@kenza333 before i knew this was why i started dropping calls i was on the phone with a friend and it dropped 3 times atleast every minute or less because i did not realise that u had to hold it differently or that i was even holding it "wrong". my phone is really sensitive to it i tried with my friends iphone 4 and his drops but slowly mine goes to 0 bars no 3g after holding for a matter of seconds. then goes to searching... which is no service at all...
i don't understand why people simply refuse to even acknowledge that there is a design flaw and resort to defenses such as "you're holding it too tight" and "it's att's problem, not apple's." i understand standing behind a company you love, but don't be ridiculous. why do we need to perform finger acrobatics to use a phone?
i'm a big fan of the prior generation of iphones, but it seems like this update was created more for fashion than utilization
With no bumper you may loose 20-24db of signal using the worst grip possible. Using a bumper, the loss will be much less but there WILL still be some loss since you are still interfering with the antenna. If your signal is low enough, you may still loose connection. The same effect can be seen on many phones including the Droids and 3GS. I hold my 4 without covering the bottom of the phone and have no problems.
My iPhone 4 drops in and out of service all the time regardless of how I hold it. My iPhone 3G had excellent reception. I don't understand how this could be fixed with a software update, but if that's the case, great. Get it done, Apple. Otherwise I agree with the Wizard, recall or return.
@Wizzard005 i agree my reception is rubish and i have the bumper and i try and hold it in away not covering where the seams stopping the antennas from touching are. recal them apple. or just sell them as ipod touch 4s because thats what they work like!
lol maybe thats your problem...AT&T. ahah works fine with my bumper...i thought it could be cuz your skin is touching the metal which is the antenna and could have something to do with it and the plastic from the bumper makes no difference...plus never know maybe sitting in somewhere makes a difference like in a basement. but for now im going to say AT&T cuz it sucks
Here's a solution don't waste your money on an iPhone buy a Samsung Galaxy S.

You didn't lose the connection with the bumper, so the problem IS solved.
mrelwood 1 year ago
Seriously the bumper does help. How often are you browsing the internet or on the phone while using the death grip? Full of crap.
mgmusicman94 1 year ago
uh... thats exactly how i and most people talk on the phone... your an idiot.
afterbirth83 1 year ago
@afterbirth83 Nobody holds their iphone in a tight death grip normally. people usually hold it lightly with their fingertips.

Hold different.
