone with a catch. It is UNIX and does use a healthy amount of GNU and FSF involvement thanks Richard Stallman and Linus!!

  • Hi, I'm GNU/Linux.

  • Oh Linux is there......

  • Mac isn't linux......

  • @Ubuntu4Noobs I like Linux Mint better, because unity killed Ubuntu.

  • Wouldn't linux be a fat guy with thick glasses and pizza stains on his star trek t-shirt?

  • @RealStealthyNinja No, I got the pizza stains out of my star trek t-shirt *weeks* ago, sir.

  • @RealStealthyNinja >.> my shirt is starwars....I'd never watch startreck, what do I look like some sort of nerd?

  • Windows PC Rules. Cheaper and BETTER! #1

  • @MrBrad1234567890 Cheaper, Windows cost around 100, Linux cost NOTHING

  • MAC WINS

  • I am a Linux too. I typing this comment from Linux right now.

  • I wonder what webOS and Chrome OS look like...

  • thumbs up if you're watching this on Linux!

  • The video is basically saying Linux is getting screwed by BOTH PC and Mac. Which is rather true in reality.

  • PC expects users to know how to fix computers. Mac is for normal people

  • @Asiats1 PC gives you the choice of fixing it yourself. Mac makes you send it to them, wait a few weeks and pay gazzilion dollars for a simple little fix.

  • @ignismare2 As a PC user how many hours per -day you spend fixing your PC? It must be a lot due to All the virus, blue screen of death, dll hell, trojans, Vista problems (Windows 7 is based on Vista ) ;)

  • @Asiats1 Per day? Statistically somewhere around...0,1 secods per day? I change the anti-virus software from time to time (when the license goes off) and that's probably it. I would say that takes an hour of my time once every six months. If I have problems like "Force an XP-based program to run on 7", it takes two to three clicks per installation. It just takes using your PC smart, without clicking on every single suspicious link there is, and the system runs fine.

  • @ignismare2 Sounds like you have lot of work to do, changing this changing that hahaha Viruses and Trojans are getting smarter everyday.. your PC is playing catchup trying to defeat these new Malware. Ever heard of Zeus rootkit? Even legit websites now contain viruses. Good luck! ;)

  • @Asiats1 Well, I have a choice of getting some extra work, or send it to the company, wait a few weeks (within which I'm closed off of my computer), and then STILL think I would buy the same PC for half the price a year before. Believe me, it's worth the extra 2-3 clicks :). And as for viruses...get yourself an antivirus program and you won't get a single one. Plus, I heard Mac isn't as "secure" as your guru claims it to be...

  • @Asiats1 uh, what? I have avast so no viruses or trojans, only took me a minute to install and is free. My computer doesn't break down because I'm not retarded. And no BSOD

and vista sucked.... that is really irrelevant. Only mistake Microsoft really made recently.

  • I use to like Linux because it was designed for hardcore geeks. Now it's looking more like Windows 98, and trying to be coool and shit. That's Mac culture, and I hate it.

  • What the hell is a Lienux?

  • @Asiats1 Forget about Linux, it's been dead for decades. The computer industry has always been a 2 horse race between PCs and Mac

  • Linux gets screwed by both PC and Mac. That's what the Ad is really saying LOL

  • Dual boot Windows 7 & Ubuntu is the best computer you can have.

  • @Ubuntu4Noobs And Fedora and OpenSuse (OpenSUSE LAMP servers are fucking awesome), Mandriva... Lets face it: Linux > Macintosh + Windows

  • Windows is called "windows" because it shows you stuff like other windows. These Windows just show how shitty computing can get. :)

  • Put it this way... Linux is for people who know what there doing when there on there computer.... Windows helps spoon feed things to you easier.. Not saying thats a bad thing.. some people prefer that.. but Linux provides ALOT more freedom and more control over your computer.

  • Windows has over 400 million users....

  • @KedViper yh why you think for pc you dont need to pay mach for mac you need

  • @overlord848 What?

