Dude, u need 2 be more specific with ur times etc. I poured it out when it was 'brown' and it ended up not working as it was too soft - more like the worst toffee you can imagine. A tip for others: don't pour it out too early or it won't work properly :/
@arkay85 Sorry dude you have my most humble applogies, problem with doing fudge is you cant really give perfect times, thats because everyones hob/oven is different and everyones pot/pan is a different size and diffrent metal compounds thats why you have to do it by feel and look, it did take me two times to get it right and now im fine every time, keep at it youll get it, if your taking it to seriously your not haveing fun and then there is no point, happy cooking!
I have been trying to make tablet for years with my auntie's recipe. I have always been close but not quite there. Your "how to" has really helped. Mine turned out a bit grainy, maybe needed to cook it longer. Will try next time. Yes, it does burn, I got a splash and it really hurts! I live in Australia from Scottish decent. I have mastered shortbread and am very close with the tablet. Thanks for your help!
Success!! its in the fridge as I type.....Here is another way of making it you can try out if you want....its half a block of butter....1 mug of milk...1kg sugar bung it all in and slowly cook it till it thickens for approz half an hour
I have been making tablet for a while now,and it used to come out great when I had a gas cooker, but since my gas cooker broke I used an electric cooker and ever since my tablet has not worked ive either had it up to high a heat or to low a heat and cant get it right soooooo annoying, plus my recipe was a bit different to your one...so today ive bought the ingredients to your video and im now going to have a stab at making it this way,and if it doesnt turn out right im going to shoot myself!!
my grandad was scottish and he made it lots, i remember eating it as a kid and when my grandad died my nan and mum carried on and its great, love being of scottish blood :D so many yummy foods. thanks for posting this. please to the people who watch this, please keep to this recipie and not add "additions" to it, its traditional for a reason :D
I love tablet - good demo 'cos it is a bugger to get right. Electric whisk does speed up the process. Try a couple of spoonfulls of black treacle in it too.!!
Fantastic! My Nanny and my Mom made that when I was a wee girl. You are right there aren't many places that you can find a demo of how to make Traditional Scottish Tablet! Thank you! You did a great job of making it! :)
@weeknightingale, Ah thanks very much me dear, thats very kind of you, I never thought it would work so well, I just had a few old notes from my nans cook book, but it turned out nice. :)
@matthewrobb123 ..............dude come on you were so close, but ummm yea you really gonna need that butter other wise you just got a pan of really hot suger, hey dont knock it some people love suger, but were after tablet here dude stay alert next time you get that butter in!
it doesnt need to be super thick but the colour must be a medium brown it does take a while to get there and just keep stiring all the time, It took me 2 attempts to get it to look and taste just right but youll just know when its right, have fun eating it.

@smoka46 I have a tip for electric cookers.
The problem is when you turn down the heat you need it to go down right away. Electric will cool slower.
While you cook at high temp have another hob at a low heat and instead of turning down just switch burners.
Also. Add a little more milk and sugar wont burn too fast. Just cook longer at lower heat.
