  • In case if anyone didn't know

80db is 10 times louder than 70 db.

Or 100 db is 1000x louder than 10 db

  • @iLoveLampXx Uh no that's wrong. 10dB gain is perceived as double the amplitude. So , 80dB sounds twice as loud as 70dB. 100dB sounds like 20X louder than 10dB.

  • @gahman Nope. A gain of 10dB would represent a ratio of ten to one for power, so 10 dB be 10 times the power, therefore a 40dB gain would be 10,000 times the power.

    Learn2Physics.

  • My ions bubbled after 4 months of playing them, so I'm buying Goodwoods

  • U have a shitload of drum sets.

  • Huh... are RB1/RB2 pads directly interchangeable? I've got an extra RB1 kit and four spare RB2 pads.

  • @GTTeancum They are indeed!

  • Were do you get the stealthwood heads?

  • sweet I have those same sticks

  • Actually, The Pdx-8 can be adjusted to a quieter pad. I got about 63db when i adjusted it.

  • Probably so, but I was just doing an "out of the box" comparison here, no mods or retuning.

  • Oh Well.

  • @trypwned wow how the hell did you do that make a video of it or something my pdx 8 is still around 75 db

  • I love my ions, but it's mostly the thick rubber for rebound that gives them such a loud sound.

But compared to my stock kit with all the rubber padding torn off they're amazing.

  • @fallawaytoyou Weird... Ions are a little bit loud because the rubber is thick. Stock kits are loud because the rubber is thin.

  • Does ur goodwoods still work and if u wanna sell them to me how much? :)

  • hey what do u think is better? goodwoodmods or metal workz mesh heads?

  • I couldn't say, I've never played on the Metal Workz pads.

  • How much for your goodwoods? hahaha.

  • @FigherOfFoo284 I sold them to MarkMadness a while ago :-P

  • metal workz mesh heads. Quade92 had to send his back bc of problems

  • @MichaelY3524 goodwoods

  • i dunno maybe i should buy goodwoodmods cauz the rebound is alot better they're quiet and they cost half the price on ions

  • @MrDanTheDrummer123 they have a shorter life than ions at about 7-8 months

  • I dunno about that, I've had my goodwoods for over a year. I just placed duct tape over the center of the pads. It makes them louder but greatly increases their life span.

  • Where is the rebound comparison?

  • 1. Goodwoods

    2. Roland PDX-8 mesh head pads

    3. Ion pads

    4. RB2 Pads

    5. RB1 Pads

  • Do you know what decibel level sound the GH:WT kit makes?

  • Nope, I've never owned one.

  • @Elaxproductions I can tell you that it actually feels quite a lot like the rb2 kit, rebound/sound wise.. but I hate the way the cymbals feel and sound.

  • At least no one can say you ignore your fans:

    you sure as hell don't!

    Keep it up man.

  • Man you answer every stupid question people ask....

    Hah.

  • Almost ;)

  • Which would you prefer? GoodWoods or IONs? Do all of the GoodWood pads feel like the PDX-8?

  • No, they don't feel anything like the PDX-8. Clearly I prefer the Ions, as all of my latest videos have used them. :)

  • wtf is that song in the intro

  • It says the name of it right on the title screen...

  • Anyone who says that ION pads are quiet is completely wrong, they just don't make as annoying a sound as the stock sets. GoodWoods are amazingly quiet.

  • do the ions come with battaries?

  • Why would they come with batteries? It's not a wireless kit. It doesn't need batteries.

  • my bad i dont have them so i didnt know

  • I own them both too, and you're dead wrong.

  • Actually the pdx-8 bad isnt pretty loud. I have the pdx and if you loosen it it will be VERY Sensitive and Quiet. Quieter then The Good Woods Actually. If You TIGHTEN the Pdx It will be ULTRA sensitive and Loud

  • the ions are more sensitive then the goodwoods and the ions are better cuz u can move them around to how ever u what

  • o.o Now I know I want the goodwoods instead of the Ion. I play fine on my rb2 stock kit and my friend has ions. I suck on playing on that thing. I hit everything BUT the pads xD and I don't have that much money so Goodwoods for me! =D

  • Just sold my PSP on ebay and im using the money to buy goodwoods, wooh!

  • Put them back in the BASEMENT!!!! I WANT THEM !!!!

    You must be loaded.

  • How tall are u?

  • 6'1"

  • men please tell me tell me were u got the ions with the roland snare pleasseeee

    thanks you !

  • They didn't come together. The Ions came from Amazon, and the Roland snare from Musician's Friend.

  • oo thanks man big fan of ures !

  • you should compare the xcell pads they are probably the quietest of them all maybe close to 60 decibles.

  • No. In case you didn't notice, I didn't compare any silencer pads. Only compared drums the way they come right out of the box.

  • oh ok whatever then.

  • No, the GoodWoods are quieter than the XCell pads.

  • 0:47

My GWM set!! haha, still using it man, thanks a lot for doing that for me.

just thought i'd leave a comment to let you know i haven't forgotten about who provided me with months of drumming (and still going), and i'm still very thankful for it.