  • @KedViper windows is more used becose even mac users yous windows 7 to play games like my i have windows 7 and mac osx

  • @overlord848 And it's usually cheaper. But I don't care. I was just saying that how they said Linux has 20 million users; that's not that much.

  • @KedViper *30 million

  • i use ubuntu and i have a vagina.... i also program and i have DDs

  • i love pc with seven , is best os in the world

  • Dual boot windows linux shoots mac out of the water. Games on windows and big boy stuff on linux...LIKE PROGRAMMING :D

  • why is mac using the uruguay football team shirt? :D

  • 0 of those linux users are female all half human half computer freaks that coexist with their computers while splooging over their operating system

  • @AntichristDemoncore i use ubuntu, i have a vagina, i program and i have DDs;-)

  • @Goodkittybottle1975: Can I use yer vagina OS? xD

  • @Goodkittybottle1975 I use Arch Linux and am thinking about using Gentoo :)

  • Fake! Home made

  • ima mac brooo get madd money at a young age & a lot of experience w this shtttt

  • Macs > PCs ... TWICE the COST for 1/4 the PERFORMANCE + NO GAMES WORTH PLAYING

  • @tubefan6719 amen brotha I love spending more money on shittier shit!

  • I tried Linux and fell in love. However my feelings are not shared with hardware manufacturers. So I got a Mac. But the day I feel Linux is ready for my needs, I'll switch over night!

  • I use CrunchBang and Ubuntu, and have used Linux Mint before.

  • Comment removed

  • What about BSD? *sighs* even free software advocates hide some things.

  • I have a Mac but use Windows side by side my Mac OS X. All the bugs in Windows make me hate windows- sort yourselves out Microsoft!

  • linux chick walks into a gay bar.

"So where do I gain root here?"

"oh sweetie, honey, ahem, your package is incompatible..."

  • There should be more of these

  • actually... linux holds %2 Mac holds %8, and pc holds%90 so if %2 = 30,000,000 people then mac has 32,400,000 people and windows has 67,000,000 people. That is only of linux really has 30,000,000 people.

  • @IIWrathII you must have (had) A at maths....

  • @IIWrathII i find your math.... flawed

    total, 1500 mio

    linux 2 %: 30 mio

    mac 8 %: 120 mio

    win 90 %: 1350 mio

    this is how math works

how did you graduate 4th grade?

  • @IIWrathII Linux hold 2% of what? Its installed on 2% of that 90 %... or did you just mean Windows when you said PC?

  • Linux, MacOS and Windows are all OS that run on PC, since PC stands for Personal Computer. Windows is still number one in users and dominates a huge share of the market. Macs are good for professional editors of audio and video but it's the most expensive and play almost no games. Linux is free but demands a profound knowledge to take advantage of the system and also have much less games than for windows.

  • @ftabah it actually doesn't take more knowledge, it just takes a different kind of knowledge. When you are young, you learn all kinds of new things, it is actually quite amazing the number of things you learn about computers when you are growing up, the sad thing is that most of those things are windows specific, if you had learned linux, and wanted to switch to windows when you got older, or try it out, you would think windows was complicated, I know because I see this all the time on the net

  • @supergenius1994 as a computer scientist I respectfully disagree. I used to think like you, but then I learned that Mac and Windows have professionals behind them, paid specifically to make the OS more intuitive and easy to use and manage. While linux, is made from users that mostly develop for their personal use. But i agree that it would be easier if schools and homes started having more linuxes installed... :D

  • @ftabah I do not know much about computers but as an artist I like the Mac more. I am not going to say it is better. That is a joke. there are some things I miss in the PC. What I do understand is the free market if on system was so bad that it can not companies in any nitch then it will not sell, or at least make enoff profit. All three have some nice things to offer and some big flaws. Funny thing is some advantages can be flaws at other moments like more softere and user more viruses.

  • Linux runs on the PC... poor girl, she has to share that body with that geek.

  • @madcomic80 aha, but Mac OS runs a modified linux kernel. you could say it's linux with silicone implants.

and for the record, you can always build a PC, not install windows on it and install linux instead, 100% windows free.

