Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 Review

Why did you sell it for the 70-200. Im tossing up between the 70-200 n this, what do you think.

@TehHelpStation I didn't sell this lens, I still have it and I still love it. I sold the 70-200 because I never used it. I can't really help you on your decision as both lenses serve completely different purposes. I think the 11-16 is a lot more interesting to use as the 70-200 is "just" a telephoto lens.

uh the sigma focuses faster it just collects light slower... AF speed doesn't go by how fast ti is at collecting light.

Just a quick question:

do you think its worth getting the tokina over the sigma? i can get it for about $600 in canada, but the sigma i can get for $450...is the f2.8 max aperture worth it?

in my opinion: yes

i often do concert photography and pretty much every shot would be impossible having an f/4 aperture because of the exposure

According to tests the tokina has th ebetter image quality as long as there are no harsh contrasts

i found the tokina to be very sharp even at the puter edges

i am not asking if it fits, just the overall quality of it. some people said that when the drop the lens to a soft mat, the cap gets broken...so they are saying the built quality is not good, and recommend to get a cap from Nikon. what about the HOOD? it is so small. DOES A 70-200mm f/2.8 HOOD fits on this one you think?

Sorry i did not read it well enough. As i said, i you are the first person who tells me the cap was bad. I think the cap has a very good quality. I don't know nikon caps, maybe they are better but this one will do the job.

I'm not sure if a 70-200 hood even fits on this lens, but it would be pointless since this is an ultra wide angle lens.

It can get vignetting from a big filter, the hood would block the biggest part of the image, thus: no

@beautyiseternal you wouldn't want to put a hood from the 70-200 lens on this particular application. The wide angle lens will pick up the side of the much narrower (view) 70-200's hood.

is the lens cap good on this one? i heard its TERRIBLE, and people recommend to get a Nikon lens cap over it. buddy, does a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 hood fits on this one? if so i like to replace the one that comes with this one, as it doesn't look nice. this one is just ordered, coming in the mail soon.

not so clear on the focusing speed part, are you saying that this lens is faster or slower than sigma 10-20?

I'm not sure, The Lens is faster but it does not have HSM

But Fokussing speed is not that important for uwa lenses since dof is pretty big anyway

focussing range goes from 0.3m to 2m and the next stop already is infinity

umm fyi ultra wide angle lens dont have to have that fast of an auto focus on account of 70% of them are used for landscape and the other percent is used for portraits wide angles a not used often in sports photography when the fast auto focus is a must