  • ur snare sounds like a cowbell

  • i dont see the point of this video, i thought it was a comparison of the sound when you play it or something

  • That exactly what it is.

  • Ever gonna do that Rebound Video?

  • probably not

  • why not

  • can you use a roland snare with the ION drum module or do you have a roland brain going MIDI out or something.

  • The Roland snare is plugged directly into the Ion module. I have another video showing exactly that.

  • thats pretty cool, i was woundering before i got any roland or any electric drum stuff for that matter to see if it would work with my drum rocker, i wanna know if rolands double bass works with it

  • If you mean the Roland KD-8 kick trigger, it will not work with the Ions by itself. You need a Kickbox for that. Look through my other videos, I have one explaining that too.

  • thanks

  • i hate you spoilt ass haHAHA lol

  • They r practically the same, but on price, which is really, the only diff, i would go the GoodWoods.

  • spoiled much

JK :) dude i wish i had all those all i have is the ions only with destroyer . but they're great

  • wow i cant believe i didnt realise that im so dumb

  • Goodwoods totally win in rebound, accuracy and by far the price. Ions are more realistic and have a modifiable playability if you can say it that way.

  • my good woods came broken, sent them in broken, and got them back broken.

    DO NOT BUY THE GOODWOODS!

  • Comment removed

  • I would their accuracy is about the same.. Goodwoods have better rebound and price

Ions are more durable and you can move the pads..

  • @HenryXCIV A lot of Goodwoods have issues with dropping notes. Ions are more reliable. They're louder and don't have quite as much rebound, but those can both be fixed.

  • @cargodudeMT I own 2 sets of goodwoods and play regularly on 4 at various friend's houses. The goodwoods definitely do not drop notes and they are way more reliable than ions. Mesh = win. Oh and I also own ions (with a set of goodwoods on it.

  • @bladezero25 It largely depends on the kit that they're put on. So I guess it's Harmonix's kit, not GWM pads.

  • @HenryXCIV ions easy assembly. good woods not easy. but i would still get good woods

  • ions i have both but prefer the ions for rebound more realistic feel with cymbals a bigger kit bigger pads COMPLETELY customizable and never will break on you

  • i like Roland the best

  • I want the ronland drum set really bad

  • i wanna do what u did take the rock band 2 pads and put it on the the rock band 1 drums

  • don't they don't work right. they only trigger about once every 3 hits.

  • No, the RB2 pads trigger just fine on an RB1 kit.

  • not in my experience

  • It all very likely depends on which manufacturing plant they came from (EL / SL / QL stuff) between both the RB2 kit heads and the RB1 kit body.

They really didn't make things easy having the stuff come from so many different places. c_c

  • ahhh goodwoods soon. won't ever have to worry about this ever again

  • ion has more decibels than the rock band 2 stock kit but is a lower pitched more dull sound so its not as annoying as the rock band 2 kit

  • why do people care sooooooo much about noise comparison

this was a good video but some people act like its going to make a difference in electric drums

real drum sets r soooooo loud i cant hear myslef scream!

so if people can get use to real drums they can get use to the loudness of an electric drum

  • You're so right. Comparing the noise of a real drum kit to a electronic set is exactly the same.

    That was sarcasm,

With an electronic kit (or kits of games) the drums do not make the drum noises, they make pop, tok, and thump noises. Getting used to that is monumentally different than geting used to the blistering bomblike noise of a real kit. Plus, having a loud kit is fine and dandy if you live alone in your very own home, no apartment.

  • great vid. I hope this will convince my mom to get one for me. We live in an apartment....-.-

  • Damn man! you are loaded! how did you afford all that stuff?

  • was the roland pdx-8 a mesh head pad?

  • Google it? Yes, it is.

  • i can has goodwoods Lol i wish

  • rich man............ lol =)

  • he keeps $80 rock band drum sets in the basement!!!!

  • Helpful video, man. Thanks.

  • You didn't hit the gel pad on the rock band 2 pads. You hit above them. You hit the center of the stealth. 75 for the rock band 2 drums is therefore most likely wrong.

  • It only looks that way due to the angle of the camera. I was hitting them in the center.

  • you didnt do the cymbals on the ion kit =(.. i have the ion kit too, i was curious how many db the cymbals were compared to the ion pads, i am pretty sure they are louder then the pads themselves

do you know the db of the ion cymbals and the pintech cymbal?

  • I don't know precisely, but you're right that the Ion cymbals are louder than the pads.

  • wow u must be rich to afford all of those kits. thanks for the vid it helped me a lot to choose which model to buy

  • wow.he is a grown man.he doesn't have 2 be rich 2 afford a couple of drum kits

  • ok...

  • and he got the rb2 kit for free with HMX play testing so theres 100 bucks saved

  • ya...lucky

  • which drum set do you use the most.

i cant find goodwoods, cause there sites down, and i really want some, im guesing you use th ions, since you have the roland attached, so are you selling your ions?

  • GoodWood's site will be back up in April. I use the Ions, have already sold my goodwoods.

  • oh alright thanks.

    thats perfect actually.

cause i broke my wrist and it wont be off until the end of march.

    thanks dude.

  • the goodwoods are so awesome looking

  • I HATE those sticks. Gave me the worst blisters.