  • @BrEnNo1023 Mac OS runs on a Mac - Linux runs on a PC - Windows runs on a PC

So why does Linux have to be named separately. Its already part of the PC.

Both Linux and MacOS use a modified UNIX kernels. Linux just uses different silicone implants to use your own words.

But I only meant it as a joke, nothing wrong with a PC, Linux, or Windows... okey, thats a lie, Windows sucks :P

  • @madcomic80 ah yes, Unix, the kernel of kernels :P but you do realise that 'PC' is not just a term to describe a Windows-based computer, right? the term 'PC' only got stuck with Windows thanks to the good old Windows-vs-Mac marketing war...

PC stands for Personal Computer... which simply means it's your personal computer. whether it's windows, linux or MacOS, or your own entire operating system you designed in minecraft for all it's relevance. it's your personal computer, regardless of OS ^.^

  • @BrEnNo1023 Not true

PC is the name that IBM gave to his line of computers for personal use. It used something called DOS (Disk Operating System) and later Windows was created on the base of that program.

Macintosh is the name Apple gave to its line of computers. The Operating system that was preinstalled on the system was the operating system that later became known as the MacOS.

That some of the youngster forgot that this was the case, the term has somewhat drifted.

  • @darkmater4tm - also, the only reason you perceive Windows and Mac OS's to be more "intuitive" is because that's what you're used to using. Click for click, and key for key, Linux is actually easier to use.

  • @darkmater4tm - you are living in the past. There are already several distributions that fit your criterion. PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu, Mint, etc. They come with "live" CDs that allow you to demo the OS via a boot to your optical drive, and install a dual boot if you're not ready to give up on Windows or Mac.

Windows and Mac will eventually become obsolete, it'll just take some time for the dullard masses to finally realize it's not a smart move to keep paying MS and Apple for inferior work.

  • Linux is the better OS, and if the linux community could just give up their novice-hating culture and create a sufficiently intuitive distribution, windows and mac would become obsolete.

  • 0:31 I so want to say get the f*ck out of here.

  • Linux is the best! I LOVE LINUX!

  • Linux is ugly.

  • Novell went out of bussiness sadly

  • i dont use my computer to do very complex stuff like programing, so i got a mac

  • Linux is better, in future that thing will kick butt mac and pc arrogance

  • linux sucks, only about 3 million worldwide people use it and 15 million people worldwide use it, also for windows it is the most used computer ever, even today from about 90% of the world.

  • @theELEGUY WTF do you even know what your talking about? Must be a troll

  • @theELEGUY what you said doesn't really make any sense.

    mind explaining it, please?

  • @theELEGUY you seem to only be looking at linux in terms of the desktop market, in the supercomputer market, linux gained 80% of the market shares in just 10 years

  • @theELEGUY more people use it so it's better? ever heard of a monopoly?

  • My book brought me here

  • linux is great for alot of things like security, anti virus and hacking did you know hackers (crackers) use linux to hack into wep/wpa wifi networks.

  • @animefreak873 it's also used on supercomputers for it's security, and it completely dominates the server market, it is just such a shame that some people decide to use linux for unethical purposes

  • @ robilav I type Windowz just for humor >..>

  • Linux sucks

  • @robilav Windowz sucks

  • @91jmda ha ha ha ha you dont even know how to type windows is not windowz is windows fcking linux user.

  • we are not more but we know what computer is about! linux!!!

  • I like glide 4.0 best it is my favorite os

  • THERE ARE 300 MILLION PC USERS?!?!?!?!

  • Linux has vagina....so i chose that one...can you blame me?

  • @Maestroxxx1

    cuz its "open source"?... hmm...

  • @Maestroxxx1 what comes around... mhuehuehue.

  • Says The Person With A 240p Video.

  • Lol Windows =90%+ of the Computer market, Mac= the remaining percect, And linux has no market.

