@DynaDuctINC They never actually melt but they do tend to crack from the vibration and thermal cycling. If properly made they'll run for many hours without failure.

Yeah, I hate that! When you just want to experience something as realistically as possible, people feel the need to destroy it with music and talking. It's there to entertain the people who have no attention span... unfortunately, that is the majority of the population.

In this case, they applied stupid sound effects to stop the dumb people from getting confused when they didn't hear the typical jet sound. Ironically, the whole reason I clicked on this video was to hear the pulse jet...

Yeah, this was from a TV series called The Temuera Morrison Show (he's the actor who played in Once were Warriors, Speed 2 and was the clone in Star Wars). That's him driving. The producers figured that it didn't sound like a jet so they dubbed in a turbine sound. Sigh! The actual sound could be heard from over 4 miles away.

probably much lower than you'd think. its basically just a bent tube with no moving parts -- its completely open, and pulse jets have very low compression. it COULD happen i guess, but the huge flames are a greater risk than an explosion, so as you can see its built segmented as a fail safe, should something actually go wrong.

I'm now coating the inside of the chambers with a space-age ceramic (two layer-process) and it does reduce the temperature somewhat - but mainly it reduces the rate of erosion and cracking due to the high temps and very hi-speed gas flows.

The speedo we had on it (a bike speedo) only had two digits 00-99 and it wasn't enough so we don't actually know what the maximum speed we reached was. However, given enough distance, it should reach around 120mph or more. Not that fast really but it's very heavy, built from mild-steel box-section. It was really just a test-bed for the engines. The next one will be chrome-molly and *much* lighter with four *bigger* engines.
