I saw this concert on TV with my mother in law and her sister and all 3 of us fell in love with this song. I love this song, so pure, so crafty and deep. Hats off to all to all 3 of you. And this is coming from a Heavy Metal fan. Just a beautiful song.................Amazing.
This song is exquisite...and the story of how it came to be written is wonderful. Rosanne is an extraordinary woman, and one of the most gifted songwriters of our time.
This episode of this show is a major event in TV history. For me this is like the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I've never been riveted to the TV for an entire hour before. I watch all the time waiting for something like this to happen again.
@NJIronMom nope, they wrote the song together, and as polite people nobody put that song on their album, cos all of them wanted to. Rosanne wrote the beginning considering her divorce, and Elvis and Kris was master his album in her father studio....
This collaborative effort is nothing short of magical. These lyrics are the voice of humanity circa 2009 and represent the global consciousness looking into a mirror. The universe is speaking to us in this song. These inspired lyrics are life altering. I would willingly give up one of my five senses to be able to write a song like this. I've listened to it repeatedly last night on Spectacle & today on youtube and it continues to wrap itself around me, capture my soul and cause me to weep.
Lol im back listening to it again. Exmonkey, the 3 of them wrote it on April 5th. they couldnt come up with a name, so named it april 5th on april 5th... Original.
FablesandReflections, I'm so with you on this song. Not only did it knock my socks off, but I cried like a baby. I sat there, breathless with anticipation waiting for Kristofferson to sing his lines. Am not ashamed to say that the tears began to well up before he opened his mouth to sing. His music can make my heart sing for joy or cut me to the quick with his eloquence. His music speaks volumes about the man. Kristofferson is brillance at it's best.
The Verse is just, G-D-E, then the wee bit every second time is a C chord, up two frets then Too C, the chorus im not too sure, but it starts with C then goes to either G or E, its really not hard to learn, just sounds Really good. If you dont understand that i'll write it out and send it to you.
Read somewhere that "Free will" would be the name of the song, but as it would remind us of that whale movie, it was changed for the date Roseanne started the lyrics (or recorded the song, not sure about it).
Roseanne Cash started the song, writing the first verses, then send them to Costello and Kristofferson. Both collaborated with the rest of this amazing song.
Thank you for your music.

dazzer579 2 years ago
@dazzer579:
Learn to take them out yourself ;) You learn alot about songwriting and it's good training :)
Here's the chords anyway :)
Capo 3th fret:
Verse: Variation of G-D-Em.
Ref: Variations of C-G-Em-D-C and so on. The rest i haven't bothered doing. And it's most improv :) GL

by any chance does anyone know the name of the song Elvis sang on the James Taylor episode that just passed ?
It was near the beginning of the show...
I didn't get the name, but some of the words he sang were 'Four Walls'
It'd mean a lot to me..
many thanks
ImNotSpielberg 2 years ago
Bartender Blues, I believe. Written by Taylor but sung by host of people including George Jones I believe.

It's like going to the Church of real music. Simply perfection, real spirit, sounds like breathing...Thank Heavens for these artists.
Why don't they just get together (like THAT) and release an album?
WOW.
Thanks for cheerin up an old guy at work.