    :3

Looks like windows is number 1

  • @FranBunnyFFXII You might care market than on OS and give money to someone for nothing. I care more on OS and it's freedom and power. I care what I get in return than market which is full of dumb customers.

  • @pravicpu If you don't care about the 'dumb customers' whose money has allowed the personal computing industry to grow then you have nothing valuable to contribute to the operating system argument.

  • @ReinnResauq Yes I don't care. coz that was a marketing myth. Linux is improving by people's contribution without any marketing of this OS. there is no need of money from dumb customers to grow this OS.

  • @pravicpu How is linux supposed to grow out of it's infinitesimal niche without consumers? If you don't care about that issue, you have nothing valuable to contribute here. This video is not about "Linux is awesome." Its about Linux vs Windows vs OSX. What's better for those 'dumb customers' is the key issue.

  • @ReinnResauq Who said Linux have infinitesimal customers. Most of the developments in Linux is done by its users itself without even marketing the OS. dumb customers should get justice. I don't see huge difficulties in using Linux and don't see very easy to use windows or OSX. Its a matter of habits. Time will change that

  • @pravicpu Most recent projections put current Linux market share around 1% for the home user. That's less than iOS adoption. People change habits when there's something in it for them and unless you want endless configuration options -which makes me wonder why it couldn't be done right the first time- I've not heard a valid argument in favor of Linux over OSX. If you think Linux is easy, fair enough, so is flying a plane. Put a neophyte into the cockpit however and it's a different story.

  • @ReinnResauq "Most recent projections...."

This statement is somewhat misleading. Yes Linux on x86(-64) for home usage is somewhat uncommon (as reflected by the number you listed). E.g. factor in Meego, Maemo, LiMo, Web OS, and most importantly Android and that number would be higher than iOS market share.

    See next post.

  • @ReinnResauq

    "People change...."

This assumes they've heard of competing products. Most people haven't even heard of Linux. Releases of Linux that have been heavily advertised (i.e. Android) on the other hand have done quite well. It being free may be enough for many people.

"If you think Linux is easy...."

Please point out exactly what makes Linux so difficult to use (and I do mean a specific instance/example) relative to Windows. IMO the primary issue stems from hardware compatibility.

  • @LordDestros I can't do that because no one has ever given me an compelling reason to use Linux over what I have now. However, one can pick up several points if one reads about it. First is that there's an amount of command line inputs, a valuable skill to be sure, but one I haven't used since I was about ten. Secondly, every indication has been that Linux wasn't designed for ordinary users. Could be wrong...but until I hear a good reason to even try, I'm not going to.

  • @ReinnResauq "However, one can pick up several points if one reads about it."

Yes and there are several places indicating how Windows is infested with viruses and how Mac OS X has no games at all but neither are necessarily true.

    "...command line inputs...."

Though CLI usage might be commonly used (commands are GUI-agnostic), that does not make it mandatory (at least not the vast majority of the time). By that logic, Windows might also require CLI commands an "amount" of the time.

  • @ReinnResauq "Secondly, every indication has been that Linux wasn't designed for ordinary users."

One can argue the same thing about Mac OS X or Windows in that case as well. After all, Mac OS X originated from NeXTSTEP and modern releases of Windows are all based on NT; both of these operating systems being intended for business workstations/servers. As for Linux, different distributions focus on different areas. E.g. Ubuntu's slogan is "Linux for human beings".

  • @ReinnResauq "...I'm not going to."

If you don't think you'll see any benefit personally or don't want to then don't bother. I use Linux regularly and enjoy it. If you decide you are interested in either seeing it run or running it for yourself however then there's always the option of viewing video demonstrations of various distributions here on YouTube (e.g. search "Ubuntu" or "Linux Mint") or testing it by running a LiveUSB/LiveCD so that you do not need to modify HD partitioning.

  • @ReinnResauq If you don't see the capabilities of Linux I mentioned, there is no point in arguing again and again. live with your OS. We call it as living like a frog in a well believing it as the whole universe.

