They themselves think season 2 wasn't as good because they had less time to develop the series and had used up all of their material. Season 2 still has very good quality songs/episodes , just not friends and others.

I never thought the second series sucked, but I didn't think it was very good. After watching it in full again, I was wrong. It's still not AS good as the first series, but it's still fucking hilarious and the songs are mostly all brilliant too. I really like the second season also, many of the song parodies are among my favorites. At the time I was reading and hearing about how the second season and songs were inferior because they used up their ideas and songs in the first season. Glad they did the second season.

The second season is way better. I love both but the writing and storylines are so much more incredibly tight and focused. The songs from the second season were all written in a short time span as opposed to the first season (which they built a career on) but they're still solid.
