  • I'm in a LONE STAR STATE OF MIND too. Spent 8 years in North Dallas. Lived in "The Colony", loved the lifestyle and made some great friends!

Miss just about everything from my time there.

  • I just heard this song for the very first time yesterday on a mexican radio station!!!!

Now i cant get it out of my mind!!!!!!

    Great song-awesome voice!!!!!!!!...............LOVE IT!!!

  • Lorrie Morgan's version is MUCH better. Okay it was done in the early 1990's and

she did have the lousy haircut but her voice is better than Nanci's on this song.

  • Having lived in southeast and west Texas, and having special memories there: I'm in a Lone Star State of Mind. I love Nanci and I love Texas.

  • Just adore this song! Like a lot of Nanci's work, it has a wistful quality about it.

And having been to Corpus Christi in Texas, I can confirm it IS both hot and humid!!

  • This would fit right in with Crazy Heart. Go ahead. Say something nice about Texas.

  • This is why Texas is better than any other state.

    No one even comes close

  • there is another cover of this song by a bloke but cant remember his name or find the video anywhere but i must say i think its a little better than this version but still great song and nanci has a beautiful voice

  • @moonie567 You're probably thinking of Don Wiliams. I just listened to that version... I think I still like Nanci's better, though. (As much as I love Don Williams)

    :)

  • @moonie567 I thing Robert Earl Keen Did a cover but I'm not sure

  • this song is one of the best!!!!!

  • Nanci I was in love with you back in the 1980s!

  • I'm remember this song...... Like it back then..... love it now!!!

  • Love this Griffith song.

  • I just saw John Wayne one the late late show

save the girl and ride away

and I was hoping as the credits roll

He'd make it back to her some day.

    Fantastic!

  • reading your comments, particularly southngirl 59 reminded me of the fulfilment of a life longb ambition which was to drive a pick up truck on a US highway while listening to country music on the radio. Well in 98 I did just that, and drove from Houston to San Antonio and this song came on the Radio. Man, I was in Heaven and my life long thanks to Butch and Glenn for the experience,

    Kev in the UK

  • Great tune!

  • Oh Steve Major!!

  • sometimes a country singer, and a country song, comes along and lifts you body and soul. Nancy is such a singer, and this is such a wonderful song. It does it for me. Ray

  • you got that right.

  • theres a beaytiful purity to nanci's music. speaks to people no matter where they're from. she is loved here in ireland

  • Always loved seeing her at Anderson Fair, Houston, (OMG) years ago! Lyle Lovett was there one night too :)

  • i got to know lyle lovett through nanci i thank her so much xxx

  • I am from brooklyn and have been a fan of nancys since 1990. My point- it doesnt matter where you are from...an open heart will always hear poetry clearly....good poetry can open a deaf heart...nancy opened mine all those years ago....anytime im wanting to shutdown i listen to nancy and im clear again.....has anyone seen a video for "Sing one for Sister"

  • merci beaucoup

  • I saw her on Austin City Limits and I was hooked!

  • I used to be in love with Nancy G. and her music ... listened to the radio all the time hoping to hear a new one. Oh, those were the days.

  • I have always adored this song...and now that I AM in Denver...I will always be in a Lone Star State Of Mind.

  • Born and bred from Seguin Texas ,,she is remarkable..great singer and guitar picker..and she is Texas pretty...

  • Have loved Nancy for years. She's the Austin sound to a "T"! 6th & Congress

  • This is an awesome song! Thank You for uploading this one! I use to run down to Texas on a regular basis back in the late 80's erly 90's,...At times,...I sure do miss being down there! Wheather it's El Paso or Brownsville & or everywhere in between!

I do have a lone star state of mind! "grin"

    Oh the memories!

  • No matter if I'm in the U.S. or some other part of the world serving our Country, everytime I hear this song...... It always bring me back home toTexas. I can smell those early morning and simple time in my life.

    Simper Fi!

  • Texas is like heaven and hell. Here you have Nanci and then there's the horrible Bush family. I'll never figure it out.

  • Strange how some people can't listen to a great artist like Nanci without trying to put their personal slant on it. Sick, get help.

  • Strange how some people can't read something without putting their dumb personal slant on it. Stupid, educate yourself.

  • It's precisely when you really "educate yourself" that you realize just how destructive a 'president' George Bush was.

  • One of Nanci's best songs, I think, and a tribute to the Texas that she loves. She is, at the same time, a thoughtful advocate for Vietnam Vets, an activist to abolish landmine use, and supports other progressive causes for peace and social justice.

  • get over it the bushes sure beat the hel out of what you have now. change you can do without!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah Ok Chuckie, now get yerself over to Big D and shine Dubyas shoes.

  • This song takes me so far back...Hot and humid Texas nights....I've got all night to remember you...

  • The smell of Mesquite burning as you grill steak, Fajitas and Brisket. Ice cold beer and home country music. What else could we ask for.....

    (All night to remember)

  • I just rocked out so hard to this song, no joke. My mom always used to listen to Nanci Griffith when I was reallly little and I didnt really like it. Looking back, my parents seem to have a great taste in music. This is pure talent.

  • great thanks for sharing

  • Love it!

  • TEXAN!!!

  • Texan to the max

  • i was also in the corps and this song would bring me back to edinburg,tx. in a second.