  • @pravicpu I see the capabilities of Linux, I just don't see how they benefit me. And neither you nor any other Linux user I've ever talked to has actually brought anything to the table on that side. Infinite configuration is useless for someone who doesn't actually want to configure anything.

  • @ReinnResauq Basic configuration is enough for common use. Only difference is that it is done in a different way than many computer users are used to in windows. Its the same for new users of Mac too, but they don't say it open. Configuration is just one thing. Have u tried updating softwares or OS in Linux? It completely replaces old one rather than patching as in windows. Ever checked the speed, reliability, CPU use, etc..? I am not going to scripting, networking workstation etc.. again

  • @pravicpu

    all over an OS?

  • So here's a question for you linux users out there; I use a MacBook Pro and have a homebuilt PC running Winblows for games. Show me where Linux does the things I use my computer for better than either OSX or Winblows. Web browsing, managing and manipulating media, creating things, and games. Everyone talks about how great Linux is, but besides security, the arguments are relatively...flat

  • @ReinnResauq Winblows XD

  • @ReinnResauq You have never even touched the power of linux. You are in the herd of uncreative, lazy and rich-snob people. Have you ever tried networking in linux? ever tried the workstation capabilities? ever tried scripting or programming? ever tried to configure for all those uses u mentioned above? You are getting all these for free, don't be so mean. Who cares Games? you can do that too in linux with "Wine" but I hate to be waste my life on Games.

  • @pravicpu I'm not a programmer, my network needs are simple, and of what use are workstation capabilities to a consumer? At a higher level, every OS has its benefits. At the consumer level, no one has articulated how linux does anything better than OSX. If you want to be a little computer geek, great for you, but for the rest of us computers are tools for communication, creation, and consumption. Nothing I've read on Linux has made me say 'Wow, I'm putting that on my computer!'

  • @ReinnResauq Linux is becoming much simpler in all the tasks you said. But making things too much simple takes away the configuration options. I feel my hands tied when I use Windows or OSX, there is no way to do things the way I want.

  • @pravicpu Fair enough, linux does what you want. But I didn't exactly bring up "What does Linux do that a Linux user wants it to do?" I asked what's in it for *me.* You don't have an answer and don't seem particularly interested in getting that OS adopted anyway. I can respect that. But it does mean you have nothing to contribute to this conversation.

  • @ReinnResauq

To me it seems you have already have two operating systems and either one works fine for the things you mentioned you would have no reason for a third. Though there are advantages such as configurability or security chances are you wouldn't see much benefit. That said, I'd probably say the same thing when comparing your OS's to older counterparts (E.g. aside from a "prettier" interface, there aren't necessarily a lot of easily visible advantages from 7 to XP or 10.6 to 10.5).

  • Die already Linux

  • People don't like Linux 'cause it can't run games COME ON PEOPLE, GROW UP, Linux will always be superior than Windows cause its a Unix-like OS, fuk windows and mac users, Linux rules >:)

  • @91jmda ah ,but it can run games >:D well tricks windows games into working on linux. I'm playing starcraft 2 right now on a linux, and it runs great

  • why do we need so many OS? Cant we just use all one OS and be happy ?

    Please!...

  • @warkarma Because some of us have free will.

  • @warkarma Because odds are the 'one OS' would suck.

  • i use linux mint its the best one!

i always used windows vista but vista sucks king kong balls so i rolled to linux ubuntu...but ubuntu was too buggy..... and then i discovered mint linux. its goood system i recommend for noobs...

  • @TheCacashinha | Only problem is, most Mint editions are based on Ubuntu, so eventually they'll probably glitch a bit as well. But yeah, it is indeed a good system for beginners. I'd recommend the Mint Debian Edition.

  • Cool! Linux rules! I am thinking, that was Ubuntu Linux with Compiz Fusion in body of girl...

  • WTF?

  • @RetroShinigami : I don't need a life... I have Linux ! xD

  • i use pc and mac.

  • Hawt!!

