That's sugar and potassium nitrate. I heat it up to lower it's viscosity so it's pourable. I believe that's the "liquid" you're referring to. After a few hours it hardens into a flexible solid.
Great idea Dan and the video is indeed much more interesting than the pages. As for the flight, both rockets flew straight up with great lift off speeds. Again, excellentt job and keep it up!

You need an FAA waiver to launch anything over 1500 grams total lift-off weight, or containing more than 125 grams of propellant.