  • Me too. I ended up rolling the rubber off.

  • Azuritereaction already has a video up on how to do the sock thing. There's no need for me to make another one.

  • yes, they are. I have a sock mod on my kit(same as yours) but I pull up the pads and put socks inside the pad. It works great. If you have any more questions, just pm me

  • wow the rolands are louder than the good woods!

  • is that the rrod red ring of death

  • wut?

  • how did u put the rock band 2 pads on the rock band 1 drumset?

  • Didn't have to do anything special, they just pop right on there.

  • yeah i know that but how do i connect everything so that they will actually work?

  • They plug into the base just like the RB1 pads do.

  • how do i unplug the pads without breaking them?

  • Um...very carefully?

  • are the good wood pads useful?can you get a nice rebound?does it make less noise?

  • Uh, did you actually watch the video?

  • what are you actually trying to achieve this is quite pointless tbh

  • Glad you feel that way, thanks for sharing.

  • David, would you recommend the GWM or Ion set for rebound?

  • Nevermind. I didn't read the comment below.

  • I'll be filming a separate rebound video soon. :)

  • While I agree that there is a definite difference in tonality between the 4 kits, this comparison would really need to be done where the drumstick hits the drum head at the same velocity on each head. From the video it would *appear* that the RB1, RB2 drum heads are being hit substantially harder than is the goodwood mods heads. The Ion kit seems about the same but produces a deeper more hollow thump, Im not sure which would be more annoying, the RB Tick or the Ion Thump.

  • the ion thump is not annoying at all.when i play i actually like the sound after playing a rb1 kit

  • I'm forced to agree, after now playing the Ions for a couple weeks, the thump noise isn't really annoying at all, and at times actually goes quite well with playing drums.

  • where do u get goodwood at lol

  • This is a VERY good example for why to get the GoodWoodMods Mesh Heads, or atleast for noise level wise.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Dude I would definatly buy your goodwoods lol. But would you perfer good woods or ions? I'm thinking ions but most people perfer good woods? so idk.

  • That question is easily answered by the fact that I haven't posted a GoodWoods vid since I got my Ions. :)

  • Really interesting. I've always found the RB2 kit to be far quieter then RB1. Turns out the difference was smaller then I thought.

  • lol @ 360 degree Neil Peart kit

  • I have just ordered a PDX-8 but looking at this sound test i am beginning to wonder if it was worth all the money...do you think it's worth it? i mean, its the same volume as the rock band 2 pads!!

  • It's definitely worth it. Sound is much more than just decibel levels :)

  • your right, i have just been playing on it and the rebound is great and it feels much more authentic!!

  • its a REALLY high quality pad. it's a bit pricey, but i got a good deal from thomman and now i have a big smile on my face =]

  • My question for you would be, out of the rock band 1 and 2 kits since they are the most affordable, which ones are better in sensitivity?

  • Definitely the RB2 drums for that.

  • shek I'll buy your goodwoods off you since you use the ion kit :p mine are taking 4 weeks to come in!

  • Somebody else already bought them :)

  • The links to the waveforms no long work. I can see them fine on the video, but I thought I'd let you know

  • Thanks man. I had moved them to a different location and forgot to update the links. Should be all fixed now.

  • guitar hero drums pl0x?

  • I don't own them, nor do I have any desire to own them.

  • to quote Paddyroom,

    FUCKING OWNED

  • good for you yaaay (no sarcasm intended i like rockband better)

  • this is some nice technical shit right there!! great comparison ;)

  • can you make a reboung comparison video. I am really distraught over which set to get and the rebound and sensitivity is the most important

  • You will get the most rebound from the GoodWoods or Roland. All of the mesh pads have similar rebound, more than the Ion and Rock Band pads. But the Ion's rebound is very similar to a real drum head.

  • How do u afford all that? I can barley afford RB2 drums

  • Because he is an adult with a job

  • FUCKING OWNED

  • you should really be doing a pitch comparison too though. i much prefer the dull thud of the ION to the high pitched ting of the RB2 drums, no matter how much louder the ION is.

  • I absolutely agree. I didn't have a good way to measure pitch for this :)

  • Gd video!

  • can i buy ur goodwoods or rock band 2 kit off of u

  • Goodwoods are already sold, and my RB2 yellow pad is cracked, sorry.

  • Ordered GoodWoods set 2 weeks ago based on Cena's reviews, thanks for the reassurance!

BTW the last bit is funny, I have only one set and it's a pain having it sit in my room haha.

  • YOU HAVE SO MANY DRUMS!

lol it's kind of funny, i wish i had that much stuff... and interesting that rb1 pads are almost on par with a JACKHAMMER!

  • Oh, since you're going to stick the goodwoods back in the basement I'll take them :D

lol jk unless your feeling very generous ;)

  • If you are looking at the decibel comparison of the rb1 and a jack hammer. 80dB-100dB is a VERY big difference. The higher the number means that it is significantly louder. Decibels are pretty much a logarithm.

  • Oh, then nevermind.

I was surprised at how loud the Ions were. When I played on my friends it seemed like they were a lot quieter then his RB2 kit.
