Actually the Catholic Church condemned this movie as being immoral. Censors during that time did not have a code rating but it was soon to come.

This film is just soooo mischievously sexy! I can't believe it actually got past the censors back in 1956 despite the Legion of Decency and Cardinal Spellman denouncing it so fiercely.

I think it retains all its power. Carroll Baker is perfect as the titular Lolita, Karl Malden is faultless as the jealous husband and Jesus, Eli Wallach, of all people, is just so blazingly hot and dangerously sexy it's unbelievable how they never used him in this way again.
