I don't know about all of the members of this group, but Ward Kimball and Frank Thomas were animators for Walt Disney Studios and part of the original "Nine Old Men". Harper Goff was also an employee of Walt Disney and worked on many concept art projects both for film and for the theme parks. Harper Goff died in 1993, while Ward Kimball passed away in 2002 and Frank Thomas in 2004.
I learned how to crawl on my mother's precious Firehouse 5 + 2 78 RPMs, so hearing this again after all these years is really special for me ~~ especially since yours doesn't have all those scratches!
Yeah, go figure. What else can you do on YouTube than post a video of the record going round and round. Lots of folks looking here were born after 1985 and a record going round and round is a novelty. And its fun. CDB
I used to have the 78 of that song, but I lost it a long time ago. This is a great song, but I haven't heard it in years. The Firehouse Five Plus Two was a successful group for its time featuring Ward Kimball, one of Disney's original "Nine Old Men" was on trombone and Frank Thomas on Piano. They made great animation for Walt's studios over the years before they formed their own group and started their own label Good Time Jazz. This was considered a Disney band, one of their earliest.

Walt Kelly was a good friend of Ward Kimball. He seems to be largely forgotten or neglected today ...

I prefer the clarinet on FHF+2 Going to a Fire album version but good just the same.

The "Firehouse Five Plus Two"'s specialty was Dixieland jazz, pure and simple.

This could be called Frisco jazz (San Francisco), born after WWII. Check out Lu Watters, Bob Scobey, and later Kid Ory music.

Also West Coast jazz...

Thank you for posting! This style is inspiring a song of mine on my next album and it was great to be able to listen to it.

"firehouse stomp" isn't really a jazz number. the original of it is a march ("uner the double eagle")... so i wonder for your inspired version:)

Dont forget Harper Goff, Mr 20,000 Leagues, who played in the band also.