  • @xxxBradTxxx a third of the population does not use JUST windows Dumbass

  • Personally i would much rather use MAC OS and Linux over windows but thats just an opinion :D

  • this linux girl is must be stable version :)

  • i didnt even know linux existed before this.

  • @RetroShinigami

I still say PC wins over Mac though.

  • linux fails. mac ftw

  • @OlympusFilms1

    fuck mac. you Mac cocksucker

  • @PATRIOT7ME youtube support might solve this. and why is mac not as good as pc? or linux?

  • @OlympusFilms1 Mac IS depending on the application used. Windows, Linux and Mac seem to all focus on certain things and each OS has it's audience. as for me it be Linux.

  • @OlympusFilms1

You have a mistake there (or i have, correct me if im wrong).

    Linux = PC

    Mac = Only apple

    PC = Suse, Linux, Windows,...

Mac is easy, but doesnt give you alot of freedom. Mac is actualy good if your realy bad with computers. Or if you develop music.

  • @OlympusFilms1

LOL, mac is just linux, but then with better graphics, and more limitations in order to make it easyer :p

  • Comment removed

  • @xxxBradTxxx 30 million idiot. Learn to listen and comprehend.

  • @kilkun don't insult my dyslexia

  • @kilkun Technically that's still less than the current population of Canada. That said, this video is now a few years old.

  • @xxxBradTxxx Yeah, even though she said thirty MILLION, dumbass

  • "Hi, I'm linux, and I'm an ugly representation of it."

  • Lol, these ads are hilarious. "how long have you been standing there" - long before you both came :D

  • @aytech03 It'd be funnier if she called Mac her retarded cousin.

Yup that's right Mac you are derived from Unix.

  • @anarimus lol, +1.

  • Comment removed

  • linux is so good that other companys make ads for it. an d there is an ad from ibm, too.

  • Linux= Gay wads that cant make good operating systems

MAC= Will never be good, no matter how versions of the ipod they make

PC/Windows= Is the best the first and the always will be the best.

  • @yozo67 nice trolling

  • @yozo67 hmm ya know youtube is hosted on linux servers you really have no idea what you are talking about everything uses linux for servers its the best!

no hard feelings windows fanboy but I tried to use windows server 2008 on my servers and it couldn't run ruby on rails as fast as Ubuntu can, nor can it handle such workloads they would crash it in seconds and I am not willing to try that out I don't want to have to tell my users why it crashed :P

  • @randomsrvapps Well try a good Windows version as in Windows xp, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. Thats why they made them.

  • @yozo67 Why would you expect a consumer release of the OS to work better than a server release on a server? Server 2008 is based on Vista.

  • @yozo67 I have used windows since 5 years old to about 10 years old then I met Xandros, and used it instead of XP then at about 13 years old I tried fedora I liked it but it didn't offer codec's for music and video, the same year I tried ubuntu it changed my life but I still had to dual boot vista to sync my iphone which sucks, and I tried windows 7 I got it for free and tested the beta's before the release I like windows 7 but It still isn't my style I still have to sync using vmware :(

  • MAC= Retards

    Linux= Geeks

    PC= All the rest

    you chose!

  • @aoxilus : Commune misconception... guess you are definitely not wiser then the "rest"

  • @kosoricluka definitely you are a mac user :)

  • @RetroShinigami It's a compatibility layer as opposed to a traditional emulator. It somewhat depends on your definition of what an "emulator" is. Because it is merely a compatibility layer it can yield far greater performance even if program compatibility is reduced.

  • @RetroShinigami from wiki: Its meaning later shifted to the recursive backronym, Wine Is Not an Emulator. heres the source: groups(DOT)google(DOT)com/group/comp.os.linux.misc/msg/eb77fac360ad4a52?dmode=source&pli=1

  • @RetroShinigami WINE= Wine Is Not An Emulator

    You FAIL

  • mac is #1 linux is #2 and pc is #3

  • Linux is an awful OS, Windows is superior. Hell, even Mac OS X has better support and compability than linux.

  • my linux is ready

  • linux sucks never heard of it.
